Fifteen Years Has Gone So Fast, chapter 3
Billie Joe waited along with the rest of the guys for Joey to return with his mother. It had been several minutes and as every second ticked by Billie Joe was becoming more anxious to see Adrienne. It had been so long, fuck, fifteen years; this kid's lifetime. He wondered what was taking so long, she probably didn't want to see him he thought. She was probably angry or afraid, maybe she had forgotten him. But then again, how could she; she must of heard of him with all the publicity for the band. And Mike was right, she had his baby; she just couldn't forget who the father was.
Then the sound of a squeak was heard, all the guys looked at the kitchen door, it was slowly opening. Billie Joe froze, he was terrified. Joey stepped out and looked back into the kitchen, he was holding the door open trying to coax the woman out.
"Come on mom, just see him. Nothing was your fault, he's the one that left us," Joey said trying to get his tired and stressed mother to show her face to the man she hadn't seen in fifteen years. Joey sighed, he was distraught because he saw that his mother was in emotional pain. She had tears welling up in her big brown eyes and her dainty hands were shaking with fear, she was so nervous. "Mom, it's all right. They're nice people," Joey said comforting his overwhelmed mother. Billie Joe heard her whispering something very quickly and quietly. Joey shook his head. "No mom, he isn't with a woman, he's just with his band mates," Billie Joe heard Joey say. Billie took a deep breath and started to quietly walk towards the kitchen. Joey looked over and saw him approaching, Joey motioned with his hand for Billie Joe to keep coming.
"What are you doing?" Billie Joe heard Adrienne whisper clearly to her son. Joey looked at his mom and sighed.
"He's coming over ma," Joey told her. Billie Joe heard her gasp quietly. He could hear her softly crying.
"No, don't let him. I can't Joey, I just can't baby," Adrienne's voice cracked. Joey reached forward and grabbed her hand. He knew his mom had to see this man.
"Mom, you have to do this. For me," Joey pleaded with her. She stopped struggling to back away and stood still. Billie Joe couldn't see her yet, but he heard her fast-paced breathing.
"Alright, I'll do this for you," she agreed with her son who had been the only male in her life since Billie Joe left. She stepped out a bit towards her son and poked her head out from behind the door. She looked into the green eyes she wished she had been looking into all along. She just stood there still and silent, unsure of how to greet him.
Billie Joe looked at her face and then his eyes moved down her body, she hadn't changed much. She was still gorgeous and she had those curves that made his body ache for hers. She looked him over as well, she had been keeping an eye on him by using the internet and by watching the television, but he sure came a long way since the last time she saw him in person. He really looked like a rockstar now.
"Adie," Billie Joe whispered, his throat was suddenly dry. She looked him in the eyes once again, she had the urge to run up and kiss him and let out all her love she had been saving for him, but then she had the urge to go back into the kitchen and return with a butcher's knife and carve him up. But her love out weighted her anger and she went over to him, she stood only a foot away from him.
Joey watched as his mother and this man, who he now knew to be his father, stand in front of each other not sure of what to do. He felt a funny feeling inside, he wasn't quite sure what it was. Part of him wanted to be sick, but the other part of him felt like dancing. He didn't know what to do, he just watched his parents with a blank expression.
"He's yours you know?" Adie spoke, no louder than a whisper though. Billie Joe smiled weakly. She was all he wanted, all he had dreamed of having ever since he lost her. And now she was here standing in front of him, but could she be his again? That would be up to her, thought Billie Joe.
"I know now," Billie said back as tears spilled down his face. All his emotions were coming out now, everything was hitting him hard. She watched him cry, she lifted her hand to his face and gently wiped his tears away with her thumb. He raised his hand and wrapped his fingers around the wrist of her arm that was touching his face. She had a desire to come closer to him and kiss him. He was finally here, the day she had waited for since the day he left. He had come back, but not intentionally. He didn't come back for her, he came back to do a show.
He was still a musician and he was still touring. What good would it be to rekindle the love they shared for one night, the love that both of them couldn't forget about? He would just leave her again, he would leave her and his son.
"I don't want to do this," she cried letting her tears spill down her face, her black mascara running with it. Billie Joe was speechless. He didn't know what to say to her, she didn't want him; he was too late. Adie pulled her hand away and moved past Billie Joe and quickly exited the diner, she couldn't handle this, it was too painful.
Billie Joe just stood still and stared at the door that Adrienne had just ran out of. His heart was heavy and it was sinking with sadness and guilt. He knew he had hurt her so much, he knew that he had hurt his son. He felt helpless and too late to fix anything. He looked over at Joey with sorrowful eyes. Joey was just smiling weakly at him.
"Don't fret, she's a bit emotional, you know?" Joey said reassuring Billie that his mother was fine. "She's just in shock, it's been a while," Joey said as he moved about the diner tidying up some things. "Well, don't you have a soundcheck to be getting to?" Joey asked looking from Billie Joe to the rest of the band still seated at the booth. The guys all nodded but remained seated, and Billie Joe just stared at Joey.
"Kid, Joey, I've got to see your mom again," Billie Joe told him desperately. Joey smirked and nodded.
"Yeah, I know. Look, maybe we could talk after the show tonight. But you've got to be patient man, I mean, you can't expect her to welcome you with open arms after what happened," Joey said. Billie nodded and smiled weakly at him.
"Yeah, I'd love to meet up with you after the show," Billie Joe said smiling more now at the thought of getting to know his son better and catching up if Joey wanted to. "Hey look," Billie Joe said pulling a backstage pass out of his pocket, "Joey, you can watch the show from backstage, if you'd like," Billie offered him. Joey shook his head.
"It's nice of you to offer but if you don't mind I'd love to be in the crowd, more of an experience. To me at least," Joey told his father nicely. Billie Joe smiled and nodded understandingly.
"I know what you mean," Billie said to Joey. He held out his hand to Joey, Joey accepted it and shook it. Billie Joe wanted to hug the kid, but he figured he should take things slow. "Well, I'll see you after the show then," Billie said. Joey nodded.
Billie and the guys left to go do their soundcheck and warming up before the show. Joey figured his mom wasn't coming back to the diner so he closed up the place and made his way down the street to his house.

8:00pm had approached and Joey was in the huge crowd of Green Day fans at the Xcel Energy Center. The show was just beginning and his heart was racing, it was his first concert and he was so excited to see what was going to happen. Once the show really started and Green Day took the stage it was unbelievable, the music sounded amazing, their performance was great and the fire and crazy antics completed the show. But it had all ended too soon and Joey was craving for more once the band had taken their bow and left the stage. He waited for the huge crowd to exit the stadium and stood waiting unsure of how to meet up with Billie Joe. He approached one of the security guards at the front of the stage and called for his attention.
"Excuse me sir, I'm Billie Joe's son and he told me to meet him backstage," Joey said. The guard looked down at him and rolled his eyes.
"You know how many times I've heard that bullshit man? Get out of here kid. I know Billie Joe, and he don't have kids, so scram!" he said motioning for Joey to get out of the stadium.
"I really am though sir.." but before Joey could continue the security guard moved over and grabbed Joey's arm. He began to drag Joey through the stadium towards the exit, but stopped when someone called from behind them.
It was Jason Freese, he was running up to the guard and Joey. "Hey Larry, man this is Bill's kid, he's supposed to meet up with Billie Joe after the concert," Jason explained. The guard looked from Jason to Joey. He grunted but released Joey.
"Thanks," Joey muttered rubbing his arm to soothe the pain from the guard's painfully tight grip. Jason motioned for Joey to follow him and they made their way backstage to find Billie Joe.
