A vampire story - Your favourite trio included, chapter 1

People think vampires are monsters. They think that Vampires are horrible creatures who drain humans of all blood and will melt instantly in sunlight, also that they can fly and magically transform into a bat. People also believe that the only way to kill a vampire is by a stake or silver bullet, and that they are afraid of crosses and holy water

What I say to this?

It's rubbish. Most of that is total crap. Vampires never drain a human of all blood, they take only what they need and most of the time (if the vampire is not insane) they will only feed off a human for 1 minute every few weeks. Months if it's a full vampire and not a half one. They can't magically transform into a bat, neither can they fly. They are not afraid of crosses or holy water. You can kill a vampire by stakes and silver bullets, but you can also kill it by a well placed stab wound or normal bullet as with any ordinary human. Oh yeah, and they don't melt instantly in sunlight, It takes 10 hours for that to happen and they get bad sunburn first!

I bet you want to know how I know all of this. Well I might as well tell you. I am a vampire. It started about 20 years ago when I was 30...

I unlocked the door to my house and walked in, shutting out the sharp wind behind me. As I took off my coat and and unravvelled the scarf from my neck I smoothed down my black/electric blue hair then walked into the kitchen. I glanced into the front room where my best friend was sitting on the couch watching a film that looked like the latest version of doctor who.

"Hey Tanya! I'm back!" I called out cheerfully as I walked over to the cupboards in the kitchen scouting for food but only finding tins of beans and packets of instant mash I closed them again then moved to the fridge

"Took you about bloody time! I've been waiting for ages for you to get home from work so I could tell you about the awesome show I got tickets for!" She ran over to me then stopped and thrust a ticket in my hand. Looking at the green piece of paper curiously I put down my can of coke which I had managed to get from the fride and red the heading on the green piece of paper

"What's this supposed to be?" I mutter "some kind of freak show?" I look up at Tanya and she nods her head excitedly,
"I heard about it from Darren today, He gave me these and told me to bring you along. It starts at midnight but that won't be a problem... Will it?"

She pauses noticing the confuzed and slightly horrified look on my face

"Leah? Whats wrong?" She looks concerned.
"I thought they banned these ages ago? I thought they were banned because it was unfair to the so called freaks" I look up at Tanya and search her eyes for some kind of a joke that this isn't a real freak show and she isn't really expecting me to go along with her and Darren, but as hard as I look I find none.

"Yeah they did.. Thats why this one only starts at midnight and it only plays in old abandoned factories or really big houses and stuff."

"Tanya... I can't go to this... How would you like to be part of that show and have people press they're ugly faces in on you? To have people laughing and making fun of you just 'caus you different?" I frown at her and try to give her the ticket back but she won't accept it

"Leah, Darren and I really want you to come to this... Please come for us, it's not like you think. One of Darrens friends went yesterday and he says it wasn't like he expected at all... That it was different and everyone that was part of it was healthy and happy"

I sigh and pick up my can of coke again, still staring at the ticket I walk into the front room and sit down on the couch where the TV is blairing out some ridiculous advert on car insurance.

"Please come Leah, I won't be able to face going if you don't go and that'll leave Darren on his own and you know he hates going places on his own!"

I sigh again, knowing that she's telling the truth and won't stop bothering me untill I agree to go. Ever since Darren got beat up when he was on holiday on his own he cant bear to go somewhere alone anymore. Not even to the corner shop.
Admitting defeat I pull my knees up to my chin and stare at my ticket whilst talking to Tanya

"Alright... I'll go, but at the first hint of people not being treated fairly in that thing then i'm outta there and calling the cops OK?" I look up at Tanya who is now nodding her head furiously.

"Yeah of course! I'll even come with you!" She slides over next to me on the couch and gives me a big hug, her straight blond hair getting in my face a little and tickling my cheek. "Thank you so much! It's going to be great! Honestly! We'll all have a brilliant time"

I nod my head a little unsure at her sureness that everything will be hunky dorey but force a small smile onto my face all the same.

"So when is it anyway? You forgot to tell me while you were begging me to go"
She looks at me with a distent look in her eyes but quickly comes back into focus as I wave my hand infront of her face.

"Sorry what? Oh yeah it's tomorrow... Or it might be tonight... No nope it's tonight!"
She grins, her white teeth gleaming in the light.

"Allright... I was thinking about having some food but now you say it's tonight I think I'll just head to bed."

With this I do as I say I will and walk upstairs. In my mind I wonder if this so called freak show is everything it's made up to be. I wonder if it's real 'freaks' or just stupid people dressed in costumes. I guess that I'll find out when we get there so I stop thinking and get changed into my pjs then crawl into bed, appreciating the warmth and softness of it as I pull my covers up and fall asleep almost instantly, ready for whatever the show will throw at me.
