Tripping Over Drum Sets, chapter 30
*Day of the Wedding*
*Saidi's View*
I woke up kind of late. I opened my eyes just a bit and stared at the ceiling. What a lovely day. Little Franky the dog is sitting on my bed... sleeping. As usual. God that dog loved to sleep. And eat. Kind of reminded me of someone... can anyone guess? No? Fine then... he reminds me of Tre. There I said it. I have a little dog version of Tre sleeping in my bed. Kind of funny actually. I closed my eyes again.
Then my alarm clock went off. And you know what happens when that god forsaken thing goes off. You end up hurting yourself or someone else trying to shut that damn thing off. Frank ended up jumping on my face thinking that I didn't hear it go off. So when I pushed him off my face I reached over to the clock.
And just my luck, I was on the edge of the bed, so I ended up falling off the bed, landing with a thud on the ground. Right on my hip. Ow. I stood up fast, hoping no one was in my room or anything. I looked around, flattened my hair and then looked at my hip. It was all red. I then looked up at the clock and threw it across the room. I knew it wouldn't do much, but I was a little mad. The clock flew across then room and left a dent in the wall.
"Oops..." I said as I sat in my bed again. Frank looked up at me and then at the clock, which was fritzing on the ground. I looked down. Wires were hanging out of it and everything. Then Frank let out a bark. I looked over to him.
"What?" He barked again.
"What?" Once again, he barked. "Are you... hungry?" I asked. He tilted his head on jumped off the bed and ran around the room. There was a knock at the door. I walked over rubbing my eyes. I opened the door and there was Maria.
"Hey! Ready to get ready for your big day?" she asked pushing past me and putting a ton of stuff on the other bed. I closed the door and walked over to all the stuff and looked down at it.
"Yeah. As ready as I'll ever be," I replied sitting down on the bed as she took everything out of numerous boxes and bags. She seemed more excited about the wedding then I did. She dressed me in half my dress, and then gave me pants to wear.
"We are going to the hair dressers, and while you're getting your hair done, a professional make up artist will be doing your make up. Then we can get the rest of the dress on you, drive you up to the church, get you all prettied up even more, and then you can marry Nick. I've got everything planned out," she said.
"What about you?" I asked pulling the pants on.
"I don't need to pull my dress over my head. I'm getting my hair and make up done as well and then at the church I'll get into my dress," she said waving the subject. I shrugged and kissed Frank on the head. He barked at me.
"Can you do something really fast for me please?" I asked.
"Yeah. What?" she asked.
"Can you bring Frank to Billie Joe's room?" I said kissing Frank again. "I don't want him to be all alone."
"Why don't we just drop him off at the doggie day care thing, right next to our apartment?" she asked.
"I don't know. I mean, Billie Joe was kinda looking forward to looking after Frank for a while," I said.
"Oh come on! I'll go down to Billie Joe's room, with Frank, tell him that he can look after him but before he comes to the wedding, he has to drop him off at the doggie day care," she insisted.
"No, I wanted Frank to be at the wedding! He's part of the family too! Aren't you? Little Franky-wanky!" I said. Maria rolled her eyes.
"Fine. I'll be right back," she said picking up Frank and leaving the room. I was left alone in my room again. I quickly packed all my clothes up and put them in my bags. Then I quickly did a room check, making sure I didn't forget anything here. There was a knock at the door, I quickly looked through the little peeper thing to see Maria standing there. I opened the door. She rushed in and pick up the stuff.
"Are you ready to run like you've never ran before?" she asked seriously.
"Yes. Let's go!" I said picking up two of the boxes.
We snuck out of the hotel, using the stairs and back exit, and raced as fast as we could into Maria's car. She snapped her seat belt in and slammed on the gas. I'm willing to bet my marriage that we made it to the hair salon in about 10 seconds flat. She parked the car, and we jumped out and ran into the salon. We dropped into the seats they had waiting for us and closed our eyes as people surrounded us. I had about a million people working on my hair and another million working on my make up. Apparently they didn't want my mascara to run if I cried so they used this 'super waterproof' stuff.
"Oh honey! You're just gonna look super fan-tab-u-lous for tonight aren't you?" said one of the ladies doing my hair. She had dyed blonde hair, pink lipstick, pink nails, and blue eye shadow.
"Uh-huh," I said sinking into my hair a little more.
"Oh not like that!" said the gay man working on my hair. "You're not supposed to mix that with that! It's this one with that one! And that make up could use a little more foundation."
"You wanna do my job?" said the crazy lady, dropping my hair.
"Yeah. You're not doing a very good job!" said the gay guy, picking up my hair and doing a better job then the lady. While we were waiting for my hair to finish it sitting process, the gay guy decided to wash my face and do the make up properly. He ended up doing it better then the other people. "Never use the super waterproof stuff. It's not good for your lashes," he explained.
"I kinda noticed that. Thanks for taking over," I said.
"No problem. They have no idea what they are doing. The one lady is a stoner, and the rest are newbies around here," he said pulling out a magazine and reading it, looking up at my hair every now and then. I almost spit out my water. Actually, I choked on it.
"What?!" I said, wiping my mouth. He looked up.
"Nothing. I fixed you. You are going to look gorgeous," he said standing up and checking my hair. "You're ready for rinsing. C'mon." I stood up and followed him to the sink. I sat down and he started working his gay magic on me once again. After he washed my hair, he put me back in the chair and started blow drying my hair and styling it and everything else you could imagine.
"There. You are my newest masterpiece," he said shifting his weight to his left. He spun me around in the chair to face the mirror. I looked great.
"Holy sh-" I began.
"SAIDI! You look wonderful!" cut in Maria, who still had foils in her hair.
"Thanks. It's mostly because of this dream over here!" I said motioning to the gay man, who puffed his chest out proudly. I looked back at the mirror. My hair was curly and had blonde highlights. And it was up in a bun looking thing, with my bangs on the sides. Then he put my veil on. God I looked great.
After Maria's hair was done and styled we paid for our do's and left the salon. We quickly jumped into the car and sped off towards the church with all our stuff. Maria parked the car as fast as she could and we both ran into the church. The priest was waiting for us. We ran up the isle and into the back room where I could get ready. Maria helped me put the rest of my dress on.
"Do I look okay?" I asked. Maria nodded and handed me my bouquet.
"Look in the mirror!" she ordered as I walked up to the mirror. There I stood. My hair all done up, in a white wedding gown, holding white roses with green stuff around them. They weren't even real flowers! Nick didn't like the red or the ivy that I wanted, and he was 'allergic' to real flowers. I smiled in the mirror, and for the slightest second I felt that my smile was fake. I turned back to Maria, still smiling.
"I'm ready," I said. "How much more time do we have?"
"Um," she said looking at her bare wrist and then at the clock on the wall. "20 minutes."
"Is that enough? Can you go check how many people have come already?" I asked. She nodded and walked out the door to peek at the seats. She came back with in a few seconds.
"Adi, and Billie Joe, and Joey, and Mike, and Tre, and your little pooch are all in the front rows already!" she said. That was all I cared about. The 'gang' being here. I didn't even care if my own parents came or not. "Can you help me get my dress on? You only have to zip it from the back."
"Yeah sure," I said. She took off her shirt and pants and switched her bra. She stepped into the dress and pulled it up. I zipped up her back and made sure the zipper was invisible. "There, you look great!"
"Not as great as you. I sure hope I find a guy as great as Nick, Saidi," she said turning around.
"You will. Don't worry about it," I said hugging her.
I ended up pacing around the room. Occasionally, I'd look in the mirror and fix a piece of hair or make up or something. I ended up sitting down and attempting to make my bouquet look a little bit more full, but Nick didn't like the big full ones. I looked at the clock, I had 5 minutes. Which meant that I should probably, take the back hall with Maria and meet the rest of the people to walk down the isle.
"Maria!" I said. Her head popped around the corner, which kind of scared me.
"Yeah?" she asked.
"I think we'd better go now! C'mon," I said going through the other door. She followed me.
"I'm so excited for you," she said as we made it to the back of the church. The doors we closed and everything went dead silent. The doors creaked open and music started up. Here we go...
***
Okay, I hear the music. There goes the flower girl, the ring bearer, the bride's maids, and groom's men, and Maria and Dave. Okay. Oh my God! Change of music, okay, here I go, walking down the isle. This is the happiest day of my life. All right, under the arch of roses, and down the isle. There's Nick. Oh wow, he's so handsome. Oh! Don't stare! You'll blush or trip. Okay, look at.... um... at Maria! Yeah! Okay, she's staring at Nick! Don't stare at my husband! Okay, I'll ignore it. Wow! Every one is staring at me... Hey there's Tre and Mike and Billie Joe and Adi. And cute little Joey. And my little Franky!! Smile! Right! Smile. Okay, almost at the little altar thingy! Okay, I'm there. Walk up the stairs, DON'T TRIP! I need to stop talking to myself.
"Dearly beloved. We are gathered here today to join this beautiful couple in holy matrimony," said the priest. I was a little afraid that he was going to die right there he was so old. Both Nick and I just stood there, staring into each other's eyes. I broke my eyes away and looked into the audience.
My eyes immediately fell on Billie Joe and Adi who were watching intently. Next I looked at mine, who had Joey on his lap. Next I looked at Tre. He was sitting there with his head down staring at the ground. He had little Frank on his lap. I knew what he was thinking about. Me marrying Nick. Even after he tried to get me to call it off by lying about Nick cheating on my with Maria. I turned around to see Maria. She looked really pretty in her red dress. I turned around to look at Nick. I felt myself blush as soon as our eyes met and he smiled. I could have melted on the spot.
"And now for the rings!" announced the priest. The little ring bearer stepped up the stairs and handed the priest the rings. "With these rings..." he started, but I heard him trail off. His voice getting more and more muffled. Then...
*Memory comes back*
"Nick and I are... are," said Maria. Finally! I get to find out what she said!
*Memory ends*
What?! No!
"Do you Nick, take Saidi..." said the priest, but his voice was starting to muffle again.
*Memory comes back*
"Saidi, I'm so sorry!" cried Maria. Yeah, yeah whatever, just tell me. "Nick and I are..." Yes? YES?!
*Memory ends*
Shit! I wanted to know what she said! Son of a b-
"Do you Saidi, take Nick to be your husband?" asked the priest holding out Nick's ring. You idiot! You snapped me out of my thoughts! Oh wait, never insult the father... right.
"I do," I said quickly glancing in Tre's direction. He was waiting for my answer and when I said, 'I do' his head dropped and I saw his face wrinkle as a hand came up to his eyes. I felt bad for Tre, I really did.
"Then I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride," said the priest, closing his book. Nick and I both smiled. Just as my head moved to kiss him, something huge happened.
*Memory comes back*
"Nick and I are having sex!" cried Maria. It all made sense now. That's why Nick lied in my other memory. That's why I got hit by the semi-truck, that's why Nick got all defensive when I called him a cheater right before getting Frank. But most importantly, Tre didn't lie to me. He told me the truth and he tried to save me. But even MORE importantly, Nick cheated on me. He cheated and kept it from me! And it was with my best friend! But wait... I got hit by a fucking SEMI-TRUCK! It's stupid Nick's fault that I was in a coma for however many days! Okay, back on topic... Tre didn't lie... he told the truth... God I was a bitch....
*Memory stops*
Just as I was about to kiss Nick, I pulled away. He looked at me. I didn't know what to think...
*Saidi's View*
