I'm The Daughter Of Rage And Love, chapter 1
"Jen, come down for breakfast!" Kate yelled from the bottom of the stairs. "Coming mom!" I said as I ran down the stairs. "Is Nick awake?" I asked her, my voice lower. "No, he came home drunk last night, so he will be asleep for another hour or so." My mom answered my question. Nick was my step-dad. Every night he comes home drunk, and before he passes out on the couch, he slapped me or my mom, or even punches us. He gets himself drunk because he misses his ex-wife so much. He wakes up raged and he slaps and kicks the crap out of us. Some times if I'm lucky, he's to slow to catch me when I run. I slurped down my milk and cereal, raced outside to wait for the bus to pull up. As the bus pulled up at the bus stop, I got in and searched for Diane, my BFF. I found her and sat down next to her, and saw that she saw the bruises that covered both my eyes and a cut lip. She was the only one that knows what Nick does to me and my mom. "Um, like he got home drunk last night and uh..." "Your bruises tell the whole story, Jen. Your mom needs to get a divorce and a restraining order for both of you." Di interrupted. "I know, but, we are afraid, you know, he will still get us when we aren't in public." I said as the bus pulled up at school. "You can call the police. He can't keep doing this to you and your mother forever." Di said, walking up to her locker. "I know." I said as I stuffed my bag in my locker.
At lunch, me and Diane what we always do, talk about Nicole and her little posse. "She's a pain in the-" "Pain in the what?"
It was Nicole. "Nicole, just go get your posse and go change your mask, it's getting ugly." I replied. She just gave me a cold look and walked away. "Have you been working on that come back?" Di asked. "How could you tell?" I asked. "You looked like you were thinking too much when you said it." She replied. We started giggling our butts off.
After lunch, me and Di skipped the rest of the day and we hung out at her house. "Tell me Jen, who do you like?" Di asked, scarfing down a popsicle. "Have you ever seen Tre' Cool's kid, Frankito, I think his name is, anyways, he's hot!" I replied in a dreamy state. "Oh, well, I think Mike is hot!" Di replied and started acting as if she was making out with him. I just threw a pillow at her and we fell to the floor laughing. "Di, what can we do, I'm bored." I said 10 minutes after our laugh fest. "Yeah, I am too, howa 'bout we sneak back into school?" She asked, plopping on her bed. "Sure, Hold on, let me get my shoes on." I said, getting up and searching for my pair of converse. I found them and grabbed my hoodie, and me and Diane raced out of the door and started walking to school.
We snuck in threw the girls' bathroom window, and when we got to english class, the called me to the office. When I got there, the principle just got off the phone. "Jen, that was the hospital, they said your mother was hurt badly, and that she wanted to see you so, do you need a ride?" The principal asked. I shook my head yes, to scared to talk.
When we got there, I ran to my mom's room. "Hi, sweetie." My mom said. It looked like it hurt her even to talk. "Hi, mom." I said, my voice studdered. "What happened to you?" I asked as I examine her cuts and bruises. "It was Nick. He came home with a few six-packs, and drank them all, and then he started hitting me, and kicking me. I got to the neighbor's house and they called 911." My mom, said, trying to get comfortable without making anything hurt. "I don't want you staying with Nick, so I called your father." My mother said, trying to make it sound that she wasn't in pain. "My... D-dad?" I asked, shocked. My mom never told me about my real father. I heard a knock on the door, and the man came in. "Hey Kate, how do you feel?" The man asked her. I tried to get a good look at him and when I did, I thought to myself, Holy crap! That's Mike Dirnt! I passed out and I woke up at what felt like days. "You okay?" Mike asked, he seemed concerned. "Yeah, Mike, what are you doing here?" I asked, but my mom answered my question, "Honey, this is your father." She said with a happy smile. "My, father? But, how? Why?" I said, my breathing becoming heavy. "Sweetie, calm down, or your going to pass out again." He said. I just shook my head to concentrate and started counting in my head to calm my breathing. "Ok, Kate, I'm going to take her home now." Mike said, turning to my mom. "Okay, bye sweetie" My mom said hugging me and I kissed her on the cheek. "Bye Mom." I said as I walked out of the room.
As we got out of my dad's car, we walked in and a girl came up to Mike. "Hey Hero, this is your half sister, Jen. Jen, This is your half sister, Stella." Mike said, going into the kitchen to order pizza. "So, Stella, how do you feel about your dad being Mike Dirnt?" I asked plopping on the couch. "I don't know, I mean, sometimes are cool, but sometimes, I don't really see him like when he's on tour." She said, sitting next to me and grabbed the remote. "So, Jen, tell us about yourself." Mike said, sitting in a chair next to the couch. "Well, my mom married a drunk-ass, and when he comes home drunk, he kicks the crap out of my mom and me, and that's how my mom ended up in the hospital, I know a guitar, electric and bass, and a little drums. That's all the interesting stuff." I said, leaning back on the couch. Their was a knock on the door and Tre' and Billie Joe came in. "Howdy!" Tre' said, holding a six pack of beer. "And who is this fine lady?" Tre' said, as he set down the beer. "Guys, this is my half daughter, Jen, Jen this is the guys." My dad introduced each of us. "Dad, can you come to my house, and need my stuff, and my baby, and I think Nick is at work, so we should be safe." I asked him, standing up and stretching. "Sure, you guys going to stay here, or do you want to come along?" My dad answered and turned to the guys. "Nah, we'll stay here." Billie said. "Okay, then watch Stella for me, and Billie, watch Tre' while your at it." Dad said, grabbing his keys and coat. "Come on Kid-o." I followed him out to the car, and we got to the house and I looked around to see no Nick in sight. "Okay, It's safe, come on!" I said, motioning him in. I ran upstairs, grabbed a bag and filled if with clothes, and a tooth brush. I grabbed the case to my electric guitar. "What's that?" Mike asked me. What a stupid question. I thought to my self. "My baby." I answered, going past him and going down the stairs. "You ready?" He asked me as he got down the stairs. "Yup." I answered, turning toward the door. "Okay, come on!" We got in the car and drove towards my new home.
As we turned into the driveway, we saw Adie's car. "Adie must be here." Mike said, he went into the house, with me dragging my stuff behind him. I went in and took my stuff to my room. "Hey, you guys want some pizza or something?" Billie asked. "No, thanks." Me and my dad said in unison. "Okay, well, if you want some later, too bad." Tre' said, taking pizza and beer and a bottle of water in the family room. Me and my dad sat on the couch for a while, then there was a knock on the door, a stood up, and my dad answered it. "Umm, can I help you?" Mike asked. "Nick? What the crap are you doing here?!" I asked, shocked and scared.
What is he going to do now? I wondered to myself. "Getting you back. Ever since this guy came up and took you away, I've been mad, and I thought I was taking good care of you." He slurred. (He's always drunk! ) He pulled out a gun and his hand shook, he looked like he was losing his balance. "But, now, you will come back to me." He slurred, getting ready to press the trigger. I was scared what he would do next. He then pulled the trigger, and I fell to the ground. He missed my dad and shot me. The last thing I saw before I passed out, was Nick running out the door, and Adie, my dad, Billie and Tre' all around me, and everything went dark.
