A split second can change a life time., chapter 1

Michaela May aged 19 -

I found it hard to see though the windscreen of my old rickety car, as the fog blurred my vision and the darkness of night filled the air. I was leaning forward trying very hard to keep my eyes on the road, not that it would make much difference. We were driving in the middle of nowhere; all I had to watch out for was the sharp turns and tall trees that closely surrounded the old broken road.
I was driving down to the Grampians to visit my close friend Chloe as a surprise for her birthday.

My feet were frozen on the pedals and felt like ice blocks. My car was so old and recked the heater hadn't worked since I first got the car for my 18th birthday last year.

All my joints ached from a mixture of the cold air and the fact I had been driving for so long. I had been driving for what seemed like an eternity now, my eyes began feel as heavy as rocks. I blinked a couple of times trying to keep my eyes on the road. I began to drift off.

Soon the road became a still frame in my mind.

Then the next thing I knew, I could see two white dots in the distance, it took me a while before I realized what they were. It took me too long to realize what they were; it was to late... it was a car. Going at full speed, I didn't see it, it clearly didn't see me.

We collided in a blink of an eye. In that spilt second I felt the most incredible pain of my life, like every bone in my body was being crushed by a base ball bat as my body was lifted out of the drivers seat and came crashing through the thick wind screen I was launched into the air like I was weightless, like a leaf.
I hit the ground....

Chloe Robinson aged 19 -

I hit the road that night in my dads van. The weather was cold enough to snow, my hands were so cold they felt like they were frozen together with the steering wheel.

My whole body was shaking from the cold.

I thin layer of ice covered the old half broken road. I was to existed to care, I had just come from my 19th birthday party. I was on my way to visit my friend Michaela, she couldn't make it to my party, so I though I could surprise her.
My head was all over the place, I had probably had a bit to much to drink. I was seeing spots. Goose bumps grew all over my body like tiny little hills on my skin. I rubbed my left arm to remain as warm as possible.

My foot felt like it had frozen to the pedal as I accelerated over the speed limit as I entered the bush. Speeding through the bush pushing against the wind. I don't know what came over me, I was swerving all over the icy rode, I felt the erg to go faster and faster, until I pushing down as hard as I could on the accelerator, with the windows down and the stereo booming, I felt invisible. The wind rushed through my hair, the feeling was amazing. Like nothing was going to stop me.
I charged around the sharp corners, and in the distance through the fog I could see two white lights. I could barley see them through the thick fog but I knew it was a car. I went to put my foot down on the break, but instead hit the accelerator. I swerved into the car going at the speed of 170km.

I jolted forward and hit hard against my seat belt. My head was nocked about against the wind screen, but luckily for me I wasn't nocked out. Nor was I badly injured. Just a few cuts and bruise's, to bad I couldn't say the same thing about the other driver, she lay motionless on the cold hard road.

I went into panic. What had I done? Suddenly the alcohol wore off. My head began to pond, my hart was beating at the speed of a racing car.

I slowly and cautiously approached the woman that laid unconscious in the middle of the road in a small puddle of blood.

Her face had a massive cut right down the middle, her face was drained from all signs of life she was as pale as the mist that surrounded her mangled body.
She lay in an odd position, like her back was bent off key...like it was broken.

I reached into my pocket for my mobile phone and dallied 000 with my hand trembling in fear, I hoped she wasn't dead. Oh god, please don't be dead.

As I was waiting for the ambulance to arrive I looked down at the body, there was something about her. Her long brown hair, her thin body, her bright blue eyes, the way her perfectly shaped body curved.

Suddenly I felt weak, my legs nearly caved in under my body. I nearly through up, I began to sweat in panic. It was Michaela.
I had killed my best friend.

I broke down in tears. I lay over her holding her body in my arms.

"I'm sorry I'm so sorry," I cried. As rain began to fall heavily from they sky.
My life as I knew it ended that very moment.
