Welcome To My Life, chapter 9
Kendra's POV
"Bye Billie! I gotta go to crappy-ass school."
Y'know, Ken, you should drop out, like I did, then we could spend more time together." He wiggled his eyebrows and grinned.
"I only have a few more months left and I was kind of planning on going to college. Look, we can talk about it later, I'm going to be late," I said and kissed Billie on the lips. He just stood there looking dazed. I giggled and ran out the door. On my way to school I was listening to my Ramones CD, when someone bumped into me hard.
"Hey! Watch where you're going, asshole!" I turned to look at the person who had bumped me. It was a man in his mid-twenties. He had short dark brown hair and dark brown, almost black eyes. The same eyes as me. I just stared.
"Do I have something on my face?" he asked, giving me a weird look.
"Wha-oh, um, no it's just, um, y-you-you look like someone-"
Before I continue, I should probably tell you why I was so shocked to see this man. I had a brother, but he ran away when I was 7. His name was Pete. One day he just couldn't take anymore of my mom's shit, so he ran away and I never saw him again. Okay, back to reality.
"P-Pete?" I asked shakily as he continued to stare at me oddly. His eyes narrowed and became suspicious.
"How do you know my name?" At that point I couldn't speak. "Hey, kid, I asked you a question. How the hell did you know my name? 'Cause I've never seen you before..." He trailed off and looked me over again.
Then his eyes widened. Before I knew what I was doing I turned around and started running to school. I could hear him yelling, "Wait! Kendra wait!" I finally stopped and let him catch up to me. "Kendra, oh my God! I can't believe it's you."
"Why? Why, Pete? Why'd you have to run away? You were the only one I felt safe around! When you ran away, I was Mom's slave! She abused me! And then that fucker Greg came into the picture and started beating me! Why'd you leave me?" I was shaking with anger and was close to tears. "He raped me and Mom just laughed," I said in almost a whisper.
Pete just stood there looking shocked at what I just said. "Kendra, if I had any idea how badly you were going to get treated, I never would have left. I'm so sorry."
I was still mad at him for running away. "Look, I have to get to school, I'm already late." I turned away and started walking toward the school grounds.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't Miss Rose, late again. Take your seat," said my history teacher, Mrs. Benson.
"Fucking bitch." I muttered under my breath. As usual it was hell. Carly and her demon preppies trying to humiliate me, and teachers giving me detentions for no reason.
Billie's POV
At 12:45 I decided to head down to the Gilman to meet Adrienne. I was nervous as hell. I grabbed my Chucks and headed out the door. When I got there, I went to the bar and ordered a beer.. About 10 minutes later I saw a girl walk in. It was Adrienne. I went up to her.
"Um, hi Adrienne."
She smiled. "Hi Billie Joe." There was an awkward silence and I looked at the ground. "So, um, what's up?" she asked trying to break the silence. We walked to the bar and ordered some drinks. Then we talked for a little while about pretty much anything. As I was talking to Adrienne, I began to feel slightly guilty about doing this to Kendra. I loved her and here I was trying to hit on another girl.
"Billie, are you okay?"
"What? Oh yeah."
"Anyways, I was saying that this is my last day here."
"It is? Why?"
She laughed. "Haven't you been listening to me? I have to go back to Minnesota. I was only here because I won that ticket to see The Ramones concert."
"Oh. Well, we could still call each other, right?"
"Yeah, I think so. Well I have to go, my plane leaves in an hour." Then she kissed my cheek and left. I have to admit I was disappointed. I decided to just go home.
Kendra's POV
Finally, the bell to go home rang and I ran out of the classroom. I wanted to tell Billie what had happened. As I was walking out the main doors, I saw Pete waiting there. He saw me and ran up to me.
"What do you want?" I snapped at him.
"Kendra, please forgive me! I'm sorry I ran away! Can you just please let it go?"
"How can I let it go? They scarred me for life Pete, and you didn't even bother to take me with you."
"Well I'm here now. And you can come live with me. In fact, you are going to come with me. You would be a lot safer."
"Mom and Greg are in jail. I'm not living with them anymore, I'm living with Billie Joe."
He sighed, "Well, if you ever need me, you can call me." Then he handed me a slip of paper with his phone number and address. Then he just walked away.
I could tell he was sad, after all I was his sister, and he hadn't seen me in nearly 11 years.

When I got to Billie's house, I found him sitting on the couch staring at the TV.
"Hey, babe, what's up?" I asked as I sat down next to him.
"Just thinkin'"
"Oh," I laid my head on his shoulder and sighed.
"What's wrong?" he asked. I told him the whole story of Pete running away and my encounter with him this morning. "And he left you with those fuckers?" he asked, shocked.
"Yup," I answered dully. But, knowing me, my bad luck would strike again, it was just a matter of time.
