Billie Joe's American Idiot, chapter 3

Billie Joe was stunned. They really did like it. He didn't know what to say.

"Oh. Uh....Now what?" he asked.
"Well, that's the question now, isn't it?" replied Mike.
"Yeah." Billie Joe sighed. Where did he go from here?
"Can you write more?" Tre asked.
Billie Joe laughed. "Are you kidding? Can I write more? I've only just started! You guys better leave me alone for a while, I am going to busy." He was struck with a sudden thought. "Mike! Tre! This...this could be just what we need. This could be the start of our new career. Our new career as the greatest rock band. Ever."

Mike and Tre were silent.
"But..Billie, what about the album we've been working on for months? What are we going to do about that?" Mike asked.

Then something amazing happened. As if on cue, Billie Joe's phone rang.
"Hello?" he answered. "Oh, hi, Rob...Yeah...Yeah, they're here...What?...Are you serious?....Oh my God...They what?....Completely gone?...And there's no way...Yeah....No, I understand...Uh-huh...Yeah...Okay...Bye."
He hung up.

"What? What is it? What's wrong?" Tre asked nervously.
"That was Rob Cavallo." Billie Joe said, completely in shock. "Our album...it's been stolen. It's gone."
Mike was pissed. "After all that work?! Just gone?! What kind of a moron does this to a band?! This is the worst thing that has ever happened to us!"
Billie Joe, on the other hand, was ecstatic. "Mike! Don't you know what this means? This new story, these new songs. We'll make a new album! And it'll be better than the stolen one, better than anything we've ever done! Don't you understand? This is the best thing that's ever happened to Green Day!"
"I don't know..." Tre said worriedly.
"Trust me, Tre. I know what I'm doing. I've never been more sure about anything." Billie Joe reassured him. "Now! You guys, it's late, go to sleep, go out, do something, right now I just have to write." And with that, he sat back down at the table he had been writing at and began again.

Mike and Tre headed down the hallway to their separate bedrooms.
"I hope he knows what he's doing..." Mike said.
"Yeah. He hasn't...he hasn't been drinking lately, has he? I mean...he's been okay?" inquired Tre.
"Yeah, he's been fine." Mike replied. "So I guess we have nothing to worry about, right? And, maybe he's right, maybe this'll jumpstart our careers and make us superfamous again." Even as he said it, he knew it didn't sound very likely.
"Yeah, maybe." Tre said. "Well, 'night Mike, see you ing the morning."
"'Night Tre." Mike said.
Both of them entered their respective rooms and crawled into bed.

Meanwhile, Billie Joe was sitting at the table, writing another song, called "Holiday." He was muttering to himself as he continued to drink coffee and write. This had to work, it just had to. Didn't it?
