Tripping Over Drum Sets, chapter 19
*Tre's View still*
I sat up straight in bed in a cold sweat, panting like I had just been running a marathon. I looked around the room. I jumped out of bed and went to the bathroom. I'd been like this ever since I first saw Saidi in the hospital after the accident. She was in a coma for about 5 days now. It was about 8 in the morning and I decided I would wake the guys up and visit her today, hoping that she would wake up while we were there.
*Saidi's View*
When I woke up, I saw 4 familiar faces. Billie Joe, Mike, Tre, and Adi. Adi burst into tears at the sight of me stirring. I looked down at my shoulder. It was all cast up and I had a bandage on my head too.
"Oh my God! Saidi! You're alive!" she said as she burst into tears. She had toleave the room she was crying so much.
"I can't remember what happened today." I said. "It's just.. black. And I can't see out of my right eye."
"Saidi, you got hit by a semi. We're surprised you lived, let alone remember stuff." said Billie Joe.
"Hit by a semi? Wait, I remember a horn, and a pain in the right side of my head." I said.
"They were afraid that you had a concussion, which you do, but they were afraid that blood vessels in your brain burst or something," said Mike.
"Is that why I have this bandage thingy on my head?" I asked. Tre nodded.
"I came in here to visit you and say good bye because I thought you were gonna die soon," he said. The doctor walked in just then.
"Well, it's good to know that you're alive," he said.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Well, you've been in a coma for 5 days now. A semi hit you, and from the look of your injuries, we think that the semi just clipped you. It hit your shoulder and a bit of your head and hip. Your shoulder is shattered in 5 different places, so it's all cast up. We were also afraid that blood vessels in your brain were burst, but thank goodness they were. You have a slight concussion. We would like to keep running more tests on you for the next week or two, so this is your new home for a while." he said reading through a list of papers. Wow. That was a close one.
"She lived because her head is hard! Isn't that right Saidi!" said Billie Joe tauntingly.
"I can't see out of my right eye. And I don't remember what happened yesterday. It's just black. It's not a blur, it's black." I said to the doctor, ignoring Billie Joe's remark.
"Your eye should clear up soon. And your memory either comes back or it doesn't. If it does, it will come back in chunks. That's all I can tell until the tests are complete." he said as he left the room.
"At least it was only one day that I can't remember." I said lying my head down. "Better then my entire life. In which case I would ask you to kill me."
"Saidi!" came a voice. I looked up and there was Nick and Maria in the door way.
"I think we'd better go now." said Tre a little sadly. They all got up and gave a me a kiss and told me to get well soon. Nick ran to my bedside, as did Maria.
"Are you okay?" they asked. I nodded and told them everything.
"So you don't remember yesterday? At all?" asked Maria. I shook my head and then stopped because it hurt. Nick and Maria let out a sigh of relief. "What?"
"Nothing," they said quickly. I lied down. Then a nurse came in.
"Visiting hours are over now. Please leave," she said. Maria and Nick left the room and I was all by myself once again. I lied my head down and fell asleep.

Over the next week and a half, Billie Joe, Mike, Adi, and Tre visited me almost everyday to see how I was doing. Nick visited me almost every day too. He explained that Maria had to go to Texas for a while because her great-aunt's birthday was being celebrated.

"Well, you're free." said the doctor. It was hard to take some of my stuff with only one arm so the doctor helped me into the taxi and I was driven home. The taxi driver was really nice and even helped me carry my stuff into the house. When I got inside I clumsily paid the taxi driver and carried my stuff carefully to my room over the course of three trips. After all my stuff was organized, I picked up the phone and dialed with one hand Billie Joe's cell number that I found on the counter.
"Hello?" came a voice.
"Hey, it's me," I said sitting down.
"Oh, Saidi, thank God! You weren't at the hospital and this stupid nurse had us scared that you ran away!" he said.
"How would I run away with one working eye and shoulder?" I said.
"Yeah. Where are you right now?" he asked.
"I'm at home. I'm waiting for Nick to come home from work. I still have to discuss some stuff with him. Hey do you know how I got hit?" I asked.
"No idea. Well, Mike and Tre are going to come over to take care of you and I'm going to stay with Adi. She's a little sick right now and she needs me to be here. Talk to you later!"
"Bye," I said as I hung up. I sat down and waited for someone to appear at the door. I closed my eyes and rested my shoulder. There was a knock at the door. I didn't feel like answering it so I just yelled for them to let themselves in. I opened my eyes and there was Mike and Tre sitting beside me staring at me.
"Hello!" said Tre in a super high voice.
"Hey guys. What's up?" I said. Mike shrugged and Tre sat in the chair bouncing up and down.
"We just came down to look after our favorite veggie!" said Mike.
"I'm not a veggie," I said flatly.
"Almost." he said pointing to my head, eye and shoulder. I nodded and said thanks as we just sat and talked. We didn't have a lot to talk about, but we made it take a long time. You know, subjects merging into subjects. I heard Nick come in.
"Saidi? Are you here?!" he called.
"Yeah! In here," I said. Tre looked at me as his face dropped.
"I think we'd better leave," he said.
"No! Why don't you guys give Billie Joe a quick call and tell him that you're having dinner at my place! We're having pizza," I said quickly. "Vegetarian," I added. Mike and Tre looked at each other and nodded.
"Sure why not." said Mike as he pulled out his phone and dialed up Billie Joe's number.
After Mike hung up, Nick came in.
"Ready for dinner?" he asked. We nodded and all sat down at the table. We started up a little chat during dinner but Tre didn't seem to warm up to Nick that much. He would talk but there was always a hint of either hatred or coldness in his voice. I couldn't make my mind up which one it was. In either case I got the feeling that Tre didn't like Nick. And Nick didn't like Tre. After we finished eating our dinner, Tre decided that it was time for him and Mike to leave.
"We're going back to Oakland next Friday, so we'll have to do something before we leave okay?" said Mike. I nodded and gave them both hugs. I waved good bye to Tre and Mike as they hopped in a taxi.
"How's your shoulder?" asked Nick as I turned around from shutting the door.
"Fine, well, pretty good for being shattered." I said looking at it. Nick leaned in and kissed me.
"I think I'm gonna go to bed now. I love you," he said.
"I love you too," I said. I sat down and tried to write with my left hand all the things I needed to do for the wedding. I didn't want to get married with my shoulder shattered though. I looked over my list and tried to figure out if I missed anything. Oh well, I'm sure Nick will think of something that I missed. I put the pen and paper down and went to my room. It was a little difficult getting changed with a shattered shoulder and one blind eye, which wasn't so blind anymore. Things were just darker and blurrier then my good eye.
I crawled into bed and fell asleep next to my husband to be. The most wonderful man in the world.
