"Thinking the Billie Joe first, then you two come in after eight beats," Sam said and they nodded. "Okay, Billie Joe, since you kind of know the tune and lyrics, just play something that you think resembles it." Billie Joe tried a random tune.
"Good enough?"
"Go lower on two and four, then higher on six and eight. Just try it like that," Sam suggested and he tried again.
"Okay, that didn't work," Billie Joe admitted and Sam nodded. "How's this?" He tried a different tune.
"It's not working for me," Sam said and sat down on the floor. "Just give me a minute." She stared into space for about a minute, trying out different tunes in her head.
"Okay!" she exclaimed. "Got it! I'll sing the 'I' part, and you play the intro like that, okay?" Billie Joe nodded and she sung. "And I-I-I-I-I-I." Billie repeated the tune on the guitar.
"Do that again, but Sam sing along," Mike said slowly, staring at them. Billie Joe played and Sam sung into the mic.
"Billie Joe sing this time too," Tre said, getting Mike's drift. They obeyed and did it again, but with Billie Joe singing too.
"Now that," Mike said, keeping his voice monotonous and pointing at them.
"Rocked." Sam smiled.
"Okay, lets put us two in it and go natural the whole way, eh?" Tre asked.
"Sure, why not?" Sam said. She had never had her set band go natural, ever.
"Ready everyone?" Billie Joe asked, and once everyone was ready, he started to play the intro. Sam held up the mic to her mouth and thought of he newest and best ever friends, Tre, Billie Joe and Mike.
"You know you know you know, you know you keep me alive, because we're together, I survive," she sang by herself, trying to go with the punk-rock style of the music.
"Bringing me up and forwards, never holding me back or down, they were never there, but you are always around," Billie Joe joined Sam, their voices sounding perfect together, both in tune with each other. When I was alone, it didn't feel or sound right. When I was with Adam, it didn't feel or sound right. But here, as part of Green Day, it feels and sounds right," Sam thought and she kept on singing. "I love for you, I live for you, I breathe for you, and I-I-I-I-I-I, I-I-I-I-I-I, I-I-I-I-I-I, would die for you." They both stopped singing, letting Billie Joe get the music ready for the second verse.
"Whenever whenever whenever, I'm with you things are okay, for once I believe, that you will stay," Billie Joe sang perfectly, Sam then joined in.
"Never holding me down, you're always around," Sam and Billie Joe sang while Tre and Mike exchanged glances. They both knew this was rocking way much more than usual.
"I love for you, I live for you, I breathe for you, I love for you, I live for you, I breathe for you, and I-I-I-I-I-I, I-I-I-I-I-I, I would die for you." Mike joined in with the two.
"None of the remarks I usually get, all of those things I try to forget," Sam and Billie Joe sung. Then they were straight into the chorus again, but with Mike and Tre singing along as well. "I love for you, I live for you, I love for you, I live for you, and I would die for you. Die for you."
"That seriously rocked!" Tre said, standing up. Mike and Billie Joe took off their instruments and all went for Sam with Tre. Sam got the biggest hug that three people can give.
"Hey!" she said as she got squashed in the middle of all of them.
"We have to get that recorded!" Tre said as Mike let go of Sam. The other two didn't want to let go yet.
