She's A Rebel, chapter 4
School was a bit hard for Laurie. She had a few classes with Jimmy. When she walked into the classroom, she felt the eyes shift from her to Jimmy; everyone waiting to see what they would do. When she would walk down the hallways, she heard the whispers of people saying things towards her direction. Mostly, she heard "I can't believe he dumped her. Poor Laurie.", or "I heard she liked someone else besides him.". Laurie hated the rumours, but she knew she couldn't get away from them.
Luckily for her, the week went by fast. It was already Friday. It felt like jsut yesterday was Monday, the day she met Billie Joe. All she wanted was to see him and his band perform. She didn't even know the band's name! She was too excited to ask him. Laurie was surprised she made friends with Billie Joe this fast. He had only been here for five days and she was already going to a show with him. Everything was going a bit quick, but she didn't care.
"Laurie, are you all packed for Andrea's?" her mom said walking into her room.
For a moment, Laurie didn't know what she was talking about. But, she quickly remembered. "Umm...almost, mom."
"Honey, where's your bag?"
"In my closet. I have to get my stuff and put it in there."
"Oh. Okay. So, do you want me to drive you there?"
"No!" Laurie exclaimed. Her mother was a bit taken back by her reaction.
"I mean, no, mom. Andrea's is so close I think I could walk there."
Her mom had a puzzled look on her face, but she accepted her daughter wasn't wanting her to drive her there. She just walked away mumbling something about 'teenagers'. Laurie ignored her mumbles and continued to 'pack'. All she put in her bag was her oversized purse, and a pair of shoes. She wanted to pick two of her largest items she owned to make it looked like she packed. Lucky for her, her overnight bag wasn't big at all. Laurie decided, though, she would bring a water bottle too; incase it got hot. She placed her bag in the corner of her room near her door and thought about going to bed.
Laurie put her polka-dotted pajama pants on with a matching pink tank top. She pulled the covers away from under her white and grey pillows and placed herself underneath the covers. She layed sideways and felt her eyes get heavy. Soon after, she fell into a deep sleep...
The Saturday morning sun filled Laurie's room. Everything looked bright in it. Laurie woke up and lifted herelf out of bed. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and read the clock; 12:37 P.M. She yawned, covering her mouth in the process. Laurie pulled herself out of her comfortable bed and decided to get a shower.
The warm water hit her slightly-freckled face, waking her up. Her shower didn't last more then ten minutes. She turned the water off and put her purple robe on, knotting the matching purple tie on it as well. She wrapped her hair in a fluffy, white towel and walked downstairs to greet her family.
When she walked downstairs, she saw her mother on the couch. She was watching some cooking show, as always. She looked around for her father and saw him in the kitchen, making a pot of coffee. Her dad was a very big coffee drinker. He could never go one day without it.
"Morning mom! Morning dad!" Laurie said, cheer in her voice.
"Moning honey," her parents said in unison.
"So, Laurie," her mother began, "excited for tonight?"
Laurie sighed. She couldn't wait to see Billie Joe. She wanted to see his band; go to her first concert! "Very excited."
"Well that's good. What time are you heading to her house?"
Laurie headed towards the kitchen. She grabbed the pot of coffee her dad made and poured herself a cup. "Umm..I don't know five-fifty; I guess."
"That's a good time. Gives you enough time to walk there and be there by six." Laurie nodded and pour in some sugar and cream. She mixed everything together in her red and white striped cup. She took a sip from her cup and headed to the closest available seat near her mom on their couch.
"Well, honey, I hope you have a great time. What time are you going to be home tomorrow?"
Laurie forgot about that part; coming home. She didn't have anywhere to sleep for the night. She didn't want to just ask Billie Joe for a place to sleep; she thought it was too rude. She couldn't back out of the sleeping over part, though; it was the only way she could go to the concert. "Umm..I don't know, whenever."
"Be home by three. Okay?"
"Yeah; sure; whatever. Well, I better start getting ready. You know how I am, mom."
Her mother laughed, "Yes, unfortuantly, I do." Laurie acted likie she was hurt and started laughing, along with her mom. Laurie always too way too long to get ready. To be fully ready to go out took her about two and a half hours. But being as this is her first concert, she had no idea what to wear. And she also had to find something that was "mother-approved" so her mom didn't get suspicious.
After about an hour of thinkinging about what to wear, she thought she might have a good outfit. She decided on wearing a purple shirt with pink designs on it with her dark-wash jeans. She would wear her white sneakers and pull her hair up. She thought that was a very good outfit for a concert. Proud of herself, Laurie began getting herself fully together.
During her preparation, she looked at the clock. She had about an hour before she would need to meet up with Billie Joe. She decided she play her guitar to run out the sixty minutes. Lucky for her, it went fast. It was ten of six and it was now Laurie's time to leave. She got her bag and walked out of her room.
"Bye mom! Bye dad! Love you guys!" Laurie said, half-way out of the front door. Laurie was praying they weren't going to make her come in and give the hugs and kisses.
They didn't. All they said was, "Bye! Have fun!"
"Oh don't worry. I will." She said to herself, walking down her walkway. It wasn't that dark out, so Laurie could see everything perfectly. She saw the corner just up ahead, the street light was hard to miss. When she came to it, she sat down on the curb. Now all she had to do, was wait.
Laurie was becoming impatient. She kept looking at her watch. She thought it was broke, the hands weren't moving. She began thinking that maybe her clock was wrong and Billie Joe had been there, but she wasn't.
She thought, Maybe he thinks I stood him up!? Laurie was becoming paranoid.
"Hmm... just on time Laurie ma'dear." Lauire jumped at the voice. She turned around and instantly saw those vibrant green eyes. She felt like her heart was about to melt.
She rubbed her left arm with her right hand, "Hey, Billie. Ya ready to go?"
"No." He said plainly.
"What? Why? What's wrong?"
"You."
Laurie became insulted, "Me? What's wrong with me?"
"Well not really you, but your outfit."
"What's wrong with it?"
"It's bright purple, and pink." He said, a slight look of disgust of his face.
Laurie checked her outfit out, "Well, we can't change it. We have a concert to go to."
Billie Joe wagged his index finger in Laurie's face, "Actually, we don't. The concert is in about an hour. I was afraid of you wearing something to...preppy to here. So I decided to pick you up an hour early, just incase."
"Oh. So What would you have done if I had something "non-preppy" on?" Laurie said, making quotes with her fingers.
Billie Joe shrugged, "Not sure. I didn't really get that into detail."
"Alright. Well, what do you suggest; go home and get new clothes?"
"You can't do that, Laurie. You snuck out! Remember?" Laurie nodded. "Come on. We're going to my house. My sister has clothes that'll fit you, and you'll look hot at the concert." Laurie blushed. She wasn't intending on looking hot at the concert, but it wasn't going to hurt to have fun and look hot.
"Okay, Billie Joe. Lead the way!" She said, pointing in a random direction.
Billie Joe laughed. He positioned her pointing finger in the real direction of his house, "This way, Laurie." Laurie chuckled and followed Billie Joe to his house.
When they got there, she observed his home. It was basically like hers: one story, plants in the front lawn; she just didn't know if there was a pool or not. She liked the white with beige roof colours. It made the home look...charming. Billie Joe looked at her, sending a sign to follow him.
They walked into the front door and were greeted by a woman who looked in her early forties. "Billie! Why are you here? I thought you were heading down to Gilman? Who's this pretty girl you have with you?" Laurie blushed at the kind compliment.
"Hi, mom. I'm here to get clothes for Laurie in Holly's room. I am heading down to Gilman; after I get clothes for Laurie. And this pretty girl I have here is Laurie. I met her at school."
"Why hello, Laurie! I'm Ollie Armstrong. But please, dear, call me Ollie. It sounds like I'm old when people call me Mrs. Armstrong."
"It's 'cause she is old," Billie Joe mumbled to himself. Ollie playfully hit Billie on his head; Laurie giggled.
"Okay mom, we're going to Holly's room. Bye."
"Okay. It was nice meeting you, Laurie!" Ollie said cheerfully.
"You too Mrs. Arms...I mean Ollie." Laurie said, correcting herself.
"Here," Billie Joe said throwing clothes at Lauire, "Put these on. Here, I'll leave the room."
Billie Joe left and Laurie put the clothing on. She called Billie Joe in; his jaw dropped when he saw her. He looked at her black skirt with red fishnet leggings accompanied by a plaid red tee. Her feet were decorated with purple Converse. Billie Joe couldn't take his eyes off of her. He thought she looked so pretty.
"What? What's wrong? Does it look bad?" Laurie asked. She didn't know what to think of the outfit.
Billie Joe snapped into reality, "What? No! You look great!"
"You sure?" Laurie was a bit unsure.
"Positive. You ready to see how great me and my band are?"
Laurie smiled, "You bet!" Billie Joe grabbed her hand, and ran towards the front door. They both gave quick goodbyes to Ollie and were out the door, heading to Gilman Street.
