A twist., chapter 1

Isn't it amazing how things turn out? One day you're a happy 17 year old guy, with parents that look like they could stay together forever, in a nice house in Oakland. Then one day, your mom divorces your dad, she moves somewhere in EUROPE and you, your brother, your dad, Mike Dirnt, and Tre cool, are moving to a small town in Minnesota for a year.

My dad thought after my mother left that he needed a break. Mike, and Tre needed one too, so they decided to rent a big OLD house in the middle of the SMALLEST town on earth. There are corn fields, and dirt roads. There is a small town with about 8 stores and the houses are about 3 blocks spaced off from each other. There big and old houses with gigantic back yards. And me and Jakob, were going to the one high school, 4 miles away from our house.

As I watched the horizon. The moving van left and we were alone in our new house, big enough for 12 people to live in comfortably. "Come on Joe, were going to go into town," my dad said.
I got into the car and, again watched the horizon. I was just contemplating the fact of how my mother could do something like this, a girl on a bike appeared next to our car. I first looked at the bike, it was a purple one, with lots of band stickers. Then I stared at the girl's legs. She had really pretty long legs. Then I stared up and saw her torso. She was thin under a black sweatshirt with the words, SMITH, on the back in yellow lettering. I also noticed she had a rather large chest, which was weird because she was so thin. I looked up into her face. She was concentrating hard on peddling the bike. Her pink tongue stuck out between thick lips and a crooked tooth. She had a pouty mouth, and big ass eyes. I stared at her, deciding that she was pretty. I really couldn't see her hair as her hood was up.

I was so bored I just watched her progress along the car. When it felt like all the tension in the air would suffocate us, we got to the store. Dad parked the car and I saw the girl prop her bike up against one of the poles in front of the store. Tre was trying to joke with my dad. Taking his hat and flicking his ear. I walked into the store and was greeted with about 5 guys. They looked at me in disgust. When my dad, Tre and Mike were on the other side of the big, old grocery convenience store, they came up.

"So, I hear you're from the city. You think you're better than us or something?" The tallest, thinnest boy in the crowd came forward and asked.

I can take him, I thought. I can take him but not all 4 of them at once, I thought.

"What makes you come to that assumption?" I asked him. He looked utterly confused for a moment and I laughed. "To dumb it down for you, what makes you think that I think I'm better than you?" I said with a smirk.

He stepped forward and I gulped. If ever there was a time I wanted my mommy, now was it.

"That's a bitch ass move, Erick," I heard. I turned and saw the girl I was staring at. She was and inch shorter than me, and she let her hood down to thick black hair.

"Stay out of this Sophie, it ain't none of your business," he said.

She got up and came to my side.

"Why are you gonna beat him up, is there a reason? 'Cause he outsmarted you? You gonna beat him up 'cause he's smart?" she asked. I noticed how they talked like people from the south except without the southern accent. I thought it was kind of cute.

"No. I'm gunna-" he started.

"You ain't gonna do shit. They (she gestured to the other guys) Are gonna beat him up, 'cause you are too weak. You wouldn't touch him, without at least 4 of your goons. So you can just get on out of here, before I decide I'm going to beat you up Erick. And while your gone try and find some balls will ya?" 'Sophie' said and grabbed my hand. She discreetly pulled me away. When they were a good size of space away, she turned to me.

"Are you crazy?!" she asked. "They could have beat you shit-less!"

"They could've easily beat you up too babe," I said. "And then I would have a girl getting beat up on my conscience"

She opened her mouth, closed it, and opened it again and asked, "What's your name?"

"Joey. And do you always talk like that?" I asked.

She blushed.

"I grew up in Alabama" she said.

"Aren't you hot with that on?" I asked, pulling on her sleeve.

"Yeah. I guess." She pulled it off. She wore a black shirt that showed a bit of her stomach and I could see a black belly button ring.

"Hot," I said.

"Huh?" she asked.

"Uh nothing. Look, I'm new here. Could you like meet me here around this time to show me around?" I asked.

"Hmmm okay," she said. "Bye." She turned around and left. As she was leaving I noticed a tattoo on the small of her back, A black rose.

I sighed and found my dad looking at a guitar magazine. Mike was reading it over his shoulder and Tre was looking at Playboy. I coughed. They jumped and Jakob came back with the cart. We bought the stuff and packed the car.
