Tripping Over Drum Sets, chapter 2
When I got off the bus, I stood in front of a small house with a tiny lawn. This was where I was going to live. I walked up the small side walk and unlocked the door with my newest key. The door swung open and I stepped inside shutting the door. I looked around. Kitchen, check, bedroom, check, bathroom, check, living room, check, extra bedroom? sure why not? I went to the largest bed room and unpacked my things, hanging them neatly on hangers in my closet. After all my clothes were hung up I went to my living room. I looked around and then I heard a honk from outside. I looked out the window and saw a U-Haul parked outside my house. I jogged outside and started to help the men unpack my things. After the U-Haul had left I started to unpack boxes after boxes of furniture and pictures and phones, you name it. I placed everything in its own little space and sat down on my couch and turned on the tube, which didn't turn on. I'd forgotten to plug it in. I got up and walked in behind the tube. I crouched down and fiddled around with the cable cord and the power cord and all the other cords that were behind there. I had just finished tiding up and unpacking and fixing everything to make it work when the phone rang. I stood up and picked up the phone.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hey, uh... is Saidi there please?" came a voice from the other side.
"Yeah, speaking."
"Oh hey Saidi, it's Tre."
"Hey Tre! What's up?" I said looking at my watch. It was 5:00. Right on time.
"Nothing, are you finished packing and all that shit?" he asked.
"Hmm? Oh yeah! I just finished actually. I managed to figure out how to connect a TV!" I said.
"Rad! So you wanna come down and have some dinner and hang out?" he asked timidly.
"Yeah. One problem though. I don't know where you guys live and I'm new here."
"Right.... I forgot about that. Well where do you live? I can come and pick you up." he said suggestively.
"Umm...." I said as I walked outside to look at my address. "230, East 12th Street."
"Wow! You're not to far away! I'll come get you anyways." he said in a slight state if surprise.
"Okay. I'll wait for you then." I said. We said good-bye and I went to my room and changed into my favorite pair of jeans and a Green Day T-shirt. I didn't know who they were, my brother's friend gave it to me before I left. I brushed my hair and pulled it into a half ponytail with a part down the center. I sat on the chair in my kitchen waiting by the window. I had my jacket on my lap and I was ready to go. I was staring at the pictures on my wall when there was a knock at the door. I looked out the window and there was Tre standing in front of my door. Waiting for me to answer. I got up and answered the door.
"Hey! Hold on a sec. I gotta put my jacket on." I said as I slipped on my shoes and jacket at the same time.
"Nice T-shirt." he said as he walked me to his car. It was a green mustang with silver black trimming.
"Nice car!" I said answering his comment. I opened the door and sat down. Tre sat next to me and started his car. "Oh! Wait! I'll be right back! I forgot to lock the door." I said as I opened the door again and ran up the sidewalk to my door. I locked the door and ran back to the car. I barely had time to put my seat belt on when Tre pulled away and started to drive off.
"Go to the end of the block and turn left. Then left again. Our house is this one." He said as he pulled in next to a house that look almost exactly as mine. "There's a little path from our back door that goes through the alley a bit. I'll walk you home and show you later."
"Thanks." I said as I got out of the car.
Tre walked me to the front door and twisted the knob.....
