She's A Rebel, chapter 3

"Laurie!" Kimberly yelled, running over to her. "I called you last night. Where were you?"

"Huh?" Laurie said confused. Her mom didn't tell her someone called for her. She usually did. "When did you call?"

"Umm...like six-fifteenish."

Laurie felt a lump in her throat. That's when she was at guitar lessons. She had them from six to six-thirty. What am I gonna tell her?, Laurie thought to herself. "I umm...was...out." It was the best excuse she could think of for now.

"Uhh...no duh, Laurie. Where were you when you were out?"

Laurie didn't think she was going to give up until she knew the whole truth. "I went to the store with my mom."

"What store?"

"Jesus Christ, Kim, a store. Okay?" Laurie was getting annoyed by Kimberly easily.

"Okay, okay. Jeeze, no need to be bitchy. See ya." Kimberly flicked her hair off of her shoulder and walked away, every boy down the hallway staring at her every move. Laurie sighed and headed towards her new favourite period, first. Before Billie Joe moved into town, she only liked it to see Jimmy. But now, instead of looking forward to seeing Jimmy, she was looking forward to seeing Billie Joe.

When Jimmy saw Laurie walk into Science. "Hey baby. What's cracking?"

Laurie hated the way he tried to sound cool. He was only cool because he was with the most popular girl in school. "Umm...not much."

Class started, and Billie Joe wasn't there. Laurie was a bit disappointed; she was wanted to see him.

Fifteen minutes into the class, the door opened. It was Billie Joe. "Uhh...sorry I'm late."

Mr. Ramierez tapped his fingers on the desk, "Your reason for being late, Mr. Armstrong?"

Billie Joe looked in the air, like the answer was going to fall down and hit him on the head. "I...uhh...got lost. It being my first week and all. I'm still not used to these hallways, ya know?"

Laurie snickered at his lame excuse. But, as usual, Mr. Ramierez believed it and let Billie Joe go without any punishment. As Billie Joe walked to his seat, his green eyes met with Laurie's hazel one. Laurie blushed; Billie Joe smiled and winked at her. Jimmy noticed this, but didn't think twice of it.

During class, though, the two met eyes again. Laurie could help it, she loved looking into his deep, green eyes. Billie Joe didn't protest as to be looking into her eyes either. He thought they were beautiful. As the two locked their eyes onto each other, Jimmy stared at them the whole time; neither one noticed him once. He began to fill with rage and jealously. He hated when Laurie looked at other guys, even looked at other girls. He always thought that those guys had something he didn't that Laurie liked.

After class, Jimmy confronted his girlfriend. He pulled her by the shoulder and turned her around. Laurie flinched a bit from the pain. "What the fuck was that about?" Jimmy's voice was rather loud.

Laurie had no clue what he was talking about. "What?"

"Oh don't act like you have no fucking clue, Laurie! I saw you locking eyes with that new loser in class! What the fuck!? I'm your boyfriend; not him!" Jimmy was hurt, but mad at the same time. He was causing a scene. Everyone gathered around, staring at the couple. Laurie was on the verge of tears.

"Stop it, Jimmy! I can look at people if I want to! Leave me alone! You acting like a complete loser!"

"I am not a loser you worthless bitch! You the one staring at losers!"

Laurie was furious. "How could you call Billie Joe a loser? You don't even know the kid!"

"Oh, so you're siding with you new boyfriend now. Aren't you?" Jimmy thought his was right in the fight. He knew Laurie would soon say sorry and it would all be over.

"Fuck you, Jimmy! Leave me the hell alone and don't talk to me ever again!" Jimmy felt like a knife went right through his heart. He loved Laurie; and she was telling him to fuck off.

Jimmy grabbed her shoulders. He didn't know what to think. He felt like hitting her, right then and there. But he also felt like breaking down; crying on her shoulders and saying he was sorry. Onlookers weren't sure what he was going to do. Most thought he was going to hit her. Lauire began crying. Teachers came out, pushing through the mass amount of people to get to the two of them.

"Okay everyone. Leave. Get to classes. Nothing to see here." Teachers were pushing students to their classes, leaving Laurie and Jimmy in the hall. Both were asked to go to the guidance office and weren't seen for the rest of the day. Billie Joe watched the whole argument. He knew he was the reason she was still down there.

The bell rung, and everyone headed home. People were heard whispering about the fight between Laurie and Jimmy. Everyone always thought they were the 'perfect couple' until today. No one ever saw them fight, but now they did. Billie Joe walked slow, hoping to find Lauire. He smirked when he saw her walking fairly fast down the street. He ran up to her, seeing her beautiful hair shine in the sun. It was a wonderful brown color, with natural red highlights that glistened in her hair. It reminded him a bit like his hair. He also had reddish-brown hair.

"Lauire! Wait up!" She didn't stop she just kept on walking. Billie Joe ran as fast as he could to her. He placed his hand on her shoulder, and she flinched a bit. He remembered Jimmy did the same thing earlier. She turned around and faced Billie Joe. He could tell she had been crying. Her eyes were bloodshot and red. Her nose was running a bit. The mascara she had carefully placed on her eyelashes that morning was now streaming down her face. It hurt Billie Joe to see her like this. She looked so helpless, so hurt.

Billie Joe spread his arms apart, offering a hug to her. Laurie walked to him and hugged him back. They stayed there for a few minutes; the only thing they heard was Laurie's frequent sniffles. Billie Joe lifted Laurie's chin up with his index and middle finger. "Are you okay, Laurie?"

She sniffled again, "He dumped me. He thinks I don't really love him. I did, Billie! I really did!"

"It's okay, Laurie. Maybe he's just really...mad. He might be over it tomorrow." Billie's eyes drifted towards the horizon. He thought them breaking up was his fault.

Laurie knew what he was thinking, "Billie, don't think this is your fault. It isn't. Jimmy is just a jealous boyfriend. He always has been. He always gets mad when I even talk to boys. I'm use to it."

"I thought he was going to hit you, Laurie." Billie Joe said, referring to the argument they had in the hall.

"He wasn't. I could tell he could do it. He actually looked more like he was going to cry. But, thanks for your concern." Laurie looked at him and smiled. Billie smiled back.

They walked home together, most of the time not talking. Billie Joe enjoyed walking with her, silent or not. This is the second day of him being here, and both days he has been walking home with her. He wondered why Jimmy didn't walk home with her yesterday, but he didn't think now was a great time to actually ask why.

They got to Laurie's house and she turned to Billie Joe and smiled. "Thanks for walking home with me a second day, Billie Joe."

"Hey, no problem. You are the only friend I've really got in this school right now."

Laurie was flattered that Billie Joe would actually consider her his friend. "And thanks for making me feel better."

"Well, I got to be good for something." He said and smirked. She laughed.

She headed towards her door. She paused and turned around. "Billie?"

Billie turned around and looked at her. "I'll be waiting for you to pick me up on Saturday."

Billie laughed, "You got it. Pick you up at six?"

"Yeah, but pick me up at the corner."

"Sneaking out I see." Billie Joe said, raising his eyebrow.

"Yes, I am as a matter of fact."

"Okay, Laurie. See ya tomorrow at school." Laurie waved and went inside.

She ran up to bathroom and closed her door. She couldn't wait for Saturday. But, she had only one problem: getting past her mom. She instantly thought of an idea. She quickly washed the mascara running down her face and ran downstairs to the kitchen. As she thought, her mom was in there.

"Hey honey, how was school?"

"Fine," she lied. "Uhh...mom?"

"Yes dear?"

"Andrea invited me to sleep over her house on Saturday. Can I go?"

"I don't see why not dear. Now, aren't you glad you aren't going to that concert</i? You wouldn't be able to sleep over Andrea's."

"I am. Thanks mom." Laurie said and ran to her room. Lying to her mom was easier than she thought.

She pranced around her room, excited for Saturday. She thought of what to wear, what to say, and whatever else you did at concerts. She had no idea; she's never been to one. A sixteen year old, not ever gone to one concert was pathetic to Laurie. But now, she finally has the opportunity to go to one.

Laurie decided to go to bed. She was tired, and couldn't wait to see Billie Joe tomorrow at school tomorrow. She realized what she just said and walked to her mirror. She looked at her reflection.

"I can't wait to see [i]Billie Joe
tomorrow?" She asked herself. Talking to herself while looking in the mirror always made her feel different about situations. "I love Jimmy, not Billie Joe, right?" She began to wonder if she liked Jimmy, or the new, blue-haired kid that now considered her a friend...
