The Chosen One, chapter 1
Once upon a time...no, this isn't a children's fairy tale. This is my story; I wrote it.
Billie Joe was walking around his neighborhood. He was a few yards away from his house when he heard sirens in the distance.
"Oh great," he thought. "A police chase. Better get home fast." He started running. He looked back to see where the car and the cops chasing it were. Next thing he knew, he was on the ground. He had run into a streetlamp. He saw a young girl appear over him. She was wearing a long, purple cloak, and was wearing a black hat.
"Don't worry" the girl said. "You'll be home soon enough." Then, everything went dark.
When he woke up, he was on his couch. When he sat up, he saw the girl standing in front of him.
"Wh-who are you?" he asked.
"Well, for starters, I'm the girl who saved you saved you," she said smugly.
"What do you mean 'saved'?" Billie asked.
"The car the cops were chasing hit the streetlamp you ran into," the girl explained. "If you were still lying there, you'd be dead right now."
"Oh. So, how'd you get me in here?" he asked.
"I have my ways" the girl said, then she disappeared. She then reappeared next to Billie.
"How'd you do that" Billie asked, startled by the girl's reappearance.
"What, teleportation? It's such a complicated process that I don't even know how it works! All I know is, its one of my special abilities." she explained.
"'One of' as in you can do more than that?!" Billie asked. Then, he heard footsteps coming up the steps; Adie and the boys were home.
"My wife's home. You better-" He turned and the girl was gone. Just then, Adie walked in the door, followed closely by Joey and Jakob.
"You okay?" she asked. "It looks like you've seen a ghost."
I'm fine, I think." Billie said, then told Adie what had happened to him.
"You were probably dreaming." Adie commented after he was finished.
"If I was dreaming, then how come I wasn't asleep when you got home?" Billie retorted.
"Good point. If she was here before I got home, then where is she now?" Adie wondered.
"Right behind you." said a familiar voice. They turned around. The girl was standing behind them.
"Is that here?" Adie asked.
Billie nodded.
"I figured you'd tell your wife about me." the girl said.
"What do you want?" Billie and Adie asked in unison.
"All I need is a little bit of your time." the girl stated. "I have something important to tell you."
Just then, Joey and Jakob burst into the room. "Mommy, daddy! There's a huge monster outside!" Jakob said excitedly.
"It's not a monster, it's a dragon." Joey stated. The girl's eyes widened with fear.
"Oh no!" she said. "He's here!" Then she ran out the front door.
"Adie, stay here with the kids." Billie told his wife, then he followed the girl outside. When he got outside, he saw what Joey and Jakob saw. A huge, jet-black dragon with red eyes was standing in the roadway. The girl was standing in front of it.
"Well, Justine, we meet again." the dragon said.
"What are you doing here, Onyx?" Justine demanded.
"The same reason you are." Onyx responded, then looked at Billie. Justine followed his gaze. A shocked expression came over her face.
"What do you want with him?!" she demanded.
"Why should I tell you?" Onyx asked then started walking towards Billie. Justine jumped in front of him, sword drawn.
"If you want him, you're going to have to go through me!" she yelled defiantly.
