A Fork Stuck In The Road., chapter 14
I re-adjusted the blind fold that had been placed around my head, and allowed myself to be tugged along by Billie and Joey. I presumed that they were guiding me out the front of the house. This was supposedly my birthday present from them.
We came to what I thought was the end of the driveway.
"Okay, you can take off the blind fold now," Adrienne said in an excited voice.
I undid the knot, and took it off.
Parked, two feet in front of me was a sleek red convertible.
My jaw dropped, and I just stood there and gasped.
"Are you gonna say something?" asked Jake.
I squealed. I jumped up and down like a little five year old and squealed.
"Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!!!" I screamed, somehow pulling Joey, Jakob, Billie and Adie into a hug. I could hear them laughing.
Wow. Just wow. My own car!!!!!!
After about five minutes, I finally calmed down a bit.
"I don't know how to drive." I said to Billie and Adie.
"I'll teach you. It'll be easy!" said Billie.
I beamed. Could this day get any better?
Suddenly, I felt the urge to throw up. I ran into the house and to the nearest toilet and spewed out my heart.
I felt someone standing behind me, holding my hair back from my face. The vomit kept coming and coming.
At last, it came to an end. I stood straight, and washed my face and brushed my teeth.
"Are you feeling better?" Adrienne asked in a concern.
I nodded. "Yeah, thanks."
Adie insisted that I rest in bed the rest of the night. I just sat in my bed finishing off my homework, when I heard a soft knock on the door.
"Come in,"
In entered Joey, holding a tray of soup.
"Hey buddy."
"Hey Em. Mum wanted me to come and give you this."
He handed me the tray and sat down on the end of the bed.
"Are you feeling better?"
"Much thanks."
He was silent for a minute, and then he looked up at me and asked, "Can I ask you a question?"
I swallowed quickly and nodded, surprised at his request.
"Does dad go on tour 'coz he needs to get away from us?"
At that exact point, I knew what true love from son to father was. I felt my heart melt.
I pushed my bowl away from me, and looked Joey in the eye.
"Your dad loves you so much, and I know it breaks his heart when he has to leave you. But he loves music as well, and that's the gift he gives the world."
Joey nodded thoughtfully at me, as if he had understood every word I said perfectly.
"Thank you. It makes more sense now."
I reached over to him and pulled him into my lap, hugging him.
