Billie's Hidden Note, chapter 4
Adie began to feel queasy. She sensed that Danielle's intentions weren't "pure" and she began to feel threatened. If Danielle was going to try and steal Billie Joe from her, why should Adie be here? Adie's faith in her relationship with Billie began to falter. Billie wasn't immune to flattery and regressing through old memories. At times he could be sentimental and clingy. Would Billie realize his ultimate happiness with Danielle. Billie needed to realize that Adie was there.
Adie knew that Billie(like all men) was afraid of "womanly things". Billie, although he never declined, always felt uncomfortable about buying tampons or pads. She knew he went to the drug store, ran inside, got what he was there for and ran out. Adie knew she needed to play up her feminine side and her flirtatious side while Danielle was around. She would confront Billie after she left.
In the car, Danielle felt compelled to drive. Her reasoning although logical, was just an excuse to annoy Adie or rekindle her passion with Billie. She felt she had to drive becuase of something about "putting you guys out". Adie was forced to sit in the back, like a baby as Danielle and Billie reminisce about old friends or funny events. When they arrived at the restaurant, Adie and Billie took the seats next to each other. Adie sensed that Billie wasn't a complete idiot. He knew that she would be a little nervous and insecure.
Over dinner Adie was quiet. She was intent on watching Danielle's body language. Was she trying to get close Billie? Did she get to much pleasure out of touching Billie or hearing his laugh? Billie kept his hand on her thigh, ensuring her of his love, but she didn't feel to reassured. She felt threatened and when she saw Danielle go to the "Powder Room" she talked to Billie.
"Billie, she wants you back. She thinks that you love her. You don't, right?" Adie was rambling, but Billie understood her.
He responded, "Adie, Baby. I know she wants me back. I'm not an asshole. Who wouldn't want me back?" At that they both smiled. He continued, "I know that you don't like her. You've barely said anything all evening, but in an hour we'll both be at home and relaxing, With no Danielle."
Adie smiled and saw Danielle coming back. She took Billie hand and held it on the table. She swore she could've seen Danielle twitch at the sign of affection.
When dinner was over and everyone was sayinf their goodbyes. Adie went inside thinking that Billie would follow. She knew that Billie needed to tell Danielle what had happened. She looked through the peephole in the door, saw Danielle whisper something into Billie's ear, kiss him on the cheek, and Billie walk inside. He sat oon the couch and she sat in his lap. She asked, "What did she say?"
Billie, after comtemplating the night's events said, "She said that she never stopped loving me. She said she hates you and doesn't see why I chose you over her. Then she kissed me and left."
Adie, not seeing Billie's distress over Danielle's goodbye, got up and went upstairs to her bedroom. Billie saw the tears in her eyes followed her. "Baby, I love you. She doesn't have to understand. Okay? I love you and Joey and Jakob and her ignorance doesn't change that."
Adie looked at him and said,"Billie, I love you."
Billie silently held her and kissed her. She kissed back and he was surprised. He leaned back so that she was in top if him.
After a while their kisses were long, soulful, and intense. I'm gonna spare you the details of what actually happened. The remainder of the week went fine until next Saturday. While watching Joey and Jakob swimming in the pool. Adie began to feel dizzy. She told the boys she'd be right back and went to the bathroom. She walked out of the bathroom feeling as if she vomited the country of England. She still didn't feel good and called Bille. He came rushing home. After telling the boys to take showers and get ready for dinner, he picked Adie up and carried her to the couch. He was taking her temperature when he dropped the thermometer and said," Adie, do you remember if we used protection when we..... uhh expressed pur love to each other." She thought about it and solemnly shook her head. She started to cry into Billie's shoulder.
Billie consoled her until the boys came downstairs. They too cried out of sympathy for their mother.
