The Assassination Of Billie Joe, chapter 1
The screeching of the Tardis whirled around me. It screeched and screamed and I felt sick and dizzy.
"So," The Doctor said beaming at me, somehow unaffected by the Tardis.
"We're here." He replied leaning against the confusing controls of the Tardis.
"I seriously can't understand why you want to come here.."
"Look, I just want to see it with my own two eyes." I said angrily.
"What, the death of the lead singer of your favourite band?" He asked messing with some of the controls before walking over to me.
"Well, I never had the chance to see them before he died." I said turning to watch him unlock the Tardis door.
"You better hurry up because he died at exactly six o'clock and its quarter past five already. What was the name of the band again?" The Doctor asked turning round to me and standing in the door way.
"Green Day." I replied, walking out quickly.
I stood out side the arena doors waiting for The Doctor to catch up.
"How exactly are we going to get inside?" I asked as he rummaged about in the pocket of his leather jacket.
"Here," He said passing me a blank piece of paper about the size of a ticket.
"It's just a paper they're not going to fall for that!" I replied sarcastically.
"Ah! Its not just a piece of paper. It's psychic paper, I can make people see what ever I want them to see." I looked at him gone out. I wasn't going to ask how they worked, or where he had got them from.
We walked over to the entrance were a glum looking ticket collector stood at the door.
"Bit late aren't you?" He asked as he ripped a corner of our fake tickets
"Yeah, we hit a bit of traffic." The Doctor replied winking at me
"What time is it?" I anxiously asked as walked near to where Green Day were playing. In the background I could hear them belting out a spectacular Novacaine.
"Err, quarter to six." The Doctor replied squinting at his watch in the darkness.
"Oh my god only fifteen more minutes." I breathed.
"Just promise me you wont do anything stupid. I'm going back to the Tardis." The doctor replied handing me another blank piece of paper.
"Why?"
"I hate these sort of things they give me headaches." He said.
"And the Tardis doesn't?" I asked sarcastically.
"No, now go on." He replied pushing me forward.
"What's this for?" I asked waving the piece of paper
"Backstage pass. You'll have the best view." Instantly, I knew he was on about Billie Joe getting shot.
He just merely smiled and walked off.
I stood there just watching. Watching and waiting , watching and waiting. Then I heard it. Billie Joe's last ever song. Wake Me Up When September Ends, he sang as if he knew it was his last ever song.
It finished, Mike and Tre walked of stage, and Billie Joe said thank you. Big mistake. I knew the gun fire was going to go off any minute. I couldn't let it happen. It sounds really stupid but I ran on stage and dived on him, knocking him to the floor. The gun shot whistled through the air and landed straight in Tre's drum kit.
Billie Joe just lay there breathing heavily from the shock. I quickly stood up.
"I'm sorry." I exclaimed and began to run off.
"Wait!" He shouted standing up. "You just saved my life."
"Err, yeah I know sorry." and with that I ran off.
Outside The Doctor was leant against the Tardis swinging the key around his finger.
"As it happened then?" He asked beginning to unlock the door.
"Not exactly... " I began to say but I was cut off.
"Wait!!" I heard Billie Joe shouting as he ran towards me.
"Don't tell me... " The Doctor started
"I saved him." I finished.
"I thought I told you not to do anything stupid." He said angrily watching Billie Joe run over.
"Come on it's not going to make that much difference is it?" I asked
"It's going to make all the difference!! There is a man alive in the world who shouldn't be." The Doctor said sounding even more angry.
"Come on we're going before he catches us." He said frantically trying to open the Tardis. I heard the lock click but what happened next surprised both of us.
The Tardis was just an ordinary Police Call Box. There was no great complicated machinery inside. It wasn't an time machine anymore just an ordinary Police Call Box.
"This is all your fault." The Doctor growled at me.
"Wait!" Billie Joe shouted but he was cut off short, cut off short by a murderous scream.
We all looked up and saw a huge dragon type thing hovering about above the Tardis.
"RUN!" The Doctor cried as the huge thing launched at us.
We all ran for our life.
"Get inside the arena!!"
We stood inside the arena, the only thing we could hear was our heavy breaths.
"Hey Billie Joe did you catch the bastard that tried to shoot you?" said an unaware Tre.
He looked up to see me, The Doctor and Billie Joe staring at the door.
Outside you could hear the creature scraping its huge clawed wings against the wall.
"What the fuck is that? Some mad fan?" Tre said jokingly.
"Oh much worse." The Doctor replied for him.
"What is it?" I asked
"A Time Reaper. Its come to sterilise the wound in time that you've made." He said looking at me angrily.
I hung my head in shame.
"Is he fucking pissed?" A rowdy Tre shouted over the banging of the Reaper.
"Well, Billie?"
Billie Joe just stood there breathing, he couldn't believe what he had just seen
"No." He replied eventually.
Outside the Reaper was ramming its head against the door with all its might.
"Why cant they get in?" I asked over the loud screeching.
"They will eventually, but we're are okay for the moment. The walls aren't that old so they wont hold forever."
"What the hell is going on? Some deranged idiot is trying to bang the walls in!" We all turned round to see Mike wandering out with a cup of tea in his hands.
"I hate to say mate but apparently this aint no fan!" Tre said sarcastically putting one arm around Mikes shoulder.
"I'm calling security." Mike replied nudging Tre off of him.
Then all that could be heard was a blood cudgelling scream from someone outside, the roar of a Reaper and the squelching as someone was torn limb from limb.
"I don't think securities gonna come Mike." Billie Joe said slowly turning away from the door to face Mike.
"You weren't lying were you?" Tre asked shakily turning towards The Doctor.
"No," He simply replied
"Anyway, who the hell is this?" Mike asked walking towards The Doctor,
"Yeah, who the hell are you?" Tre asked as well following Mike.
"The Doctor," He replied.
"Yeah but Doctor who?" Tre asked.
"Just The Doctor."
"The Doctor?"
"Yeah hello!"
"Right... ."
Another scream from the Reaper could be hear from outside.
"What are we going to do?" I asked staring at the door as I saw it move with mighty force of the Reaper.
"I don't," The Doctor replied
"What cant you save us?" Billie Joe asked as The Doctor went and sat on the stage.
"I'll try," He simply replied
We all just sat there in silence. We had been for the last twenty minutes. Just staring, thinking one thing and one thing only, we were all going to die. We kept hearing a bang like a gunshot but none knew were it was coming from.
Billie Joe was the most quiet. I think he had realised he was supposed to die, and I'd saved him and because he was alive all this had happened. I felt sorry for him as I just saw him staring into space. Finally he stood up and almost broke the silence. Everyone looked at him.
"Were are you going?" Tre asked looking up.
Billie Joe turned to look at me and smiled weakly.
"I know why this has happened," He said to me.
I didn't want tell him he was supposed to die, I couldn't even bear to think about telling him.
"You saved me when I should have died. Thank you."
Then suddenly I realised why we kept hearing the gun shot. The person that should have shot Billie Joe was in some sort of time trap. They keep reliving the same thing over and over again and they'd keep doing that until they shot him.
"No you cant!" I shouted suddenly standing up.
"I have to or everyone is going to die!" He croaked
"You don't have to do anything you don't want to." The Doctor replied standing up. Tre and Mike just sat there amazed, they didn't have a clue what we were going on about.
"Wait!" The Doctor said clicking his fingers.
"That's it!" He cried a smile beaming across his face.
"You go get yourself shot Billie Joe, but who said you had to die?" A smile suddenly appeared on everyone's face. The only reason Billie Joe had died the first time round was because no one called an ambulance.
With that Billie Joe slowly walked over to the centre of the stage. Right where the gunshot was going off, right were he should have died.
I ran over to The Doctor and quickly grabbed his hand, I just couldn't watch!
BANG!
Billie Joe fell to the floor.
Tre and Mike immediately ran over to their dying friend.
Suddenly a tremendous screech was heard outside. The Reapers where going! They where dying, disappearing. Billie Joe had saved us, he'd saved everyone.
Tre and Mike lifted Billie Joe off the floor.
"Were should we take him?" Mike cried
"Follow me!" The Doctor replied running to the doors. I ran straight after him with Tre, Mike and a wounded Billie Joe not far behind.
The Doctor was running towards the Tardis and when he got there he quickly unlocked the door.
"In here!" The Doctor cried becoming them over.
"What the fuck?" I heard Tre shout.
"Are you sure about showing them this?" I whispered
"Oh yeah, I'll take them forward in time about a week and then when they leave they'll forget all about it. We both walked inside waiting for the others to catch up.
Tre and Mike slumped Billie Joe down on a chair as he held a tie to his chest testate blood flow.
"How... ?" Mike began
"I'm sorry I haven't got time to explain this, but its called the Tardis that's T-A-R-D-I-S. That stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space."
"Right... " Mike mumbled.
"Are you all right?" I said running over to Billie Joe. He had gone pale and was breathing heavily.
"Hold on tight!" The Doctor cried as the Tardis began to make that horrible whooshing noise that made me feel sick.
"I will be when I get out of here!" Billie Joe replied weakly.
Finally it stopped and Tre, Mike and Billie Joe stared at The Doctor expectantly.
"Go on then, look outside." The Doctor said beaming at them.
Mike sheepishly open the creaky Tardis door, and to his amazement saw Billie Joes' house outside.
"Its Billie Joes'... " He trailed off staring at The Doctor who just smiled at him.
Tre and Mike quickly carried Billie Joe out of the Tardis. Then Billie Joe stood there staring at the hand which a few seconds ago was covered in his own blood.
"What will my wife think?" He asked amazingly fully recovered.
"She just thinks you had a night on the town!" The Doctor laughed
"So does she know about any of this?" He asked
"She just thinks you got shot, went to hospital and recovered." The Doctor replied.
Billie Joe walked over towards me and smiled.
"Thank you, what is your name I never asked?" He said.
"Hannah" I replied. He walked closer and kissed me on my forehead and put his once blood drenched tie, but now miraculously clean tie around me neck.
"Thanks again Hannah," He said again walking away.
I felt The Doctor put his hand on my shoulder as we watched them walk away. I just waved then turned to The Doctor.
"Will they remember any of this?" I asked looking up at him as he smiled and waved at them.
"Nope, as soon as we go they'll forget."
"Good." I replied.
"Were to next then?" He asked as we both walked inside.
"Err... ."
"So," The Doctor said beaming at me, somehow unaffected by the Tardis.
"We're here." He replied leaning against the confusing controls of the Tardis.
"I seriously can't understand why you want to come here.."
