Spectre in the Studio, chapter 2

Saturday Morning

It was seven o'clock on an extremely cold Saturday morning. Rotting silence were meeting Miss Morini at Heathrow; she'd told them they need to get there three hours before the flight in case the flight was delayed or earlier or what have you. When the band arrived they were not that wide awake, at least Kelly and Teresa weren't, they were more used to waking up at around ten or eleven. Sophie was plugged into her ipod which was playing The Frustrators and Parmjot was engrossed with an article in Kerrang magazine.
"Hi, guys," Miss Morini greeted them as she met them in the parking lot getting their luggage and instruments out of the car. Teresa and Kelly just about groaned a 'good morning' whilst Sophie and Parmjot only really had the energy to wave. Miss Morini laughed, "surely you get up around this time for school!"
"Yeah," said Kelly, "we get up around this time, we don't get to school for this time." Miss Morini smiled,
"Don't worry, just think, in thirteen hours time you'll be in California." Teresa took hold of her bags and said,
"Can we go in? Cause I'm cold and need some coffee," so Miss Morini helped Rotting Silence take their stuff into the airport. If the thought of being California in thirteen hours time hadn't woken them up, then going inside the airport would have done; it was loud and bustling and it got excitement running through them at last. Teresa disappeared for about five minutes to go and get her coffee whilst the others found some place to hang out whilst they waited for their flight. The time seemed to drag by, and the band wondered why the hell they really need to be there so long before the flight was due. They found out when they were told their flight was gonna leave half an hour earlier than expected; at that point, Miss Morini gave them an 'I-told-you-so' look. The band smiled; they were gonna be in California half an hour earlier than they had thought.
When they boarded the flight, there was the small matter of who was gonna get the window seat. This was resolved by Miss Morini sitting in the window seat because she didn't want the girls getting sore with each other before they even stepped one foot in a different country. The girls just sat there stifling laughs; they were pretty stupid at times, window seat? Corr. Anyways, Parmjot sat next to Miss Morini on the right side whilst Teresa, Sophie and Kelly sat in the middle aisle thing. As the plane started to move, Teresa grabbed Sophie's arm.
"What the hell is up with you?" Sophie said, smiling.
"I've never told you this before but, I'm scared of flying." Teresa replied in a little scared voice.
"You've got to be kidding!" said Sophie, trying so damn hard not to laugh. Teresa smiled,
"Nah, I'm just messing with you." She said, Sophie shook her head. The captain then started speaking to the passengers.
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. I'd just like to thank you on behalf of the airline for flying with Virgin Atlantic. We hope your flight is enjoyable and we expect to land in San Francisco at approximately half seven in the evening. That will be the time in England, when we arrive in San Francisco the time will be half eleven in the morning... "
"Er, why are we not flying straight to California?" asked Teresa to Kelly and Sophie.
"Because Virgin Atlantic don't fly to California," Sophie said, "I looked on their website. We get a flight to San Francisco and then get the train over to California."
"I'm not really worried about where we land and how we get to California." Said Kelly, "I'm more concerned with the time we're gonna be arriving. Half eleven in the morning! That's like we never left the airport! We're gonna get such a bad case of jetlag."
"Better start catching some Zs now if you're that worried." Laughed Teresa, Kelly shook her head,
"I'm not sleeping now; I like the take off and landing." She replied. As the plane lifted off of the ground, Rotting Silence cheered, cause they're random like that, and the other passengers didn't seem to mind. Sitting next to Kelly was a kind of old man; he wasn't really old, he was possibly in his mid sixties. Kelly turned to him,
"Excuse me, sir. Do you like Green Day?" He smiled politely and said,
"Do what, love?" Teresa and Sophie smiled.
"Do you like Green Day?" she asked again.
"I'm afraid I'll have to ask you who or what Green Day is." He laughed.
"Green Day are a band." Sophie said in reply.
"Oh, I see. Well, I'm afraid I've never heard or seen this Green Day. Maybe you should bring me up to date with the music scene a little bit." He laughed quite a lot about that. Sophie, Teresa and Kelly laughed, too. Teresa leaned over to Parmjot and asked if there were any pictures of Green Day in her Kerrang magazine. There was! Hooray! So Parmjot passed the magazine to Teresa, open at the page with Green Day on it. She passed it to Kelly who then told the man, who they found out was called Charlie, each member's name and stuff like that.
"They're a fine looking bunch of young men, aren't they? I but they've got girls after them all over the world." This made Teresa, Sophie and Kelly giggle quite a bit. Sophie composed herself and asked,
"Would you like to hear some of Green Day's music?" He smiled and agreed. So Sophie got her ipod and gave it to him and she played him Basket Case, Stuck With Me, Time of Your Life, Minority and Wake Me Up When September Ends. After Sophie had taken her ipod back, Charlie seemed elated with what he had just heard.
"Well that was delightful!" he said. Just then, an air hostess came over to them.
"Is everything ok, sir?" she asked with that smile that all flight attendants seem to adopt.
"Oh yes. These young girls are introducing me to the world of Green Day." He chuckled. The air hostess also laughed a little laugh and looked at Teresa, Sophie and Kelly.
"Well, that's just swell." She said and walked off.
Throughout the flight, Kelly, Sophie and Teresa chatted with Charlie about random stuff, like the music he used to listen to when he was younger and school and stuff. The girls then asked him if he would like a picture of Green Day as a memento of today and so that he will never forget who Green Day are. He laughed, he laughed a lot, and said "certainly". So they took a picture of Green Day out of the Kerrang magazine and gave it to him. Over with Miss Morini and Parmjot, Miss Morini turned to Parmjot.
"We're gonna be landing soon. Look," she pointed out of the window, "it's the Golden Gate Bridge." Parmjot looked and saw it shining in all it's glory in the Californian sun, or the San Franciscan sun, whichever. Just then, the captain's voice sounded again.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain again. We are now approaching San Francisco International Airport; we'll be landing in approximately five minutes. The San Franciscan time is now 11:25 in the morning. The airline would especially like to thank Mr. Tré Cool for flying with us and also another thank you to everyone who has flown with us today." All of Rotting Silence were looking at each other.
"Did he just say Tré was on this flight?" Kelly asked in shock.
"I think," so said Miss Morini, who too seemed to be grinning. Then Charlie leant over to them.
"Ya hear that, girls? One of the young men you showed me is on the plane! How lucky for you." He chuckled again and sat back in his chair. Teresa was now finding it hard to breathe, which is what always happened when she gets herself too excited. The others were just as ecstatic,
"Do you think we'd be able to see him when we get off the plane?" asked Parmjot, as the plane started to land.
"Now, now girls. Even if you don't see him when we get off the plane, you'll be meeting him tomorrow anyway." Said Miss Morini, trying to make sure they didn't get their hopes up too early. Rotting Silence were now itching for the plane to touch down so they could get off the plane and try and find Tré. When the plane finally grinded to a halt and the symbol came up to say they could take off their seat belts, Rotting Silence were scrambling for everything they'd taken on board (which wasn't a lot anyway but they wanted to make sure they had everything) and they got out of their seats as soon as possible. When they got out of the aeroplane door and were walking down that strange passage way that kind of folds out, Charlie came up to them again.
"I hope you find him." He winked at them, like a lot of adults do, and then walked off. Outside the walk way, there were two chauffeurs standing next to each other. One, Brian, said to the other,
"Who are you waiting for?" The other chauffeur, called Chris, replied,
"Oh," he held up a piece of cardboard that said 'Rotting Silence & Miss T Morini'. "They're a girl punk band from England and their music teacher. The band members are only, like, around fourteen years old."
"Oh right." Said Brian, "where are you taking them?"
"880 Studios over in Oakland. They've got to drop their instruments off and stuff. What about you, who have you got?" He held up his cardboard,
"I've got that Tré Cool again, you know, the guy from Green Day. Last time he was in my car he drew all over my windows with red marker pen. It took me a week to get that off and it's tinted my windows pink. I'm taking him over to 880 Studios, too; I wonder if your band likes Green Day." Just then they both looked up and saw Tré walking over to them with a grin on his face; he obviously recognized Brian.
"Brian, buddy! How are you? Or, more importantly, how's the car?" he greeted, putting an arm round Brian's shoulders.
"The windows are pink." He replied, indifferently. Tré laughed,
"Oh yeah, sorry about that." He then looked over at Chris. "Hey, I know you, too. You're Chris aren't you?" Chris smiled and nodded.
"That's right. How's things?" he asked
"Pretty cool." He looked down at Chris' sign. "Rotting Silence, huh? That name rings a bell. That's a band name, right?" Chris nodded.
"Yeah I'm taking them over to 880... " It was at this point that Rotting Silence emerged from the walkway with Miss Morini leading the way.
"Hey look, there's a chauffeur waiting for us!" Miss Morini said. Then she stopped and faced the girls, she had a smile on her face. "Look who's with him." She turned back and Rotting Silence peered over to where Miss Morini was looking... and saw Tré! They gasped and ran over without a second thought. Brian saw them coming over,
"I think your band's here." He said. Chris and Tré both looked round and saw them too. When the girls actually got to them they hugged Tré without hesitation. Tré was slightly surprised and when Miss Morini joined them she pulled the girls away.
"I'm very sorry about them I didn't know they were gonna react quite like that." She said. Tré just laughed,
"No worries, I've experienced worse." Miss Morini then introduced herself and explained about their trip over to California and about the girls meeting Green Day and all of the stuff they were gonna being doing over the week. Tré then remembered where he had heard of the band name; Doug had obviously told the guys about them. They then got their luggage, got in their cars and made their way over to Oakland.
