We've Made It So Far, chapter 8

The next day we arrived at the police station. They asked if we wanted to press charges. My first intention was ' yes throw the bitch in jail!' but I softly spoke.
"Can I talk to her first?" The officer nodded and took me into the interrogation room.

I saw a small blonde woman with bags beneath her eyes. Her hair was messed up and she was staring blankly into nowhere. The officer nodded to me "Her name is Mrs. Phyllis."

I nod and sit down. I see her anger burning inside of her and she starts to shake. "Why did you do that."

"You killed my Stephanie... " she said blankly.

"I have never hurt anyone."

"Your music killed her... " she paused and continued.

"She killed herself and it was you fault!" she started to scream. The officer came in calmed her down and made me leave. I came out a little shaken up. My... m-music? No its not that kind of music.

"Billie?"

"Adie!"

I walked up and pulled her in close as I rested my head on her shoulder and closed my eyes. No, my music helps people. It doesn't hurt anyone, I don't hurt anyone.

We sat in the small room with a police officer as he explained the situation.

"Stephanie Phyllis was a 13 year old girl. She had problems in school and got made fun of a lot. She was depressed from her parents just breaking up. Mr. Phyllis thinks it was your music that killed her daughter because when we had found her American Idiot was playing on her CD player. Mr. Armstrong we are sure your music had nothing to do with her death but her mother is looking for someone to blame. She wasn't aiming for Joey either... she wanted to kill you."

This woman lost her daughter and she divorced her husband. She almost killed Joey but she also has another son. I can't do that to her son. I'm not going to press charges for her son not her.

"If you don't press charges she will be put into a mental facility and will have some jail time for use of a weapon but not as long a sentence if you do."

I shook my head. "No, we won't press charges."

I looked at Adrienne who was in shock.

"What?!" she whispered between clenched teeth. I explained my reasoning and we left to find Joey and Jakob.

We saw them in the waiting room. Joey was let out of the hospital because it wasn't very severe he had been shot in his leg. We walked in to find them sitting in a loveseat asleep. I smiled at Adrienne and I could no longer wait until our baby was born we would have a wonderful family and be closer than ever. This year certainly has been stressful but I'll be prepared for years to come.
