With An Angel Face and A Taste for Suicidal, chapter 2

Darkness. Complete darkness was all I could see. Am I dead? I heard someone call out my name. It was a woman's voice. Maybe it was an angel? I was definitely dead. My horrible life was over forever!

"Jimmy, please wake up!" the voice said, yelling at me.

I opened my eyes to see my mother's green eyes and warm smile.

"Oh thank God!" she said and hugged me. "Are you ok, Jimmy darling?"

"What happened?" I asked her. My head hurt like hell. "Where's Dad?"

"I don't know," she replied. "But all I know is that we should get out of here quickly. He might return and I don't want him hurting me or you anymore." She got up and ran upstairs. Slowly, I got up and followed her.

"Get all the things you want," she said, handing me a large sports bag. I went straight to my room and put all my clothes in there. Most importantly, I put in my diary. I didn't care for anything else. They weren't that important and could be replaced.

"You done?" my mom asked, as she entered my room carrying a large bag herself.

"Yep, so where are we going?" I asked, as we left my room and walked quickly down the stairs.

"Far away as possible," Mom said almost out of breath. She grabbed her car keys and before I knew it I was in the car and driving off to 'far away as possible'.

* * *

We had been on the road for many days now. I had no idea where we were going but I was glad to leave our old town, Fairfield in California. It was a great place but it wasn't for me. I always felt out of place at school and in the neighborhood. I was always called 'weirdo' and because I was a punk no one liked me. I always got into trouble and nobody there liked that. All I wanted was for Mom to take me somewhere where I could fit in and be a 'normal' kid.

"So, Mom have you decided where we are going?" I asked, breaking the awkward silence in the car. Mom and I didn't talk much, but that's because I had slept most of the time.

"Well I thought that we should stay in California, but I haven't decided on an actual place," she replied.

"Do you think Dad will try to find us?"

"I hope not. But we were going to in any place. He was going to work in New York City so I don't think we will be seeing him soon."

"Were we really going to move to New York City?" I asked in shock. New York City was one place that I really wanted to go to!

"Yeah, but I don't really want to go there," Mom replied, concentrating really hard on the road.

"Oh, why not? New York City is a really cool place. Mom, how could you possibly not want to go there?" I asked in disbelief.

"I've already been there, and I didn't really like it there."

I fell silent. It wasn't that big of a deal, but it would've been great. I looked out of the car window. All I could see was trees. This was boring.

Mom turned the car into a road. I could finally see buildings and more cars. Not long after we were on a busy road.

"Where are we Mom?" I asked.

"I don't know but I reckon we should live here," she said. "What do you think?"

"Yeah I think so too," I agreed. This place gave me a feeling that I belonged. Well I hope so...
