Loser. Weirdo. Faggot., chapter 10

Billie woke up to the sound of the doorbell. A week had passed since he saw Adrienne again. It was amazing how close two people could become in a small amount of time. He slowly wormed his way to the front door, still not awake. It was her.

"Hey Billie." Adrienne smiled at him. She was the only one who called him Billie, but he didn't mind. He welcomed her in, but she refused. "I just came to say goodbye," She looked down at her shoes. Billie felt something drop in his stomach. He had nearly forgotten that she was visiting. He tried to stutter something, but nothing came.

"I'll still be around for most of the day, but in case I didn't see you... " Adrienne trailed off. "Thanks a lot for showing me around Oakland." Billie shook his head. 'What a fucking moron', he thought to himself. She had a boyfriend. She had a life. She had other friends.

"Well," Billie noticed the strain in her voice. She was sad too. They would never see each other again. "Goodbye." She pulled him into a hug, something one sibling would give another, and stepped out of the doorframe. Billie watched her get into her car. He smiled and waved back, although he felt like doing anything but. She was gone.

His insides squirmed. He was such a wimp. He didn't even try to make her stay. Even for a few minutes. And now she left, just like that. He had only stuck around to see her there. Peachy fucking Keen. Back to square one.

Billie hadn't talked to Tre since that day over at Mike's house, but he was confident now. He had nothing to lose. If he was going to skip town, what would his last few days matter? He wouldn't have to deal with school. Popularity. Homework. It all was just one big ass illusion, and he could pass the rest of it entirely. He found himself walking towards Mike's. Tre was bound to be there.

He was right. Billie didn't even knock on the door as he entered, just walked in. Mike was like his brother. They shared everything. Food, clothes, drugs, answers to tests. They were in it together. Now the least he could do was tell Mike he was leaving.

He was sitting down on the couch, watching some T. V. show. Billie heard a faint knock, and then a clatter of things crashing somewhere upstairs. Tre. Mike turned his head to look at Billie. His face lightened up.

"Bill! Hell, man. Where were you? We saw you with that one chick. You didn't even fucking return the calls I sent you. What happened with you two?" He sat up. "She's gone. She's leaving today." Suddenly Billie's shoes became interesting. He wouldn't look at Mike.

"Wow, Bill. You really do have the shittiest love life ever." Billie smiled. "Is Tre mad?" He plopped down on the couch next to Mike. He was a little uneasy.

"Well, he's Tre. He's probably forgotten about the whole thing by now." Mike yelled up to him. Tre immediately came scampering down, holding a broom in one hand, and a lampshade topping his head. He met eyes with Billie.

The room went perfectly silent, as the grin began fading from Tre's face. Billie immediately sat up. Tre looked helpless. He could always get away with things, no matter how crude or harsh. He had a certain innocence about him that could let him get away with murder. He was always messing around with people's heads. But it never seemed to bring people down. It was time for Billie to mess with him back.

"We okay man?" Billie asked, standing a little ways back. Tre's eyes studied him back. Was he serious? Tre decided to take the risk. He lifted a hand out for Billie to shake, but Billie pushed it away, looking extremely annoyed. Tre knew it. He wanted to see if things were alright. But he didn't want to be friends.

Billie enveloped him in a tight hug. "If we're friends, I'm not excepting a fucking handshake. Welcome to the club." Tre's smile lifted back up on his face. Things were gonna be alright. At least, for him.

"We're going to get back your girl, Bill," He replied, laughing.
