The Best, Yet Worst Summer Ever, chapter 3
...pregnant.
"I...I'm pregnant," Dani said in a nervous voice.
"You know what this means, do you?" Her mother added to break the silence after Dani told them, "We have to turn the spare bedroom into a nursery. We have tons of things we need to buy! A crib, diapers. We need a baby shower!"
"But most of all, you need to tell that...guy that he is going to be a father and whether he likes it or not, we're nailing his ass for CHILD SUPPORT! Even if we have to take him to court!" Her father added.
Dani walked into the kitchen and sat down at the kitchen table and put her hand over her lower stomach. "I'll tell him... but... Mom, I think we can wait on the baby shower... I mean, I just found out I'm pregnant."
"You know...there's still a chance that you're not pregnant...pregancy tests aren't always accurate. Maybe you should go to the doctor's first...just to be sure." It was Jill who spoke this time.
"Jill's right. I'll go make an appointment in the morning. I need to go to bed. I am very tired." Dani stood up and went upstairs.
She layed down in her bed and felt tears pouring out of her eyes. Why bother going to the doctor's? She knew in her heart that she was just 9 months away from bringing a child into the world. She slowly drifted off to sleep.
Dani dreamed about sitting in a hospital bed...waiting. Then a nurse comes in. Holding a blanket. "Here she is." The nurse handed the baby over to Dani. Dani pulled the blanket back and there she was...a beautiful baby girl.
Dani suddenly awoke. Her baby was gone. She was in her own bedroom. She walked downstairs. "I already took care of scheduling your appointment." Her mother walked by with a coffee in her hand.
Dani ran back upstairs and threw up in the toilet. Just the scent of coffee made her sick. She returned into the kitchen. "When is it?" She asked.
"10:00 in the morning." Her mother sipped her coffee. "You should get ready. I'll give you a ride."
Dani went upstairs and took a quick shower. She went back downstairs. "Ready to go?" Her mother was waiting by the front door.
"Yes..." And Dani and her mother drove to the doctors.
"We should have the results within a few days," Dr. Seamus said as she walked out of the examination room.
A few days later...Dani hears the phone ring. She races to it and answers it. It's Jill. "Hey Dani...well...are you?"
"I don't know yet...they haven't called yet....hold on, someones just calling in right now."
"Maybe it's them!" Jill said then Dani switched to the other caller.
"Hello?"
"Hello, Dani? I have the results of your pregnancy test." It was Dr. Seamus.
"Yeah...and...am I?"
"Dani... you are pregnant." Dr. Seamus came out and said it.
"I knew it! I knew it! I gotta go, sorry bye!" She hung up and went back to her conversation with Jill.
"It was Dr. Seamus. I am pregnant."
"Well...Jake is over...he's visiting my brother. Maybe you should come over. It might be one your chances to confront him about it."
"Yeah...I guess. I wonder how he'll react."
"Don't worry about it. Just come over."
