From No Dad, To Rockstar Dad, chapter 9
The next morning I woke up to my alarm clock. I turned it off quickly so that it wouldn't wake Billie. I kissed his lips softly and walked out of the room to get the boys up for school.
They took awhile to get up, so they missed their bus. I made them some oatmeal, and helped Jakob finish up his math homework.
"Let's go guys. I'm going to have to drive you to school this morning since you obviously missed the bus," I said with a chuckle.
"Okay mom," they said together.
We got in the car and headed off to their school. Ten minutes of driving, my cell started to go off.
"Can I answer it?" Jakob asked sweetly.
I looked at the caller I.D. and noticed it was Billie.
"Sure," I said handing him the phone.
He flipped it open and pressed the talk button.
"Hello...hi dad...mom's right here...we missed our bus... okay love you too...hold on... " Jakob said handing me the phone.
"Hey babe," I said into the receiver.
"Morning baby, the boys giving you any trouble?" he asked.
"Of course not," I said.
"That's good. Okay. I was just checking. Will you be home soon?" he asked.
"Yeah. I'm just going to drop them off, and then I'm going to go home," I said.
"Okay. I love you," he said.
"I love you too," I said hanging up.
We approached the school and I let them out in the front.
"I'll pick you up after school guys," I said.
"Okay bye mom," they said and got out of the car.
I drove home, and got back into the house. Billie was drinking coffee at the kitchen table and greeted me with a kiss.
"Thanks for taking the boys," he said thankfully.
"Of course. I love doing stuff for them. I told them I would pick them up too," I said.
"That's fine," he said. "You know I'm really happy, that you're so close to the boys you know, it's good that they have some kind of mom around."
I smiled.
"Well, you know I'll do anything for those boys. I love them so much," I said.
"I know. They love you too," he said, hugging me and kissing my forehead.
Billie and I had a nice day. We went out to eat lunch, and got home around 2:30.
"I'm going to go pick up the boys," I said.
"Okay. I've got practice with the guys so, I'll be at your dad's house. So you can come by there when you get them. I love you," he said.
"I love you too," I said kissing him and heading out the door.
I drove to the boys school, and pulled in. I saw Joey waiting patiently out front, but there was no sign of Jakob. I parked the car, and got out and walked up to Joey.
"Joey, sweetie, where's your brother?" I asked.
"He never came out of his class, Mom," he replied.
"WHAT?!" I asked a little bit frantic.
"He didn't come out. I waited for five minutes, and he never came out. I don't know where he is," he said looking at me.
"Okay, come on," I said grabbing Joey's hand.
I walked in the school, and towards the main office.
"Excuse me, can I help you?" the lady at the desk asked.
"Yes, my son wasn't outside waiting for me with his brother. Is he in here? Or in detention perhaps?" I asked.
"What's your son's name?" she asked.
"Jakob Danger Armstrong," I said.
She pulled out his file and said, "It says here, Adrienne Nesser is his mother. Are you Mrs. Nesser?" she asked.
"No. I'm Jewel Pritchard. I'm dating their father. I consider them my sons though. Now where is he?" I asked rudely.
"You're dating Billie Joe Armstrong?" she asked in disbelief.
"Damn it lady, yes. Now please tell me where my son is?" I asked.
"Mrs. Nesser picked him up at 12:30!" she said.
"What?! That can't be. She's not on the list to pick them up. Neither of them for that matter. She was removed about a month and a half ago," I said.
"We haven't updated it yet ma'am. I'm sorry," she said.
"Sorry?! That's it? My son Jakob could be in danger right now and all you can say is sorry?! Screw you lady," I snapped.
I took Joey's hand and walked back to the car.
"Where's Jakob?" Joey asked.
"With your mother," I said.
"But-but-but she'll hurt him," he said while his eyes started to water.
"Not if I can help it, sweetie," I said hugging him.
I pulled out my phone and called Billie's cell.
"Hello?" he answered.
"Babe, Adi has Jakob," I said.
"What?!" he asked.
"She pulled him out of school at 12:30," I said, on the verge of tears.
"Baby, calm down. It's going to be fine. Are you okay? Where's Joey?" he asked.
"I'm okay, and Joey's with me. He's fine," I said softly.
"Okay. Just calm down, and don't panic. You'll scare Joey," he said trying to calm me down.
"I'll try. Call the cops and send them to her house to see if he's there. Billie, I'm scared," I said.
"Don't be scared. We'll find him. I promise. I'll call the cops right away. Come to your dad's house. Okay baby. I love you," he said.
"I'm on my way. I love you too," I said hanging up.
I got into the car and so did Joey. We drove as quickly as possible to my dad's house. As we pulled in, I turned the car off quickly and rushed into the house being followed by Joey. I ran into Billie's arms and cried.
He hugged me tightly trying to calm me down.
"Jewel, baby, look at me," he said.
I looked at him, and he wiped away my tears with his thumbs.
"Calm down, it's okay. We'll find him," he said, kissing my lips softly.
I nodded my head, and hugged Joey.
I walked over to my dad, and he hugged me.
"You okay?" he asked.
"Yeah, I'm okay," I said softly.
"Did you call the cops, Billie?" I asked.
"Yeah, they are going to her house to see if he's there," he said wrapping his arm around my waist and kissing my cheek.
"Good," I said.
We all sat on the couch for a good 30 minutes quietly. I was resting my head on Billie's shoulder and Joey was on the other side resting his head on Billie's other shoulder. His arms around each of us. My dad was making more coffee, and Tre was sitting quietly with his arm around Stephany.
The door bell rang. Billie got up quickly, and walked to the door and opened it.
There was an officer standing in the doorway, and a very scared Jakob to the side of him. I let out a big sigh of relief, and walked over to them. Jakob jumped into Billie's arms and hugged him tightly. He was crying in Billie's shoulder.
Jakob looked up to his dad, and asked, "Where's mommy?"
"I'm right here baby," I said.
Billie put Jakob down and he ran into my arms.
"Are you okay?" I asked him.
"Yeah, mom hit me again though, but I'm okay," he said softly.
I kissed his cheeks and hugged him tightly.
"I'm sorry," I said with tears in my eyes.
"It's not your fault, mommy. Don't cry," he said.
I smiled at him, and let go.
"Thank you officer," we all said to the officer.
"No problem. We are taking Mrs. Nesser down to the station. For violating the custody order," he said.
"Thank you," Billie said, shaking his hand.
