The Isaac Effect., chapter 14

Part 2
THE TAIL OF JICOBI

I could taste blood in the back of my throat; every breath I took was like sand paper rubbing against the back of my neck. I opened my eyes, and stared threw the crack. Not daring to blink, yet not wanting to look.

I held my hand tightly over his eyes and hugged him closely in my arms.
Tears streamed down my face. I didn't dare to move, not a single muscle. I was holding him so tightly I think I might have hurt him. But I would prefer him to be in a little pain, and live then be dead. I gasped for air, and watched out the crack, beads of sweat dripping down my forehead.

The hairs on my arms stood up like soldiers standing to attention.
I didn't let go of him. I may have been comforting him, but he was comforting me a whole lot more.

I squinted through the crack, I could see the men wearing nothing but black and balaclavas over their faces to keep their identity's celled, masking there faces.
They made their way threw the house like it was a dump, violently bashing over the chairs and tables destroying everything that stood in their way.

There were four of them. All big, strong, broad-shouldered men. They all looked strong enough to walk threw brick walls.

'Why are they here?' I couldn't help but ask myself. 'Who are they?'

But time was running out, they began to open and pull out everything from inside the cupboards. They got closer, and closer towards the one in which we were hiding.

I had to make a run for it. But I had no hope of running with my leg on my own, little lone with Jicobi with me. I had him to protect. I could hear them getting closer; the loud sounds of the crashing pots grew closer. My heart raced at the speed of light, my eyes peered threw the cracks.

I held him tighter; I could feel him shacking in pure fear. I listened, and watched.
I knew that the cupboard we were in would be next. I took a deep breath and prepared myself for it.

The masked man wrenched open the cupboard door, nearly pulling it from its hinge's. I saw an evil little grin spread across his face when he knew he had found us.

Then in a sudden burst of adrenaline a launched my good foot at him, forcing him to fall to the ground. He groaned loudly in pain as he landed on the shattered glass.

The three other men jolted their heads towards us. Knowing where we hid.
I dashed myself to my feet, still holding onto Jicobi for my life.

The three other men rushed over the reins which once was my kitchen, I tried to run. But my leg just wouldn't hold it. I panicked I could see them coming. I shielded Jicobi with my body as one of them smashed a metal rod over my back. I let out a loud shriek in pain. I let go of Jicobi and feel to the ground. Jicobi turned back and looked at me, he's eyes filled with fear. I could see the third masked mana bout to grab him.

"Run Jicobi! Run!" I yelled. Tears filling my eyes.

He was trembling in fear. I could tell by the look in his face, he was too terrified to move. The look in his eye, it took something from me.

He was so scared, so terrified, he needed me, and I was laying helplessly on the ground.

"Shut up you!" the masked man yelled whacking me again with the metal rod. I let out another cry.

This time I couldn't breath. I gasping for air, I gazed into Jicobi's eyes. He stood trembling. The masked man hit me again, this time harder. The pain wrenched over me like nothing before. I choked, and gasped desperately for air. I felt as if I was going to throw up, a sickening, pain filled feeling came over me. My mouth gaped open and I coughed up clumps of my own blood.

My throat throbbed in pain, my spine was inches away from being broken.
The third masked man was getting closer to Jicobi, he was still frozen with fear.

I lay on the ground covered in shattered glass for a minute and watched Jicobi.
I couldn't let this happen. I promised I wouldn't! I groaned. Blood ran down my face from a gash on my fore head from the broken glass. I pulled myself up, with my arms, using every last bit of strength. I let out a yell of pain, and adrenaline. I dashed up onto my feet. Forgetting all pain, forgetting everything.
I grabbed Jicobi off his feet and made a desperate dash for it. Cradling Jicobi in my arms.

A thin piece of metal came crashing across the back of my head. I lost control I dropped Jicobi, I feel to the ground. Landing on more shattered glass, and broken plates and bits of shattered everything.

"Daddy!" Jicobi cried. Tears filling his eyes.

I lay, unable to move gazing up at him. I went to call back, no words came. I tried to shout, but each time nothing came, but more blood and a sawing pain in my throat.

I looked up at him. Desperate for words. I lipped the words "I love you" to him.
He looked at me, tears in his eyes. "Run!" I lipped.

He turned and dashed out the room, luckily he was small enough to dodge under their legs as they tried to block him at the exit. He ducked under them and made a dash for the exit.

I felt a shadow of relief fall over me when I knew he had gotten away.

One of the masked men, the one that I had kicked over, haled me up off the ground to my feet.

He pulled out some duck tape from his belt, and tightly wrapped it around my wrists behind my back. I was too weak to even try to struggle free.
He held me up, my feet barely holding my weak frail body up.

"You coward!" One of the masked men snarled in my face, spitting as he spoke. One of the masked men went after Jicobi. The last one came over to me. The two of them stood in front of me, looking down at my frail, beat up, skinny body.

"Hiding in the cupboard like a little girl!" he snarled. Leaving big bits of spit on my face.

Blood ran down from my lips, my fore head was also bleeding. My legs trembling in weakness.

"I was protecting my son!" I yelled, but all that came out was struggled words and a stain in my throat.

"Yeah, yeah, and what a great job you did!" he snarled.

Pointing over at the door, as the last man came in holding Jicobi who was desperately struggling to get free. The masked man held his hands tightly behind his back. Jicobi kicked his feet in the air, lifting the rest of his body off the ground. In an attempt for freedom. My heart dropped.

"Take me, but leave the boy out of it!" I cried straining my throat.

"I'm afraid Isaac, were done dealing with your family," He snarled.

The masked man pulled out a sack to cover Jicobi's head.

"NO!" I cried.

"Stop! Just tell me what you want! I'll give it to you! I promise!" I begged. Tears streaming down my face.

"Just let the boy go. He's a child!" I begged. My straining voice began to fade.

"I'm sorry Isaac, but you cant give us what we want, you've already destroyed it." He said softly into my ear.

The masked man holding Jicobi pulled a sack over Jicobi's head. Jicobi screamed. He instantly began to struggle and kick. His cries echoed in my ears.

"Daddy!!" he screamed. "Daddy!"

Tears Streamed down my face. "Jicobi!" I cried.

Then a sack was pulled over my head. It was like that sack took away the world that surrounded me.

"Jicobi!" I cried. As I herd his screams become more distant.

"I love you," I said softly as his cries despaired into the darkness of the night.

I was alone. The darkness filled the air. I knew I was in a van of some sort. But I was alone. No one could hear me, even if I yelled as loud as my lungs could.

But I still yelled, I yelled for my son until I could feel my own throat caving in. The tears dried up around my eyes.

"Jicobi!" I screamed.

Beads of sweat dripping down my face, I grew weaker, my legs shook. I couldn't of stood up if I wanted to. Everything began to shake.

I was locked in a dark wet room... my cries echoed in the empty walls around me.

"Jicobi!"

The only reply I received was my own empty echo.
