The Course of True Love Never Did Run Smooth, chapter 14

*Sadie's POV*

It was four days after Joe had proposed. We had told our family and friends, and I was about to announce it to the public on TRL. I had lost a bit of the baby weight thankfully, but covered the remaining weight with an empire waist dress. I wore jeans with it so I wouldn't look too formal.

I was backstage, and I could hear a VJ whom I had never even heard of talk about me.

"And welcome back to TRL! I'm Lola Russell. All right everyone, if you're just tuning in, Sadie Wright is on the show! This will be her first public appearance since her twins with Joe Armstrong were born. She's here to answer all your questions."

As the pair spoke to the excited audience, a make up artist sped towards me.

"Quick touch up Miss Wright." The man said, brushing powder on my cheeks.

He skittered away as Lola called my name.

"And now, the moment we've all been waiting for, Sadie Wright come one out!"

I walked out onto the stage and waved to the many fans in the bleachers, and the ones outside.

"Hello Sadie! How are you tonight?" Lola asked, as I sat down on the chair across from hers.

"I'm really good. It's great get back into my normal routine. I haven't done an interview in a while." I said, smiling bashfully at the fans that were cheering for me. Not many designers were treated like normal celebrities. It's as if I starred in a TV series or something.

"Now Sadie, tabloids are posting rumors of what your twins names are, yet you haven't actually disclosed the names or the sexes of your children. Why is this?"

"Well, I didn't get around to disclosing them before because they were premature, and they had to stay in the hospital for a couple of weeks. Basically Joe and I were spending most of our time there, and we didn't get out much."

"Ah, I see. So are you willing to reveal their names today?"

"Sure. We have a little boy, his name is Jonathan Phillip, and a daughter, Fiona April."

The people outside were screaming and cheering, and I blushed.

"Oh my gosh! Those are gorgeous names Sadie. So, are you going to release pictures of your twins any time soon?"

"Uh, well People Magazine has asked to do a shoot of the twins with Joe and I, and we think that's a neat idea, so we'll be doing that soon."

"That's fantastic! I'll be sure to buy a copy."

"Thanks." I said with a smile.

"Now Sadie, we've got some questions for you that we've received via-email, and we were wondering if you were wondering if you would be willing to answer them."

"Oh for sure. Go right ahead." I always loved being interviewed.

"Alright, this one's from Catherine in Chattanooga Tennessee. Sadie, are you going to release a line of baby clothes now that your twins are born?"

I giggled and shook my head.

"Nah. I'm gonna stick to clothes for adults. It doesn't matter if a baby's wearing Osh Kosh overalls or a designer baby tuxedo. They're still adorable."

"Very true Sadie, very true. I would have to agree with you on that one. Now, here's another one from Belinda in Sacramento California. Sadie, are you and Joe getting married anytime soon?"

I lifted up my hand to show off my new engagement ring. The crowd started screaming again.

The cameras zoomed into my ring so North America could get a good look.

*Joe's POV*

I stayed back at the hotel with Fiona and Jonathan. Jonathan was asleep, and I was bouncing Fiona lightly in my lap while watching Sadie live on TRL. She had just announced the engagement.

Fiona sneezed and looked at me with her big green eyes. Aside from those eyes, she really looked a lot like Sadie.

"Hello Fiona. Yes I see you, you little nut."

Already at five weeks old, the twins had their own distinguished personalities. Well, at least I think so. Sadie thinks I'm crazy.

Jonathan was the attention seeker. He'd oftentimes cry if he was just lonely and wanted some attention. Fiona however was the quieter one. She just sat and wiggled around usually, which is actually a miracle in my opinion. I was afraid one of them would be as difficult as I was when I was little. I cried constantly. Hey, my Dad didn't name the album Insomniac for no reason.

Fiona had calmed down a bit so I decided to put her in the bassinet with Jonathan. I focused my attention to the television because Sadie had started talking again.

"I really don't know actually. We haven't set a date. I mean, we only got engaged a while ago so we don't have anything planned."

"I see. Now Sadie, tell me. You're usually a very secretive person. You aren't often found answering the many questions reporters are throwing at you. Not much is known about your past. Are you eventually going to come clean?"

I scrunched my eyebrows at the question. The way that woman stated it as 'Coming clean' made it sound like something Sadie was going to have to do eventually. Sadie doesn't like talking about her past. I don't think that woman had the right to ask Sadie that.

"Well, I don't know. I don't think my past is really anyone's business other than my families. Plus, I'm not too keen on talking about it. I've put the past behind me and I'm happy with what I'm doing currently. Just focusing on the 'now' y'know?"

"I see. So there's no E-True Hollywood Stories in you future?"

"Well... Maybe when I turn thirty. We'll see if my opinion has changed by then." She said with a smirk. Man, Sadie can put on a brave face. I mean, she's hardly told me anything about her past. I know more than she thinks I do though. Tre's told me some stuff. I know her mom died somehow, she has family in New Zealand, and her Dad is in a Jamaican prison. I don't know much about her experience in the orphanage though, but I remember Tre saying how shitty he felt when she had to go back that one night the house got inspected. He said she used to have weird mood swings where something would remind her of her mom, and she'd flip out. But that's it. I don't know if there's much more to the story.

Before I knew it, the TRL segment had ended, and a commercial popped up on the screen. Almost immediately my cell phone started to ring. I picked it up quickly so it wouldn't wake up the twins.

"Hello?"

"Hey Joe."

"Hey Sadie. You looked great on the show today."

"Aw, thanks. How're the twins?"

"They're great. They're both sleeping right now. I just put Fiona to bed."

"Good to hear. You aren't super tired?"

"Nope. I'm good. Why?"

"Uh, no reason. I'll be right there okay?"

"Okay Sadie. Buh-bye."

"Bye Joe."

I hung up and got up off of the chair I was in. I went to the fridge in the hotel and grabbed a root beer. I was thirsty. It was a really hot day today. I didn't even feel like putting on a shirt today, so I was bare-chested. However, I did have plaid sweat pants on.

I sat back on the sofa and changed the channel to the local news station. The news report really wasn't all that interesting, and my eyes wandered down to my abs. I'm not as toned as I used to be now that I've been spending most of my time in the house, but I'm still pretty fit.

I sipped my drink and started to flip through the channels. I stopped on a music channel and lowered the volume a bit. They were playing a video by Be Your Own Pet, which was one of Sadie's favourite bands. But you can never listen to them too loud. The lead singer's voice is too piercing.

I sighed and scratched my head. I was really bored. Hopefully Sadie would cure my boredom somehow.

I got lost in a train of thought, and before I knew it I heard Sadie unlock the door and step inside.

"Hey Sadie," I said getting up from the couch while being careful not to step in the bassinet the twins were in.

"Hey," she said smiling. She plopped her heavy bag on the ground and pulled her fingers through her hair. I could tell the heat was taking a toll on her as well.

"What time is it? I had a nap earlier before watching the interview and I lost track of time. My watch broke."

"Uh, it's around four," she said as she scurried over to the twins to see if they were sleeping alright. She then turned around and locked her lips onto mine. At first I was taken aback by her sudden pounce so to say, but I quickly started to unbutton my shirt. I threw it onto the floor and pressed Sadie up against the wall.

It had been a really long time since we did it. Like...weeks. We had been really tired lately and never gotten around to it.

Sadie pulled her shirt off and seized my belt. She got it off in what seemed like record speed. We sped towards our bed and didn't bother getting under the covers.
