I woke up to seeing sleeping people all around me, and then looked at the wall, realizing I was in the hospital-AGAIN. I groaned, and that woke Billie Joe and Nick, both sitting next to me, up.
"Kay!" Billie Joe yelled, grabbing and hugging me. "Thank god you're all right!" Just then the rest of the crew woke up, well, except Tre-he sleeps through anything-and were all giving me hugs and telling me they were glad I was alright.
"Okay, okay, I can't breathe now," I muttered upon being smothered by Joey and Jakob.
"Hello again, Kay," Dr. Shiver said, coming in.
"Jackson again?" I moaned. Everyone laughed, and Mike said it was because it was the closest. "Anyone care to explain what happened after I blacked out?"
"Well, I managed to get you to the car, and Nick called Billie and Adie," Mike explained. "We saw Dr. Shiver first thing, and Joey called him over. We explained what happened as you were brought to a room."
"Meh. Joy," I muttered. I don't think anyone heard me.
"In about 5 minutes, Billie came running in here, with Adrienne close on his heels. I'll tell you one thing, Billie was crying his eyes out when he saw you hooked up to that machine." He pointed to the heart monitor by my bed.
"Why the hell do I have a heart monitor attached to me?" I asked, now quite ticked off.
"We didn't know if you'd wake up," Dr. Shiver said, taking over. "You almost lost enough blood to be classified to a coma." I got chills at that. "If not for Nicholas over there, you might be dead." I now shut my eyes. I don't like hearing the words dead or death. Nick saw this and put his hand over mine. I then saw the band-aid on his arm, and knew it was true. I smiled and he knew that meant thank-you.
He laughed and whispered to me, "Any time."
And out of the blue, I said, "Can I have my ice cream now? I'm hungry." Everyone laughed, and Tre finally woke up. I saw a water bottle cap by my bed and threw it at his head. "About time you got up, smarty. No, I take that back; a Smartie's a candy." Now everyone was roaring, and Tre was clueless to what was going on, repeatedly asking, "What's so funny!?"
So I eventually got my ice cream, explained to Tre what was so funny, and most everyone left at about 7, because only family were allowed to stay. Since the Armstrongs were my legal guardians, they stayed.
"I'm bored without Tre here!" I whined. Jake was asleep, and Joey was arguing/sword fighting Billie Joe, so that left me to Adrienne.
"Mind if I try something with your hair?" Adie asked.
"Sure," I was bored out of my mind, so I didn't care. About a half-hour later, Adie finally said she was done. I looked in the bathroom mirror after shoving Billie away from it and looked at my reflection. "Wow, Adie, that looks really cool!" Billie was by now curious, and came to investigate.
"Adrienne did that?" Billie Joe asked, poking at my hair. "I never knew she had it in her."
"All girls do," I replied, whacking his hand away. "I just can't do it myself because my hair's so long."
"Good point," he laughed. My hair was at little over 2 feet long by now.
NEXT MORNING
"Billie, get your fat ass off my feet," I whined, just waking up and trying to push him off, but with no luck.
"Ass... not... fat... ," Billie Joe muttered, still asleep.
"Yes, it is, now get off me!" I gave one final shove, and his response was a snore. Adrienne had been watching this whole thing and was trying not to crack up. Having had enough, I whacked him on his head, full force. That woke him up-I was pretty strong.
"OW!! WHAT THE HELL!?" Billie hollered, jumping off the bed. "What did the head ever do to you?"
"The head got the butt's punishment!" I yelled, laughing my head off. Then Dr. Shiver came in, obviously wondering what was going on.
"Should I ask?" he said, looking at Billie holding the top of his head with both hands, Adrienne on the floor laughing, and me trying not to fall off my bed.
"I hit Billie because he was lying on my feet and he wouldn't move, so I hit his head to get him up," I explained, still laughing. Billie glared at me.
"Well, anyway," Dr. Shiver said, trying not to crack up, too. "If you want, you can leave sometime around noon."
I looked at the clock. It was a little after 10. "YES!!" I yelled, jumping out of my bed and starting to dance. I guess my scream woke the boys up, and next thing I know, I have Joey begging me to stop dancing, and Jake was trying to restrain me. So I sat down as not to embarrass the boys any further. Then Joey yelled dog pile, and next thing I know, I have Billie Joe, Joey, and Jake-in that order, bottom to top-on top of me. Then Billie Joe started to tickle me.
"Alright, alright," I laughed, nearing tears. "Uncle, uncle!"
"I'm not your uncle!" Billie yelled, tickling me harder.
"GOD OF PUNK ROCK, STOP!!" I yelled. I was crying from laughing so hard.
"That's better," Billie Joe smirked, and he and the boys got off me. Then Tre, Mike, and Nick came in.
"Where's MP and Derek, Dippy?" I asked, expecting them to come running around the corner and jump me.
"They went home," Nick answered. "But my family went on a vacation without telling me, so could I stay with you guys for a while?"
"Sure," Billie Joe answered. "I'm sure the boys'll be happy to have a guy around their age around."
"Don't I count?" I whined, pouting.
"You're a girl, Kay," Jake said, coming over and hugging me. Was I a hug magnet or what?
"Your point?" I asked. I have friends who consider me one of the guys, so I was a little confused.
"You're our sister! And our friend, too, but it's just not the same! Like you girls like to talk about who's dating who, guys talk about...well, guy stuff."
"Fine, but Nick?"
"Yeah?" he answered, looking away from the TV.
"Don't cloud Jake's somewhat-innocent mind with crap, okay?"
"Kay! How could you say that!? I thought you trusted me!" he pouted.
"You're 14, and they're 11 and 7. I needed to say that."
So we finally left the hospital (hallelujah) and once we got to my house, a car was there. I looked around, and found an officer standing by the front door. I went up and asked what was wrong.
"Are you Miss Kay H? Relative of the Rossmans?" he asked looking at his clipboard.
"Yes?" I asked. What did this have to do with my cousins? Oh. DUH, stupid.
"Well, we need you to come to the station and answer a few questions."
"She's not going anywhere," I heard Billie Joe run up and say. "And you are?" he asked the officer.
"Sergeant Coldwire. Superior to 5 of the Rossmans."
"Who are?"
"This young lady's family."
"I'm sure you've seen her story on the news, now goodbye, sir," Billie Joe said pulling me away.
"Billie!" I scolded and slipped out of his grasp. "Let's just go down. I know what I need to do. I knew this day would come."
AT THE POLICE STATION
"Sheesh, this place is bigger than I thought," I asked, looking at all the doors and windows.
"You've been here before?" Billie asked, worried.
"Yeah, when my mom had to get fingerprints for her teaching license."
"Oh," he said, breathing a sigh of relief. "I thought you'd been arrested or something."
"No, I haven't, and don't plan on it."
"We're here," Stg. Coldwire said, opening the door to a small room. "Only one of you comes with her." We decided Adrienne should go, because we were the only girls of the bunch. So about an hour later, we came out. My face was red from crying, and Adie had her arm around my shoulder.
"Thank you for your information, miss," Stg. Coldwire was saying. "It will be of much help."
"Yeah, sure," I muttered, just wanting out of there.
Once in the car, I grabbed my iPod, plugged in my headphones, and turned on the American Idiot album. When Give Me Novocaine came on, I started crying. How true those words felt. I was in between Joey and Nick, and they both hugged me when they saw. Nick, knowing what my favorite song was, switched it to St. Jimmy. I laughed, and rested my head on his shoulder. I was soon asleep.
