A Fan, A Friend., chapter 1

August 12th-2005.
The doorbell rang.
Someone will get the door, Zack thought.
Zack lay in his bed, trying to breathe. Months ago, he had been diagnosed with the deadly West Nile Virus. He was told his immune system wasn't strong enough for him to fight the sickness.
The Virus made it hard for him to breathe and move around. He would always feel ice cold, whether it were a hundred degrees in his room.
He heard the front door click open, as well as his father's voice.
"Welcome, come on in."
This time, he heard an unfamiliar voice, female.
"Thank you. Where is he, the poor child?"
They must be talking about me, he summed up.
"I'll take you to him. Follow me."
The sound of footsteps could be heard, marching across the house up to Zack's room. The footsteps stopped. A man knocked on Zack's door.
"Zack? Are you awake?" His father's voice came from the other side of the door.
Zack slowly rose from his bed, making his way to the door. He slowly turned the knob, pulled the door back, revealing his tall father, and a woman with short, blond hair, a pearl necklace around her neck, and a blue T-shirt reading in gold letters, "Make a Wish."
"Zack, this woman is here to see you. Can she come in?" His father asked.
Zack stepped to the side and beckoned the two into his room. The woman shook Zack's hand, noticing all of the Stratocaster, books, Green Day posters and other things scattered across his room. She turned to Zack.
"Hello, Zack. We're really sorry to hear about your condition," the woman spoke with a sad smile.
Zack turned to her.
"Hello. I don't want to be rude... But who are you?" He asked skeptically.
The woman pointed to the logo on her T-shirt.
"My name is Julie Bosnich. I'm from an organization called 'Make A Wish. ' We find kids who are... Well... Dying and we try to cheer them up," she informed, as if that explained everything.
Zack raised an eyebrow.
"I'm guessing you ask the kids what they want more than anything in the world... And somehow, you grant that wish." Julie nodded.
"I can tell that you really like music, especially Green Day. You want to meet them?" She asked casually.
Zack raised another eyebrow.
This has to be a joke. They usually don't do this to kids who are over 14. Well... I'll play along.
"More than anything. I love Green Day," Zack replied. This was actually true. Billie Joe Armstrong was his idol. Julie took out a blue notepad, bearing the "Make A Wish" logo on the front.
She scribbled something in the notepad, then closed it and put it in her pocket.
"Okay, Zack. I'll see what I can do. Hope you feel better soon."
With that, Zack's father led Julie out of his room. Zack shut the door and fell back on his bed.
"This has to be some type of joke. Dad wouldn't do this much for me," he said to himself.

August 19-2005.
Zack and I sat in the kitchen, watching music videos on VH1. We were talking about all of our favorite bands, and Zack's band.
Zack was a great guitar player, and he had an amazing voice. (I still write for the band. ) We were trying to get inspired for new material, watching videos. The doorbell rang. Zack lay on the couch, trying to rest. The virus had worsened in that short week. Now his legs would give out on him if he'd walk more than about 20 feet. A wheelchair was parked next to his couch.
"Nick, could you get that?"
I rose silently and made my way to the foyer, out of the kitchen. I swung the door open.
Once I saw who stood in front of me, my mouth dropped. My heart skipped a beat. My whole body froze.
I couldn't believe who it was. Right on my doorstep stood Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool.
I was still in shock.
"Hi, is this the residence of Zack Scale?" Billie Joe asked me, smiling. His hair was jet black. He was clad in an Adeline track shirt. I slowly regained my voice.
"H-h-hold on a second," I mustered.
I turned my head facing the kitchen, and then yelled, my voice squeaking from excitement and surprise, "ZACK! GET OVER HERE! YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE WHO'S HERE!"
