Broken Hearts, Torn up letters, and the Story of a Lonely Girl., chapter 4

They started far off...
But they resound,
As sharp as they sound.
You can't mistake the sound.
First the click,
Then the invisible breath.
Both parting the biting cold of the night.
The came.
They come in time...

...

We drove to the mall in almost complete silence. Well, except for Tre humming "Barbie Girl". I just loved how he was. How he could be himself and not care who sees. It's just so... Amazing. I guess you can put it in that terms, but he's just so... I don't know.

I was knocked out of thought when I went flying forward, getting caught by the seatbelt. I sat back, eyes wide and looked at Tre. He gave me the retarded smile and I laughed a little. I unbuckled my seatbelt.

"Scare ya?" Tre asked, unbuckling his seatbelt and climbing out, smiling.
"No. I was just thinking." I said, climbing out myself, shutting the door, and walking over to him.
"Sure. That's what you want me to think." Tre said, locking the SUV and we started walking.
"Oh yea Tre, I would so lie to you about being scared and now I'm going to murder you." I said. He chuckled.
"Hey, it could happen." Tre said. I laughed.
"Alright, let's go. We got a half an hour." I said and we walked into the mall.
"Damn. It's quiet." Tre said.
"Well duh. It's the Bon Ton. Nobody comes in here." I said. He laughed and we walked out and into the main section of the mall.
"Where to?" Tre asked.
"I don't know. I don't get out much." I said. Tre looked at me. He grabbed my hand.
"Come on." He said, pulling me along.

He pulled me into some store with a whole bunch of girly clothes. I looked around in disgust. Tre sighed and rolled his eyes.

"Don't worry; you won't catch the girly sickness." Tre said.
"Well, couldn't we go somewhere else? I don't like this place." I said, standing at the front of the store. Tre started at me.
"Fine there. Where do you want to go?" He asked.
"I don't know. I'm barely ever here. I could get lost in this place." I said. He laughed, grabbed my hand and he pulled me out.
"Hmm let's see. Where can we go?" Tre said, poking at his chin and talking to himself.
"Hot topic?" I asked, saying the only store I knew.
"Yea, let's see what we can find there." Tre said, almost dragging me.

We went in and Tre was looking around at anything. Tre was picking up anything he liked and handing some shit to me.

"Tre, what the fuck are you doing? ' I asked.
"You'll see." He said, picking up more stuff as the lady came over.
"You guys need help?" she asked.
"Yea, we need the changing room thing." Tre said, facing her.
"Alright." The lady said, walking away and unlocking a changing room for me. Tre walked over and put all the stuff inside, still going over and getting more.
"Go." Tre said, pushing me into the changing room.
"What am I trying on?" I asked.
"Use intuition or whatever women have and pick something out." Tre said, closing the door, and walking away. I sighed and sat on the bench type thing, looking at all the clothes he picked out. I tried on a whole bunch of stuff but I didn't like the way any of them looked on me. I'm just self-conscious like that and I was too afraid to walk out there in front of Tre.

I finally picked a red and black plaid mini skirt with black footless stockings with pink skulls on them. I decided on a black lace-up cami shirt. Kinda like a tank top if you didn't know. I guess I looked pretty good. I looked at myself in the mirror. I pushed my hair out of my face and sighed.

"I guess this is alright." I mumbled to myself. I slipped on my penguin shoes again, and prepared myself to go out. I took a deep breath and opened the door, stepping out. Tre was sitting there and then looked over at me. He just stared at me.
"Umm... Wow." Tre said.
"That bad, huh?" I asked.
"No. No, not at all. You...you look great." Tre said, walking over to me. I smiled.
"Really?" I asked.
"Seriously." He said, looking at my outfit.
"You sure? You're not just lying to me to make me feel better?" I asked. He stared at me like I was insane.
"Look at this face. Would I lie to you?" Tre said. I laughed.
"No, but are you sure?" I asked. He rolled his eyes.
"Yes. Now shut up and take it off." He said.
"Fine." I said. I went into the changing room and changed back into my work clothes. I started looking at the prices of all the stuff I picked out.

"Come on lady, we got 15 minutes left." Tre said through the door. I slipped my shoes on and stepped out.
"You know this is gonna cost you like almost $100?" I asked.
"And..." He said like it was no big deal.
"You're not buying it for me." I said.
"Yes I am." Tre said back.
"No you're not." We started arguing like little kids.
"Yes I am, and you're going to shut up and take it." Tre said, taking the stuff and running to the counter.
"GRAWR! Tre!" I said and ran after him. I stopped when the lady was staring at me and Tre was doing the retarded smiled as she rung up the stuff. I sighed and crossed my arms across my chest. Tre paid for it, took the bag and my hand, pulling me out.

"Oh, come on. Please don't be mad." Tre said. I looked at him, and sighed.
"Tre, you didn't have to pay for all this." I said.
"I wanted to." He said.
"Fine then. I'll have to pay you back." I said.
"No. Don't. I'm not taking your money." He said.
"See, now you know how I feel." I said. He stuck out his tongue and I smiled.
"Come on; let's get you back to work." Tre said, taking my hand again. This time he wasn't dragging me. I was actually holding his hand. I know that sounds so gross and mushy but who cares? It's Tre Cool.

He drove me back to work and gave me the bag. I smiled and said bye to him. I walked back inside all happy and smiley. I put my stuff under the front desk, and took my seat. Corey came walking out and smiled.

"Hey. How'd it go?" He asked.
"Very good actually." I said.
"Like it would be bad?" Corey said. I laughed.
"Well, I got mad at him for paying for all of it." I said.
"Why? I'd enjoy it. Not spending money." Corey said.
"Well, you know how I am." I said.
"Yea." Corey said.

I finished off my work hours and was going to close up shop but Corey and Jakob were still here, cleaning the place so I just left them. I drove home smiling and ran up to my room. I burst through the door with me stuff and closed the door, locking it.

I kicked off my shoes, put on some music and skipped to the bathroom. I got changed into my new clothes. I fixed my hair just how I liked it and put that stupid Hello Kitty barrette in it to keep my hair out of my eye. I took off my smudged eyeliner and put new eyeliner on, actually making it look good. I put some pink eye shadow on and tried to make my earrings not look so intimidating. I got on short ankle socks, and put my penguin shoes on. They were basically the only shoes I had. I found a necklace that my mom gave me and decided to wear it anyway.

I finally got finished and looked at myself in the mirror. I looked good. Wow. I actually liked how I looked. I skipped around the house, singing with the music.

" I'm sick of watching my mouth.
With everybody looking at me.
I'm sick of wasting my time.
This city offers nothing for me.
No good for me,
No good for you.
I'll walk away
You see it through.
Don't' turn your back,
It's not alright.
We're out tonight,
But you want to see the world through bloodshot eyes.
And you can't decide who's on your side.
EVERYBODY'S SCREAMING!
" I was singing until a knock on the door scared me and made me trip, sending me flying to the ground.

"Awwwww shit." I said, getting up and rubbing my chin. "Be right there!" I shouted, running to the bathroom and brushing my teeth real quick. I spat, rinsed, threw my toothbrush back, and then ran to the door. I looked at myself in the mirror by the door and fixed my hair. I finally opened the door to see a smiling Tre.

"Well hello there." Tre said. I smiled.
"Hi."
"Ready?" He asked.
"Yep." I said. I grabbed my cell off the side table and left with Tre, locking my door. We walked down the steps, talking randomly.

Tre had his hair up like normal and still had eyeliner on. He didn't care. He was wearing a short sleeve button up shirt with a black tie that had little smiley faces all over them. He had black pants on and still had his studded belt, wearing his slip-on Vans too.

We got to Tre's car and he opened my door for me. I smiled and climbed in. He slammed the door and skipped over to his door. He opened it up and jumped in, closing the door behind him. He started up the car and sped out of the parking lot, turning on the radio.

"You better pay attention to the road." I said, he pulled away from the radio and smirked at me, then looking at the road.
"Scared?" Tre asked, still smirking.
"No." I said, looking out the window.
"Sure." Tre said sarcastically.
"Shut up." I said playfully and smiled.
"So... Was that you singing?" He said and took a glance at me.
"Maybe. Why?" I asked.
"It was good." Tre said.
"No it wasn't, you liar." I said, once again putting myself down. He glanced at me with a serious stare.
"Shut up. Stop doubting yourself and putting yourself down. You're a nice girl and you're too young to even be thinking about that. Now when you're like 72, that's a different story. You'll be all old and shit. Stop taking time to put yourself down and go have fun. Be yourself and don't give two shits about other people. They don't matter. The only thing that matters is how you feel about yourself." Tre said, taking glances at me and then the road. I smiled. I couldn't say anything.

"You know. For someone who is so filled with energy and for someone who acts like a retarded kid, you got your way with words." I said.
"Yes, I've noticed." Tre said, looking at me with the retarded smile on again. I laughed.

Tre pulled into the parking lot, climbed out, slammed his door, ran over to my door and opened it up. I laughed at him and climbed out. He took my hand and we walked inside. It wasn't too fancy, but it wasn't like MacDonald's either. It was a pretty nice place. It wasn't too loud and it didn't have too many people in it where you would have to wait in line for the bathroom.

Tre got us our table and we sat down. The lady gave us our menus and glasses of water.

"Hi. I'm Mandie and I'll be your waitress for tonight. May I get you something to drink?" Mandie asked. Obviously a fake smile on.
"Yea sure. Ummmmmmm. Margaritas. What kind you got?" Tre asked, not even remotely noticing the girl.
"Well this has all the drinks on it." The girl said, pointing at some thing at the end of the table.
"Oh right. Give me a minute." Tre said.
"Alright." The girl faked a smile and walked off. When she was out of earshot, I started laughing.
"What?" Tre asked, looking up from the thing-a-ma-jig.
"You're such an asshole." I said, smiling.
"I know. I'm supposed to be. When I'm on a date with a pretty girl, I don't flirt with other girls." Tre said, looking back at the menu thing. I shook my head and smiled, looking back down at my menu.

A few minutes later Mandie came back and Tre continued to ignore her constant flirting and be an asshole to her. It was so hard not to burst out laughing in front of her.

"So what would you like sir?" she asked Tre once again.
"Me and the lady will take this big thing." Tre said pointing to a picture of a drink that I couldn't see. I stared at Tre.
"What flavor?" The lady asked. Yes, I still call her the lady even though I know her name.
"Watermelon." Tre said. I still stared at him.
"Alright. I'll be right back with your drinks." She said and did that cheap fake smile that I hated. She then walked away. Tre put the little menu thing down and looked at me, feeling my piercing stare.
"What? Relax, you'll like it." Tre said.
"Whoa wait. What the fuuuuu-"I stopped saying fuck because some people were looking at us. I fake smiled at them and continued.

"What did you just do?" I asked.
"Oh nothing." Tre said, smiling. We both glanced at the little menu and then back at each other. He grabbed it first before I could even move my hand over there. He stuck his tongue out at me.
"Jerk. Give it." I said, holding out my hand.
"What? This?" He asked and then stood up. I cocked an eyebrow and then realized what he was doing.
"Don't you dare." I said. He smirked at me and sat back down with the menu thing.
"Well, I'm not gonna do that but..." Tre said.
"What?" Before he could say anything, Tre stuck the menu thing under his butt. Then he gave me the retarded smile.
"You want it so bad? Come and get it." Tre smirked.
"Not worth it." I said, smirking right back at him.
"Bitch." Tre said playfully, still smirking.

The lady came out with two huge drinks and I almost died. She set them down on our table and I just stared at it. She took our orders. I got salad and Tre got some ravioli thing. The lady walked away with our orders and Tre smiled at me.

"So Amanda...tell me more about yourself." Tre said, taking a sip of his drink.
"What's there to tell?" I asked, not even thinking about the words slipping out of my mouth.
"Everything. Childhood. Parents. Foods. All that good shit." Tre said.
"I thought I told you everything at Billie's house." I said, taking a sip of my drink. Tre rolled his eyes.
"I want details." Tre said and smirked again. I sighed.
"Fine. What else do you want to know?" I asked.
"Tattoos. You got any? If not, ever though about one? And if so, let me see." He said. I sighed.
"Yes, I do have one. Actually two. I've though about getting others, and why should I?" I asked.
"Because you love me." Tre did the retarded smile.
"I'll show you later, alright." I said.
"Sure, but tell me what's it look like?" Tre asked.
"Well I got this really stupid one that's by my hip but you can't see it because it's past my pant line." I said. Tre cocked an eyebrow and smirked.
"What is it?" He asked.
"It's that little dude from Invader Zim, Gir. He's hugging a pig." I said. Tre laughed and took another sip of his drink.
"That's a good one. What else?" He asked.
"And I got like one of those tribal type things on my lower back but it's got skulls and nautical stars on it. It's better than it sounds." I said.
"What color stars?" He asked.
"Pink and black." I said.
"Mmmmm I see." Tre said.

The lady came back with our food, fake smiled, and left. God damn how I hated that fake smile.

"So what about your love life?" Tre asked. I almost spat margarita all over him, but managed to keep it down and almost choke. I finally said something.
"What?" I asked.
"Boyfriends and all that good stuff." Tre said, starting to eat like that question was like asking me if I wanted a cookie.
"I really haven't had too many if that's what you're asking. I'm not found attractive." I said. Tre looked up at me.
"You're kidding." Tre said.

We kept talking and eating at the same time. After the subject about boyfriends, I really wasn't hungry anymore. So I just picked at my food, taking bites here and there.

We finally finished and continued talking while waiting for Mandie to get our bill.

"Hey, I wanna take you somewhere after this." Tre said.
"Where? You know you don't have to." I said.
"You'll see. I want to." Tre said and smiled.

Tre paid for the check and we both got up. Tre was looking for the little menu thing that he'd been sitting on. I started laughing.

"What?" He asked, looking at me.
"Tre, it's on your ass." I said, laughing a bit.
"Where?!" Tre said, trying to look at his ass.
"Let me get it. Hold still." I said. He stood still while I peeled off the menu and threw it on the table. We shared a few laughs and headed out.

We got in the SUV and Tre drove out of the parking lot. We finally got to a empty parking lot up some old dirt road. Tre got out and let me out again.

"Where are we?" I asked.
"Don't worry about that. Just follow me." He said. The place was a bit creepy. Like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre creepy. Tre took my hand and led me through a path. I was keeping my eyes open for some little boy with bad teeth or some guy with a fake face and a chainsaw.

We finally got out of the path and I sighed. I'M ALIVE! Anyway, I stopped and Tre stopped, still holding onto my hand.

"Oh wow Tre." I said.
'Pretty, huh?" Tre said.
"Ya." I said.

It was a hidden beach. There was a little island outwards and the sun was setting behind it. Tre pulled me and brought me to a giant rock. We both sat down and watched the sunset. The sun finally went down and there was nothing but a cool breeze running through our hair. Tre looked over at me. I pretended not to notice.

"So...what about those tattoos?" He asked, smiling. I looked over at him and smiled. I got up and showed him the one on my lower back, and then my Gir one. No, I didn't take off my shirt. So bleh. Bubbles.

"I guess I should get you home." Tre said, taking my hand and bringing back through the path. Once again I looked for a guy with a fake face and a big scary chainsaw. We finally got to Tre's car and got in. I'M STILL ALIVE! Tre brought me home and walked me up to my room. We said our goodnights and I hugged him. He left and I got changed and went to bed. I didn't have work for a couple of weeks so Ian, Corey, and Jakob could take care of everything.
