Billie's Hidden Note, chapter 2
As she was driving away from the man she used to (and still might) love and the sons she'll be devoted to forever, she wondered where she was going. Without clothes or toiletries of any sort she couldn't go much of anyhere. She decided to go to Tre's. Even if Tre was supposedly "Billie's friend", she loved him as a friend loves a friend. She knew he'd understand. As she pulled into his driveway, she saw a smilimg Tre playing with his kids in their pool. She walked into the backyard and Tre saw her. He noticed the mascara streaming down her face and called to his kids, "Hey, I'll be right back." They took almost no notice and kept continuing their game.
He pulled Adie inside and asked, "What happened?" Adie responded, "Billie cheated on me with some whore and she practically begged him to leave me at the altar." From this she went on a rant completely, mercilessly insulting this woman of who she knew nothing about. Tre sat there listenig to the whole thing and didn't interrupt for anything except to nod or something like that.
When she was done Tre said, "Well I had no knowledge of this. Holy Crap, Adie I'm so sorry. You can stay here for a while. Claudia has some of her stuff here that I'm sure she wouldn't mind you wearing." Adie nodded yes, as Tre brought out a bathing suit that he offered to Adie. She took it and went to change in the bathroom. She came out climbed in the pool and began to play with Ramona and Frankito. She assumed Tre told them to not to ask questions before she got in.
After swimmimg and eating dinner, she began to wonder who that lady was. The slut that Billie cheated on her with. She was almost sure she had no enemies willing to destroy her marriage. From what she read in the letter, Adie guessed that she was much like herself. Billie always went out with the same kind of girl. That never bothered her until now, but Adie guessed that was normal. Tre knocked and walked in quietly. After a silence she said, "Tre, I want to find out who she is." Tre, after contemplating this a while, "Are you sure? If Billie hasn't talked about her for all this time, don't you think he's over her?" Adie wasn't sure what to think, but decided to go home tomorow and ask Billie who she was.
When she got home, the boys were at school and Billie was just sitting on the couch. He hadn't shaved or taken a shower and looked like he'd been crying. Adie walked in and sat down next to him. She quietly said after a short silence, "Who was she?" Billie, again thinking about his answer said, "Her name was Danielle. I met her on tour. She was one of the sound technicians at one of the clubs we played at. I was feeling lonely and she was on the rebound. We couldn't help ourselves." After seeing the tears in Adie's eyes, Billie tried to wipe them away, but she pulled away. After a silence that seemed to last forever, Adie found the courage to say, "I want to meet her."
Billie looked at her with pitiful eyes, deciding on what to say.
