A Trip To Remember, chapter 1
Sitting on a chair, watching the incoming storm roll in, had gotten boring. Soon ice cold drops fell from the darkened sky and pounded against the house in the blowing wind. My iPod was blasting Jared Leto's amazing voice singing "The Kill". While I was listening I was watching cars drive by and people running trying to take cover from the rain. Umbrellas went up and it instantly reminded me of the My Chemical Romance video Helena. I smiled to myself, thinking of the day when Pete and I screamed at the TV when they were on. My eyes wondered over to the picture frames that lay on top of the fireplace mantle. Pictures of Tyson and Nick in a squirt gun fight, Pete and Tyson playing soccer, Tyson trying to sing the Family Guy theme song. Memories flooded back and a grin formed on my face.
The song had ended and Blink 182's "I Miss You" came on. I won't be missing you all for very long, I thought. We, which is Tyson. Brendon, Pete, Nick, Ashley and I, are going to a cabin up in the mountains. It's pretty small but it will do. We went there before, without Ashley, when we were like eight or nine. It was up in the mountains and there wasn't really anything around it. The nearest town was about 5 miles from it. The view was breathtaking, especially during winter. This time it was fall, and the early winter rain storms had arrived last week. The leaves were long gone off the tree and left bare branches.
I Miss You slowly faded until it ended. I turned off my iPod and walked down the hall into my room. I double checked my bag, making sure I added my iPod and cell phone. Dang you Ritter, I thought, he was suppose to be here by now. I looked over at the clock again and it read 10:30. As if reading my mind, I heard the car tires on the wet pavement come to a halt. Then I heard footsteps thud against the steps leading up to the doorway. I went to go get the door. There stood a very wet Tyson. I laughed at his rushed appearance. He smirked and then gave me a hug; I felt the water and became wet.
"RITTER!" I yelled. Tyson laughed and sat down on the couch. I sighed, realizing he had gotten it wet. I heard the doorbell ring before I could yell at him. I pointed at him with my finger in a threatening way. Tyson poked his tongue out, and before I could yell the doorbell rang. "ONE SECOND!"
I walked over to the door and opened it. There stood Pete with a grin on his face.
"Hello Miss Zinger," He said stepping in the doorway, and closing the door behind him.
"Hello Mr. Wentz," I said following our inside joke on how to open the door. Yea...don't ask...
"Sup Tyson," He said, sitting in a nearby chair by the window.
"Nothing much, you Pete?" Tyson asked as I sat down on the couch next to Tyson. Pete muttered a nothing, and we settled into a comfortable silence. I was looking at all the scattered junk on the floor. I really need to clean this place up, I thought.
"Hey! When is Mr. Urie coming?" Pete asked looking at Tyson. Tyson smirked at me. Don't you dare Tyson... I thought. I told Tyson and Nick that I thought Brendon was hot. Pete lets just say...can't keep a secret worth heck.
"Hmm, I don't know," He said still smirking. Good at least Tyson can shut up, unlike Peter. I guess the saying "I spoke to soon" would be a good one to use now. Due to the fact that Tyson wasn't finished talking. "But, I'm sure Alexis would know. After all, she thinks he is the hottest guy in the world." Pete started cracking up with that adorable laugh he has. I sat there in complete horror. Tyson was laughing really hard, to the point where I thought he would explode.
"OH! Pete was under the list of people not to tell," Tyson said scooting over by me, and resting his chin on my shoulder.
"I'm sorry," He said giving me a hug. "Do you forgive me?" I shot him a dirty look and then looked at him. His lips were pouting and he was giving me the puppy eyes. Dang it, I guess when you know people for so long, they know your weakness. I stared into his beautiful blue eyes that I have always loved. That got me to give in.
"How could I say no to those pretty little eyes of yours?" I said sighing. Tyson smirked and kissed me on the chekk. He moved his head off of my shoulder and placed his arm around my shoulder. I leaned my head on my best friend's, of many years, chest. As if on a queue the doorbell rang again, right as I was getting comfortable.
"Peter could you get it?" I asked him giving him my innocent face. He at first refused, but then gave in. Pete sat up and mumbled something about us doing it ourselves. He opened the door and gave us an evil smile.
"Oh, Brendon, someone really wants to see you!" Pete said and I buried my head into Tyson's chest. A few seconds later I heard Tyson laugh. I felt his lips move as he told me to open my eyes. I did and saw Nick standing in front of me, with a slight smile playing at his lips.
"Sorry if I'm not Brendon honey," He said with a laugh. I smiled at him, Nick was the kind of guy that always smiled and could make everyone around him also. Nick opened his arms and I sat up giving him a hug.
"Mmm, I missed that," Nick said as I nodded my head. Nick was busy trying to move out of his parent's house and working so he could pay rent. I haven't seen him in a while. Nick and I let go, and he plopped down on the couch next to me.
"Gosh, will Brendon and...your friend ever get here?" Pete said pacing around the living room.
"Her name is Ashley, and yes they will get here," I said laughing at Pete, who got his foot stuck in the rug and fell.
"How long have you known her?" Tyson asked.
"Oh, not nearly as long as I have known Pete, Nick, Brendon and you," I said as Nick laughed.
"And you still haven't got sick of us?" Nick asked and laughter sounded throughout the room.
"Hell no!" I said looking back at Nick. Pete sat up from his position on the floor.
"Aww! Group hug!" Pete said launching himself onto the couch. Everyone moaned as Pete landed on them. Pete now had his legs on Tyson's lap, his butt in my lap (also sitting on my hands), and his upper body on Nick.
"My hands are numb !" I yelled at him. Pete let out a evil laugh that made me laugh as well.
"Pete, get off!" Tyson shouted. Just on time, that is before Tyson beat up Pete, the doorbell rang. Pete cackled and jumped up. He ran over toward the door yelling and shouting, at nothing in particular.
"Hello, you must be ... ?" I heard Ashley's voice ask. I looked over and saw Ashley's extended hand. Pete blushed and looked around in an embarrassed way. I smirked at Pete.
"I...my name...it's Pete," He said, stuttering and extending a shaking hand.
"Aww, Peter's got a crush!" Tyson whispered. Nick and I started laughing. I looked up at Tyson and Nick whose eyes were glowing with laughter. That made me smile even more. Seeing my friends like that. I missed being with Nick and Tyson and Pete. I was so happy that Ashley would get to meet them to and she can meet my best friends. I started thinking about this; Ashley's voice snapped me out of it.
"Hey Alex!" She said as I introduced her to everyone. When I finished, Ashley leaned over and whispered in my ear, "Wow! Pete is a hottie!" I laughed at this and she sat in the chair. Tyson and Nick both gave me a weird look, nothing gets past those two. I whispered what Ashley said and they both smirked and looked over at Pete.
The doorbell rang and Brendon was finally here. Oh great, I thought. I slowly walked over toward the door. My hands seemed to stop working as I attempted to turn the brass knob. They were trembling slightly. I managed to open them and there stood Brendon. His hair was getting long and was almost in his eyes. Brendon's brown eyes twinkled, and I then noticed he was still out in the rain. I welcomed my best friend in to my house. Before I could say anything, I felt his strong arms wrap around me, giving me a hug. I was startled by this and jumped slightly but slowly relaxed in his arms. When he let go, I felt his soft lips on my chekk. He smiled and walked into the kitchen. I closed the door, and turned around to see Tyson with a big grin on his face. He noticed me looking back and then he winked.
"Okay, let's get this show on the road!" Pete yelled, getting impatient with us. I ran back into my messy room, and grabbed my bag. When I finished I walked back into the living room and followed everyone else out the door. As soon as I stepped out, bags were all over the place. Everyone took their belongings and walked out to Tyson's SUV. Wait, a SUV has only five seats? I sighed and realized that only Tyson drove here.
"Okay, who decided to take a taxi or bus over here?" Pete asked and everyone besides Tyson and I raised their hands. Tyson sighed and everyone took off toward the car. I threw my bag, along with everyone else, into the back of the SUV. Pete threw his in first and took off toward the front of the car.
"Shotgun!" Pete yelled and hopped into the front seat.
"Wedding!" Brendon whispered softly. I laughed realizing it was a song in his notebook that he let me read once. At first we all glared at each other, not quite sure what to do. Then it was a race to the front end of the car, with a lot of pushing and yelling. The rain had luckily stopped, but the sky somehow told me it wouldn't be for long. The clouds were getting darker and were rolling around wildly. I had never seen them do that before, even with all the storms. I stopped looking at the sky, remembering it was a battle to get there first. I turned around, expecting to see no one, but Brendon waited up. He was giving me this peculiar look I couldn't quite tell what it was. It was a cross between concern and something else I didn't distinguish.
"Are you okay, Alex?" Brendon asked looking at me with that bizarre look. I nodded my head, and smiled at him. He grinned back and we walked up to the vehicle. Tyson was driving, no surprise there. Pete, of course, got shotgun. Nick was in the middle seat, and Ashley was to the left of him. Oh Great, Brendon and I get to double buckle I thought. Well I mean, we are best friends, he just happens to be a really hot best friend.
"Someone's got to double buckle!" Pete yelled, laughing. Tyson looked up in the rear-view mirror, and our eyes met. He gave me an understanding look that only a best friend could give. I shot Pete a death glare.
"Yea, if you don't shut up, it's going to be you and Ashley!" Tyson said. Pete sat up and Ashley blushed. I grinned back in the mirror at Tyson. I jumped into the car and sat by Nick, who gave me a warm smile. Brendon sat down next to me and I buckled the seatbelt. Thank god it wasn't those stupid shoulder strap ones. I looked at the back of Pete's seat for a while. Then the rain came as soon as Tyson started to drive.
The sky was getting darker and didn't show any indication as to when the downpour would cease. I looked out the slightly fogged up window and saw building and people with umbrellas running around. I felt kind of awkward being right next to Brendon. I could feel him breathing and I couldn't relax at all. I decided to take my mind off of him and looked at the clock. We had only been driving for a half an hour. Pete was grabbing any useless items that were within his reach. Tyson was shaking his head at Pete. Ashley was sound asleep, Brendon was looking out the side window, and Nick was starring out the front window. Nick felt me looking at him, so he looked back at me. Nick's eyes drifted ever so slightly up, and a smile formed on his face. I mouthed what and he jerked his eyes upward again. I glanced up and saw Brendon looking back. He was still giving me that odd look.
"You sure you're okay Alex?" Brendon asked again. I looked at him and nodded my head, giving him a confused look. He mumbled a, "no reason" and I frowned. Nick shrugged when I looked back at him. Pete found an empty coke can and broke off the part you use to open the can. He examined it for a few seconds before chucking it back. It hit Nick in the forehead.
"OWWW! Pete!" Nick yelled throwing his hands up by his head. The next few seconds consisted of Tyson yelling at Pete, Ashley waking up, and of course Nick screaming at Pete. Aww poor Peter. Nick slowly removed his hands from his head and they were covered in blood. Ashley screamed and I unbuckled my seatbelt.
"There are some band aids and stuff in the front pocket of my bag," Tyson said, glancing back in the mirror. I nodded my head as I crawled into the back of his SUV. Finding Tyson's blue bag, I unzipped it and grabbed a cleaning cloth and some band aids. I managed to crawl back and Nick unbuckled his seatbelt. Nick uncovered it and came closer so I could fix his cut. I took a cloth and dabbed lightly at the scratch. As I examined the scar, it looked like the jagged part of the metal hit him. After a few minutes, the blood clotted, and I could add a band aid.
"Thanks," He said as I nodded my head. Nick grabbed the seatbelt and paused. "Oh, screw it, we are squished back here anyway." Brendon, Nick, and I laughed. After we fell silent and Ashley's snores filled up the car. I started to relax and Tyson let out a yawn. The rain still showed no sign of letting up and the sky continued to grow darker. Even though it was morning, it looked like it was almost night fall. I felt Nick squirming, in attempt to find a contented place to sleep. After a few minutes of watching him and his failed attempts, I laughed. Nick shot me an evil glare making me laugh harder. He smirked and then laid his feet on the seat, and plopped his head in my lap. I glanced down at him (he had his face looking at the top of the car). Nick's closed eyes opened revealing his green ones. A grin fashioned on his face, causing me to laugh.
"Man, I love you Nick!" I said as he smiled more. I looked back at him, his eyelids were getting heavy. "Take a nap sweetie." Nick raised two fingers up to his mouth and kissed them. He then raised his fingers up to my lips. His soft fingers rested on my lips. I glanced down at Nick, who was looking back. I smiled and kissed his fingers. I felt his fingers gradually depart my lips, and he kissed his fingers again. This is what we do when either Nick or I want to go to sleep. We started this in second grade.
"Goodnight sweetheart," Nick said before closing his pretty, green eyes.
"Goodnight hon," I whispered back.
The song had ended and Blink 182's "I Miss You" came on. I won't be missing you all for very long, I thought. We, which is Tyson.
