From My Broken Home to the Gilman, chapter 3

*Ringo's P.O.V.*
I sprung out of bed. It felt so good to get a couple extra hours of sleep. I felt like I could run forever...I had to get Maria up because it was dark out and we gotta get going. So I went over and tapped her shoulder. "Maria, its dark now; come on...get up!" She rolled over and looked up at me half awake. I could tell she was up so I went over and got Mark up.
He jumped up and seemed really shocked. He looked around for a minute. His eyes got really big when he saw me, but then calmed down when he realized who I was. "Goddammit... don't do that!" he said tiredly.
"Well, we have to go...." I told him.
"Yeah, I know...I'm up, ok?" he seemed grouchy.
"Whatever, let's get ready," I said. Maria was already throwing our stuff into a bag. Mark was sitting on the couch and I was helping Maria. Mark stood up and asked "You guys ready?"
"Sure..." Maria said.
So we walked out of the building, carrying our stuff. A few minutes later, I asked "Are you guys hungry?" Mark looked over and said "yeah, but if you'd like to save whatever it is that you have, we can go to the café across the street. I've got a few bucks." We walked across the street and had some coffee and donuts.
"So, why exactly are you guys running to Oakland?" Mark asked.
"Well, we have to get out of here first of all... and I have a cousin in Oakland. And we're just going. I don't really know how to explain it right now..." Maria said. "So who are you looking for and still, why Oakland?" Mark seemed really confused.
"Her cousin, Billy, hates it up here and refuses to visit; but says he'll protect her from any trouble that might happen out there. Once we get there, we can stay at his house and hang out with him and his friends... it'll be great!" I explained.
"I get it now, but what will I do?" Mark asked.
"You can stay with us mark, we won't just leave you!" Maria said. Mark was really cool, and he was helping us, so we couldn't just let him randomly take off once we were in Oakland. He had to stick around. He looked at me sort of weird then said "so what do you think of me? Maria says I can't go... so she thinks I'm cool or something like that. But you usually only talk to me to answer questions. What's up Ringo?" I took a drink of my coffee then looked at him and said "I don't hate you if that's what you think...I just don't really have anything to say. I'm sorry!" I took another drink of my coffee.
*Maria's P.O.V.*
I began thinking about Oakland and what Billy's friends might be like. I've never met them. I've been to Billy's house, but he's moved since then. So honestly, I only knew that we were going to Oakland. A couple seconds later Ringo was snapping her fingers in front of my face. "Maria, you should hurry up and finish your coffee so we can get out of here and back on our way." She said. I looked around for a minute then said "oh, ok... hold on." I drank down the rest of my coffee then walked over to the phone.
I called Billy's house. This time he answered the phone. "Hello?"
"Hey Billy! We're on our way and we got a new friend." I told him.
"Oh, ok... so when do you plan on being here?" he asked.
"Um, give us a couple more days. I'll call you when we're in Oakland. I gotta go now, bye!" I said then hung up the phone. Ringo and Mark both looked at me kind of weird then Ringo asked "Are you just about ready to go?" I looked down then said "Yeah, let's go." They stood up then Mark asked "What's up?" I looked up at him funny then asked "What do you mean what's up?"
"Am I on my own or are you guys keeping me around?" he sounded confused.
"I already told you, you're staying with us! We won't just let you take off!" I said.
We walked out and left our money on the table. It was actually pretty quiet at night. You could only hear certain things; like our footsteps on the ground, cats going off at each other, and dogs howling for some unknown reason. It felt really good to know that we would soon be in California... Surprisingly, we still had thirty dollars; so we could make a few more stops on the way.
***The Next Day: We decided not to sleep right now, but instead keep moving on. None of us were tired, so we didn't need to sleep. We're actually almost in Oakland. We just made it into California. Ringo looked over and asked "Can we take a break? My legs are hurting!" Mark and I said "Yes!" and sat down at the exact same time.
Then we decided that since we made it into California, we could use some sleep. So we found a small place and fell asleep.
