Bleeding Hearts, chapter 13
"Billie Joe!" Mike yelled through the letterbox of Billie's house.
"Dad aint in at the moment. Him and mum went shopping. You can come in and wait." Joey said flatly as he pulled the door open.
Mike stood up to his full height and gave Joey an edgy look. He had never trusted that kid. He didn't say a lot and Mike had learnt in his 34 years on this planet we call earth not to trust quiet people. It either means they don't like you and won't talk to you or they have something to hide. Joey had always been quite depressed. Ever since Adie's dad had died a couple of years back. Him and Joey had been really close and then after that Joey just shut off. If he had to he could talk so much that you just wanted to shoot him. But that was in front of cameras. At home he rarely left his room.
Mike edged past him and into the house. "Thank you Joey."
He walked into the living room and sat down. Joey placed himself into an armchair on the other side of the room and started reading a book. After about two minuets of him reading and Mike making sure he didn't make any sudden movement Joey suddenly said some thing. "What?" He asked and threw his book down. This took Mike by surprise and he jumped out his seat.
"W-What do you m-mean what?" He stuttered as he sat back down.
"What do you want? Whenever it is just you and I in the room you are really jumpy. I'm not about to brutally murder you or anything." His voice was plain and with no emotion but his eyes said everything.
Mike took a deep breath. "What have you got to hide?"
He eyes seemed to disappear. Not literally of course but it was as if they were cowering and didn't want to continue the conversation but the rest of his body stood strong still. "I don't know what you mean. I have nothing to hide. What makes you say that?"
Mike tilted his head to one side. "Your heart says that you have something to hide. What is it?"
"Nothing." He snapped. "Honestly it is nothing. I don't need you asking me this because it is nothing."
Mike smirked. "You obviously do because if you didn't then you wouldn't be trying so hard to tell me that you have nothing to hide because you actually don't and don't need to make such a point." He paused. "Did that make any sense?"
Joey nodded. "But I actually don't have anything. I am an open book."
Mike shook his head. He pointed t the book that Joey had thrown down. It had landed open on page. "That is an open book... You are a closed little boy. You don't share your emotions. When you do talk it has no compassion in your words and you don't speak of important stuff to you. It is all about other people and when they try to talk about their feelings you will usually steer well clear. What is your problem?"
He bit his lip and blinked a couple of times. "I have to many problems to share with anyone. If I share one then I will have to tell them all the rest. That is my problem."
Mike shrugged. "Tell me them then."
Joey gave him a look of pain and opened his mouth to say when Billie Joe walked into the room.
"Hey guys. What ya doing?" He asked cheerfully.
Joey sighed and stormed out the room.
"What did I do?" He said scandalized.
Mike shook his head and rolled his eyes. "He was about to tell me why he was so depressed."
"Oh." Billie Joe sat down next to him. "Why are you here then?"
Mike shrugged. "Dunno really. Tre was asleep and my girlfriend is at her sisters house so I have no one to talk to."
Billie Joe nodded. "I get it. So I was your last resort. You had to stoop to my levels. I feel sorry for you." He got up and headed into the kitchen. "You want something to drink?" He asked.
Mike shook his head. "Nah. I'm not thirsty. I could do with something to eat though."
Billie Joe laughed slightly. "I'm not feeding you. You know how long it took me to find something for you to eat last time. Why do you have to be vegan? None of us can give you food."
Mike smiled. "I feel guilty if I eat anything from animals. They are all going to get killed after a while and the blood will be on my hand and I don't want that."
Billie Joe sat at the table and opened a can of beer. "I suppose." He drummed his fingers on the work surface trying to think of something to talk about but Mike thinking of something first saved him.
"Are you gunna talk to Tre? His daughter died for god sake. He had a right to be depressed."
Billie Joe gave him a 'you-really-do-fall-into-these-kind-of-things' look and sighed. "I lost my dad. But I wasn't allowed to be depressed."
"He only had her for a day."
"I had him for all my life. I got to know him better and then it hurt more when he left. He barely had her in his life at all so he didn't get to know her and didn't know what it was like living with her and therefore didn't know how hard it was with out her."
Mike looked confused and shrugged. "I suppose so." He twiddled his thumbs. Now he did want a drink. "But you know partly how it feels so you have to cut him some slack. It must be hard. Maybe he is thinking about all the stuff that he could of done."
Billie Joe let his shoulders droop and just rested on his elbows with his face in his hands. "I will. Not yet. I wont go to see him in the hospital but he is one of my best friends. I can't stay mad at him."
Mike smiled. "That's the spirit."
Billie Joe let out a slight laugh as Mike winked cheesily and held his thumbs up.
