Love's Eternal Requiem, chapter 2
The next day, I awoke from my sleep in the lush room. I think at the time, I was hoping for it all to be a dream. A very horrifying, painful dream. But, sadly, it wasn't a dream at all. It was so dark inside the home, although it was around ten o' clock in the morning. I went to the window and looked outside. The light shone so wonderfully over Oakvale.
I noticed my stomach growling, so I went downstairs into the kitchen to see if there was any food in the refridgerator. Strangely enough, the fridge was empty, so were the cabinets. I think that's when I realized that this man, Ville (as he said his name was), could not be human. What would he eat, if there was nothing to be eaten in his home. All I found in the many cabinets I opened was silverware, dining plates and goblets that looked as if they hadn't been used in centuries. This, not surprisingly, scared me a little, so I decided to go out to get breakfast since I still had the money from the night before. Hopefully, no one would ask me questions about the events of the night. I don't think I'd be able to handle reliving the hurtful memories of that.
As I walked outside of that old-style victorian home, the sun bore down on me brighter than it ever had before. I walked into town, which was about a mile away from Ville's...humble...abode. He resided right outside of Oakvale, who knows why. Maybe he adored the quiet and peace of the country. Maybe he's never been able to stand people, for much more than food. Or maybe he resides there so the Christian-Folk don't 'find him out'. Like I said, who knows.
I wandered into the nearest diner in town and ordered a plate of eggs.
"Why, Rachael! Hello there. How are you today my dear?" Melody said--An older lady who I'd always gone to when I had problems. She was such a wonderful listener.
"Hello Miss Melody. I'm doing..okay today. Just a bit tired still and hungry." I said, my eyes to the floor.
"I'm very sorry darling. I heard about what happened to your family. If you ever need help or a place to stay, you know where I live."
"Thank you, Miss Melody. I...appreciate it a lot."
"Anytime my dear. You be careful ok? The world is such a cruel place, nowadays."
"I know. I'll be careful. Thank you so much."
"Okay, well let me go get your eggs now."
"Thank you Melody."
"No problem, m'dear."
She brought me my plate of eggs and I ate them so fast I nearly started choking. I hadn't really eaten much lately, so naturally this food gave me great sustenance. I finished up eating then paid Miss Melody for it. As I said goodbye to her, she came around the counter and gave me a warm hug. I hugged her back very tightly and then I walked out of the diner.
After I got breakfast, I headed over to the lake, just to think about what my answer was going to be. Did I want to DIE and be with my family? Or did I want to become his 'pupil' and 'child'? I know that I could have left, but there was just SOMETHING about him that intrigued me so much that I decided I'd stay until the night of his arrival. Also, I was very interested in learning about the meaning of everything. I had always been very curious. And I couldn't just let my life go now with so many questions left unanswered.
Later on that day, I walked back through town, just observing everything around me. All the things I wanted to know, All the feelings I'd never feel. I walked down the road where my home used to stand. I dont know why I did. I guess I just wanted to say goodbye to my past. As I was near the end of the street where I lived, James--one of the few friends I'd had here in Oakhaven--came up to me and asked me what happened.
I told him the details of everything that had happened the day before. After I finished telling him everything, he hugged me so tightly.
"Oh my god, Rachael. I...dont know what to say. I'm...sorry," he said quietly as he hugged me.
"Thanks, James. Although...I don't think 'sorry' will bring them back."
"I know, Rachael. So...where are you staying?"
"I can't really say, James."
"Why not?"
"I just can't, okay?" I replied, half annoyed.
"Okay...I understand. I guess. Just...be careful, okay, Rachael?" he said as he made eye contact with me. He looked very serious and hurt. I couldn't really interpret his feelings, though. Now even more, I wanted so badly to know what the feeling behind his deep green eyes were.
"Well...it's getting late, James. I should...go now."
"Promise me you'll be careful, babe?"
"Promise."
"...Okay. Try to keep in touch okay? So I can know you're safe."
"Okay James. I will. Promise. Goodbye." I said as I backed away from him getting ready to head back to Ville's home.
"I love you Rachael..." James whispered as I was leaving.
I headed back home to Ville's and layed down in the posh room I had slept in since Ville brought me to his home. After about ten minutes, I fell asleep and dreamt of the events of the night before.
The last of the two days I'd had to think went by very strangely. I was awake, yet I was dreaming. Of the life I was leaving behind, the family I had lost two nights before. The things I had learned throughout my life. It was all becoming so blurry yet again. I didn't know of anything that was left for me to live for. My life had gone from so meaningful to NOTHING in a matter of hours. Now I had two choices. I could die, or I could be immortal.
Throughout that day, I kept drifting in and out of sleep. Dreaming of the life or 'eternity' that lay before me. I also couldn't help but dream of Ville. There was just....SOMETHING...about him that peaked an interest in me. There were feelings I hadn't felt in so long. Feelings of hopeless romanticism. Feelings that everytime I felt them, that they'd always been crushed by betrayal. I also felt a small light of hope. Ville was the only person in the world now, who cared about me, though Im a complete stranger to him.
As I dreamt more and more of Ville, a sudden rush of gentleness rushed over my heart and mind. Just then I heard the sweetest and most sensual voice I'd ever heard in my life...
