She's A Rebel, chapter 5
As the two were walking towards Gilman, all Billie Joe could think about was the preformance. In the past week that Billie Joe knew Laurie, he knew she was special. He wrote a song; he called it "The One I Want". Tonight, for the first time, Billie Joe was going to play it. Him and the band played it a few times, but haven't live yet. They didn't even know Billie Joe was planning on playing it tonight. And it was all going to be deicated to Laurie.
"Billie?" Billie Joe looked and saw Laurie's hazel eyes staring up at him. Billie Joe had a few inches up on her. He was about five foot four; she was only about five foot two.
"Yeah, Lauire?"
"Hi," she said. Laurie began to giggle.
Billie Joe laughed also. "Hi."
"I can't wait to see you and your band play, Billie."
"I can't wait for you to see us play. And, you get to meet John and Mike," Billie Joe said excitely. Laurie smiled.
"They sound like really great people," Laurie said. She stared at the horizon. The sun was setting, and the sky was filled with pink and orange clouds. Big, green trees lay neatly under the sky; the sound of birds chirping in the distance. It was simply a beautiful sunset for a perfect evening.
Billie Joe sighed, "Yeah. They really are great people. They're my best friends. And Mike is like a brother to me." Laurie wished she had a best friend whom she considered like a sister. But, sadly, she didn't.
After minutes of silence, the club Green Day was preforming at was in sight. Lauire looked at Billie Joe; he had a smile on his face. She smiled aswell.
"Excited?" Lauire asked him.
"Yeah. Nervous, too." He said. Billie Joe's eyes were fixated on Gilman. Thoughts of screwing up entered his mind the whole walk down. He thought that if he messed up the song, Laurie would think he wasn't a good guitar player. She might leave him because of it.
"Well, I think you guys are going to do fantastic." Lauire looked up at Billie Joe and grinned. He could see her perfect teeth. They were grown in, but the smallest teeth he had ever seen. They were pearly white, each one showing when she smiled. Seeing her smile made him smile, too.
Billie Joe led the way towards the back of Gilman. There was no one watching the door; so basically anyone could get in. Billie Joe opened the door, letting Laurie in before himself. Laurie thanked him and walked inside. She stood by the side, waiting for Billie Joe's movements to follow. She had no idea what to do and wasn't going to leave Billie Joe's side and get lost.
Laurie walked quietly behind Billie Joe and saw him walking towards two guys, looking around their age. Billie Joe gave both of them high fives and began talking to them. He stopped and turned around to Laurie. He motioned her to come over to where they were; she listened.
"Laurie, I'd like you to meet Mike. He's our bass player." Laurie shook hands with a rather tall guy. He had brown hair, coming to the middle of his back.
"Hey, Laurie, it's great to meet you. Billie's told me alot about you."
"Oh. I've heard stuff about you, too," she said in a bit of a daze. Laurie was a bit taken back by his comment. Billie Joe realized what Mike had said and elbowed his in his rib.
"Ow man!" Mike yelled. He clenched the side of his rib with his hand. "What the fuck was that for?"
"For being an idiot, Mike." Billie Joe said plainly.
"Anyway, Lauire," Billie Joe said after a moment of silence, "I'd also like you to meet John, our drummer." Lauire saw the other man. He was a bit short. He had short, dark hair. He looked a bit uneasy around everyone; he didn't seem like much of a talker.
"Hey, John," Lauire said, trying to sound friendly.
"Hey," John said. He had no emotion in his voice. Lauire felt a bit uncomfortable. Billie Joe noticed.
"Well..uhh..we better get ready." Billie Joe said. He really wasn't directing the question at anyone.
He turned to Lauire, "You wanna wait out here, or go out in the pit?"
"Umm...I think I'll go in the most pit. I mean, it is my first concert." She hugged Billie Joe. She whispered in his ear, "Thanks for taking me."
"My pleasure," he whispered back. She smiled and walked towards the large group of people, waiting for Green Day to play.
"So man," Mike began, "ya like her, don't cha?"
Billie Joe sighed, "I don't know, Mike."
John flopped down on the couch in the room, "Well, I know one thing." Mike and Billie Joe both looked at him. "that girl is hot."
When John said that, it made Billie Joe mad. He didn't want any other guy to think she was hot. He thought she was more than hot; she was beautiful. Maybe he did like her, but he didn't know one hundred percent.
"Billie?" he lost his train of thought and saw John looking at him.
"What?"
"I said: Don't you think she's hot?"
"Oh. Umm...yeah..sure." John eyed Billie Joe suspiciously, and just shrugged.
"Should we head out?" Billie Joe and Mike both nodded at John's question.
As they were heading out, Billie Joe remembered the song. "Uhh..guys..?"
Mike and John turned around and faced Billie. "I..uhh..was wondering. Uhh...you know that new song?"
Both guys nodded. "Well..uhh..to you think we could..umm..play it tonight?"
"Are you sure about that Billie?" Mike asked. "I mean, we did just learn it this week."
"Yeah," Billie Joe said confindently, "I'm sure."
Mike looked at John. John shrugged. None of the bands members were completely sure the song would turn out good. But, it was worth a try to at least play it. The three musicians headed out on stage. The roar from the crowd when the lead singer came onstage was loader than earlier. It became even loader when the bass player and drummer came out.
Billie Joe adjusted the microphone to his own level of comfort and looked out it the crowd. He searched for Laurie. He didn't know where she was. The crowd became quieter, all eyes on Billie Joe. No one but Billie Joe knew what exactly he was doing.
"Billie Joe!" A voice came from the crowd. Billie Jow knew that voice. He looked to his right, where he heard the voice come from. He saw a hand in the air, waving frantically at him. The owner of that hand, was Laurie.
Billie Joe smiled and waved back. He grabbed the microphone and looked out into the crown. "Hellooo everyone!" The crowd cheered.
"We are Green Day. Glad you all came out. Today, we have a new song. I just wrote it this week. It's called "The One I Want". So you lucky mother fuckers get to hear it for the very first time live." Everyone went crazy. Billie Joe laughed to himself. All three band members got in their position to play.
"And before we start...Laurie?" Billie Joe looked in the direction where Laurie was. Their eyes met. "This one is for you."
Laurie felt like she was going to faint. Never had a boy dedicated a song to her. She felt goosebumps run down her arms when the sound of Billie Joe's guitar ran through her body. The crowd seemed so pumped up when Green Day was playing. Everyone was moshing along to the music. At first, Laurie wasn't quite sure what to do. But once she saw what everyone else was doing, she just followed along.
Green Day played a few more songs. No one seemed to stop jumping the whole time. The energy in the room was great. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the music. And they were so lively on stage. Billie Joe never stopped moving the whole time. The show lasted about a half hour. Everyone cheered when they left the stage. Laurie decided she should find Billie Joe. She weeved her way through the various people and made her way to a more clear area. Laurie saw a group of people huddled, looknig like they were pushing to make their way through. She decided she would go see what was going on; Billie Joe might be in that crowd.
Sure enough, Laurie saw that blue, radient hair on the top of Billie's head. The group of people seemed to have wanted autographs. Billie Joe and Mike's smiles were ear-to-ear. John just sat there, like it was no big deal.
Billie Joe looked up from the paper he was signing and saw Laurie. She looked a but sweaty, but still beautiful. He smiled at her. She smiled back. Billie Joe got up and pushed his way through the people. He walked up to Laurie and stared at her.
"Hey," he said, never taking his eyes off of her.
"Hey. You guys were awesome! I loved it! My favorite concert."
"Laurie?"
"Hmm..?" She said, getting a better look at the club. The walls were a dark color; the paint looked like it was peeling. There was a familiar odor of lcohol, sweat, and smoke. The couches people could sit on were an ugly shade of yellow-green. They were all torn up, too. The people, though, were Laurie's favorite thing to look at. Everyone there dressed the way Laurie wished they could. They looked like the couldn't care less if you looked down on them. They dressed how they wanted and didn't care about people's opinion.
Billie Joe laughed, "You've only been to one concert."
"Oh yeah." Laurie threw her right hand up to her forhead and began laughing.
"Hey, you wanna go for a walk?" Laurie nodded. Billie Joe grabbed her hand and led her through the crowds of people. Laurie felt chills run up her arm when he touched her. She never got that feeling with any other guys she'd been with.
They got to the front door; Billie held it open for her. When they got outside, it was dark. The chirping of bids went away, and the sound of crickets took its place. Laurie looked up and saw a large variety of stars. Some looked big, others looked small. It looked so pretty to Laurie.
Billie Joe was trying to think of the right words to say to her. The more he stood there in silence with her, the stronger his feelings were for her. He needed to tell her how he felt, but he was afraid she didn't feel the same way.
"So, Billie" Laurie began, making Billie Joe loose his train of thought. "Was that song written for me?"
"Yup."
"You wrote it?"
"Yup. I had to."
Laurie was a bit confused, "You had to?"
Billie Joe nodded, "Yup. I had to."
"Why?"
Billie Joe inhaled a large, deep breath of fresh air. Okay, Billie Joe, it now or never...
"Because...I didn't know how to put it into real words."
"Put what into real words?" Laurie hazel eyes had an interest to know. She wasn't just asking to ask. She really wanted to know.
"Laurie, from the day I first saw you, I had a feeling you were special. Even though you dressed like a majority of the girls in school, I could tell you were different. Instead of cheerleading, you play guitar. That right there, made me love you even more. And-"
"You love me?" Laurie cut in.
"Well..uhh.." Billie Joe didn't know how to put it into words.
"Billie Joe?" He looked up at her. She was still wanting an answer; he could see it in her eyes. All he did was slowly nod.
"Well I just met you, Billie Joe. I don't know that much about you." Billie Joe hung his head low, upset she didn't feel the same way.
"But," she continued, "you're something special aswell, Billie Joe. I feel like I can be myself around you. I feel like I don't have to put an act up for you. No one's ever made me feel that way."
Laurie bit her lower lip, "I think that..I love you too, Billie Joe."
Billie Joe looked up at Laurie and smiled, ear-to-ear. He ran to her and hugged her, never wanting to let go. He never felt this happy in his life. He let go of Laurie, and stared into her hazel eyes. Laurie looked into his green eyes. Both of them were locked in a trance of each others' eyes. Billie Joe placed both his hands on Laurie's cheeks and kissed her. Laurie kissed back. The way his soft lips felt on her slightly glossed ones made Laurie want to melt. A guy was never this sweet to her.
Their kissed parted, "I love you, Laurie," Billie Joe whispered into her ear.
"I love you too, Billie Joe," Laurie whispered.
The two began walking, neither one talking. Little did they know, they were thinking about the same thing; what just happened. Both of them were so happy, neither too sure how to put it into words.
"So, Laurie, where ya going tonight?"
"I'm not sure. I might roam around until morning."
"What?! Why didn't you tell me you didn't have a place to stay?!" Laurie shrugged.
"Well, I guess you're stuck sleeping at the Armstrong residence for a night," Billie Joe grinned.
"Oh, Billie! I couldn't!"
"Why?"
"I just can't. You've already taken me to the concert and all. I couldn't ask for more."
"You aren't asking to stay at my place; I'm telling you to stay at my place. Trust me, my mom won't care one bit." Billie Joe didn't look like he was going to take no for an answer, so she gave up and decied to stay with him at his house. He smiled and grabbed Laurie's hand.
Hebegan picking up his pace, cause Laurie to, too. Pretty soon, they were running. Laurie couldn't stop laughing. She was having such a great time. She noticed Billie Joe was laughing, too.
Since both of them were a fairly fast set of runners, they made it to Billie's house quick. Billie Joe walked in first. Laurie saw his mom get up and give him a kiss. She walked in quietly.
"Oh, Billie Joe, how was the concert?" Ollie asked excitely.
"Great, mom. Say..uhh...Laurie needs a place to crash for the night. Can she stay here?"
"Of course! Lauire, honey, come here. It looks like you think we have cooties or something!" Ollie said with a laugh.
Laurie walked over and stood next to Billie Joe, "Thank you Mrs. Armstrong."
"Laurie, please call me Ollie."
"Oh! I forgot. I'm sorry."
Ollie and Billie Joe both laughed. "Honey, no need to be sorry. You're new around here. So, I'll show you to an available room we have. One of my daughters-"
"Uhh..mom, can Laurie sleep in my room?" Billie Joe asked. Laurei was a bit shocked he would ask that.
"Billie Joe, can I trust you not to get...occupied if she in there?" Ollie asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Yes, mom."
Billie Joe walked towards his room, Laurie followed. He opened the door to his room and Laurie stepped in. The walls were a deep blue and black. Posters were everywhere. In the corner, there was a blue guitar with an amp next to it. Notebooks were scattered everywhere and picks were lying everywhere.
"It's not the "cleanest", but it'll do," Billie Joe said.
Laurie walked to the guitar and looked at it. It was beautiful. "You like it?"
Laurie nodded, "It's so beautiful."
"My dad gave it to me; before he died. My most prized possession. I don't know what I'd do without Blue."
"Blue; that's it's name, right?"
"Right," he said.
"Well Laurie," Billie Joe yawned, "I don't know about you, but I'm tired."
"I am, too."
Laurie was starting to make her way on the floor when Billie Joe stopped her. "Don't sleep down here, Laurie! The bed's big enough for both of us."
She was a bit edgy at first. She'd never been in the same bed with a guy. But, she didn't mind it. She got under the black sheets and slept on her side. The bed was comfortable to her. It made her even more tired. Her eyes were becoming heavier; her dreams coming into sight. The last thing she remembered before she fell asleep was the warmth of Billie Joe's body pressed against her when he wrapped his arm around her. She went to sleep with a smile glued to her face.
"Billie?" Billie Joe looked and saw Laurie's hazel eyes staring up at him. Billie Joe had a few inches up on her. He was about five foot four; she was only about five foot two.
