Finding a place to stay, chapter 1

I'll start by introducing myself, My name is Kelsea, I'm 16 and live in England. I am quite short, definitely not skinny, have blue eyes and shoulder length brown hair with blue ends. I have two best friends; Rachael and Craig. I have known them since the start of secondary school, we know everything about each other and are really close. Apart from them I don't really have any other friends. I plan to go to college and study Art and English. I'm not sure what career I want but I know that it will probably involve either Art or English, if not both.

I have a Saturday job at a local coffee shop, it's on a backstreet so it doesn't get too busy. I don't have a boyfriend and there isn't anybody that I would like to get with anyway. I play guitar, I'm not in a band, although it would be awesome if I were. I love music, it is my life. Green Day are my favourite band, their lyrics help me through everything life throws at me. However, I am not a teenie! They may be hot, but I'm just not like that. I like them for the music, not their bodies.

I live with my parents and my brother and sister. My brother is called Neil and he is 8 years old, my sister is called Amy and is 14-years-old. We all get along pretty well, but my sibling's do tend to annoy me, but then again arn't all families like that? Anyway I think that I have told you the basics, there really is nothing very interesting about me.

As I opened my eyes, I saw a stream of light shining down on my bedside table. Looking at my alarm clock I realised that it was 10:00 am. 'Uh, oh' I thought. I was supposed to be meeting Craig and the shops in half an hour. I heaved myself up out of bed and into the shower. I turned the shower onto a cool setting to try and wake myself up a bit. After a refreshing shower I was more with it so I got dressed, did my hair and went downstairs.

I looked at the clock again and was suprised to see that it had only taken me ten minutes to get ready. That meant that I sitll had time to get some breakfast. I quickly put some bread under the grill, whilst it was toasting I switched on my mobile phone to check for any messages. I had one new message, It was from Rachael.

Hey Kel, How are you? Im missin u but i'm still havin fun. I've txt Craig n he sed u 2 were goin shoppin. Hav Fun, Hun. Luvin Ya, Rach xx

I smiled and sent a quick reply back just telling her to have a good time. I had to laugh at her spelling, she always said that people would delete the text anyway so it didn't matter how you wrote it. Rach was on holiday with her family, they had gone to Weymouth for two weeks. I'm not going on holiday this year, I'm kind of glad actually because I don't mind staying at home. I smelt fresh toast and walked over to the grill to see that my breakfast was ready. I spread on some butter and jam and quickly gulped down the food. I made sure that I had everything I needed in my bag and quickly tied my battered, black converse.

As I walked out of my front door I breathed in the fresh air. I sighed and walked towards the bus stop where I was meeting Craig. I walked up to see his tall, medium built frame and hugged him.
"Hey, how are you this morning?" I asked him politely.
"I'm alright thank you, how is my little Kel?" he responded.
"Ah, I'm fine thanks. Here come's the bus." I got my money ready to hand to the bus driver.
We paid and took our seats.
"Is there anything in particular that you need to get?" Craig leaned in towards me.
"Nope, nothing that I can think off, what about you?" I replied.
"No, nothing for me. So this is a waste of time then?" he grinned.
"Well, it is if you don't like spending your time with me," I pouted.
He laughed, "Well then, I suppose I will stay."
"Good, besides I could do with calling in at work, I haven't spoken to Soph for a while," I smiled back.
"Ah, is this THE Sophie?" he asked.
"Most probably, who is THE Sophie?" I was getting confused!
"The one who I had to kiss during that very painful game of spin the bottle?" he raised an eyebrow.
Now it was my turn to laugh, "Yeah, that's her. You two should catch up." I wiggled my eyebrows.
"You know, I really don't have any feeling's for her, I was just piss ass drunk, and playing a kid's game," he replied quietly.
"Yeah I know, I mean I kissed all you that night, but I don't get all hung up over it." I wondered why he took it so seriously.
Craig sighed and we ended up in silence for the rest of the journey. As the bus pulled into the bus stop we stood up, thanked the bus driver and walked into the shopping centre.
"Okay, Where do you want to go first?" I broke the silence.
"I don't mind, how about to 'Poppy's' ?" Poppy's is the name of the coffee shop where I work.
"Sure," I replied and we made our way back out of the centre and down a side street.
When we got there I walked in and called out to Sophie. The first person who saw me was Poppy, the owner. "Oh, hello Kelsea, what are you doing here? It's not your shift?" She made her way over to me.
"No, I know, I thought that I'd pop in to see if anything was happening, and to get a coffee of course," I replied in a friendly manner.
Craig stood awkwardly to the side, his face showed that he really didn't want to be stuck in a coffee shop with a couple of women all day.
"Nothing much has happened, Steve has left though." Poppy looked anxious.
"Oh right, why?" I questioned.
"I don't know, he said something about a change of scene. We just need to find a replacement, and quickly," Poppy replied.
I glanced up at Craig, I knew that he had been job hunting and this would be perfect.
"Craig, how would you like to apply?" I asked him hopefully.
"Erm...sure." He snapped back into reality.
"Really? Well you look like a nice enough lad, and Kelsea already knows you. So you can start today if you like?" Poppy was now sounding enthusiastic.
"Really? That's great! Is that okay with you Kel, I mean I promised you a day out and all." He looked at me worried.
"It's fine, It's good that you finally have a job!" I giggled.
"Poppy, I've got nothing else to do so do you want me to stay aswell?" I called out to her.
"You wouldn't mind? You see I could do with getting off early, as I am going to see my Niece and-" she started but I cut her off.
"It's fine, you get yourself off, I can show Craig what to do." I smiled and started to edge her toward's the door.
"Oh, thank's so much, Kelsea you're such a good kid." With that she waved and left.
"Thanks," I replied but she had already gone.

I finally got home after a suprisingly busy day of work. I took my converse off and laid down on the coach. Sophie, Craig and I had been out to eat earlier so I didn't need to cook anything. I looked around the room and spotted a note on the table.

Kelsea, You said that you were going to be home late so we have gone to your Auntie's. We won't be any later than midnight, we left some money for if you want to get pizza. By the way a man rang you earlier, the number is on a memo by the phone. Take Care sweetie.

It was a note written in my Mum's handwriting. I wondered who had rung me so got up and made my way over to the phone. I didn't recognise the number but thought that I would call anyway. It was only 9:00 pm so it wasn't too late to ring. After a couple of ring's somebody picked up the phone.
"Hello," a man's voice answered.
"Erm, hi, I'm Kelsea Evans and I belive that you called me earlier," I answered nervously but politely.
"Ah yes, that would be correct. I was ringing to inform you that you are the winner of the Green Day competition," he spoke politely to me.
"Oh my gosh, really? The one where I get to take two friends to meet Green Day and hang out with them for a week?" I was now excited.
"That's it exactly Miss, do you know who you are going to take?" he enquired. Of course I was going to take Rachael and Craig.
"Yes I do, would you like their names?" I asked.
"Please, and their contact details, I will inform them for you," he replied.
I told him their contact details and said good bye. I couldn't wait for the time to come, I was very excited and needed to get organised. The trip was in two weeks time. I went to bed very happy that night.

***

Two week's later.

Rach, Craig and I were sitting in a limo whilst our bags were put in the back. A limo had been sent to transport us from the Midland's down to London, where we would stay in a hotel with Green Day. We were all unbelievably excited. After what seemed like a lifetime we eventually pulled up in front of a hotel.

"Wow!" was all that I could say.
Rachael just gasped and Craig's mouth hung open. The Hotel was massive, it was nothing like what I would call a hotel. It was painted bright white and had balconies which were gleaming in the sunlight. We walked inside and were greeted by a very fresh atmosphere. It's interior was decorated with rich colours of red and gold, the place was immaculate. I sighed, if only I had the money to splash out on these sort of luxuries. We were ushered into a conference room where we were met by a proffessional looking man.
"Hello, I believe that you are; Kelsea Evans, Rachael Adams and Craig Morris. Am I correct?"
"Yes," I replied as I pointed out who was who.
"Excellent." He smiled.
I gave him a questioning glance. I wondered what we were to do next.
"Well, I suggest that you all go and unpack and get freshened up ready to meet the guy's," he smiled. We started to walk out of the room, but we were called back. "I hope you don't mind that we put you in the same room. It does have seperate bedrooms, you just share a kitchen and lounge."
"That's great, thanks," I replied as we walked off. This was going to be awesome.
