Alice In Wonderland, chapter 7
I finished off my last piece of cheese toastie then got up off my seat and put the plate down in the sink. I turned around and looked at my mum who was reading the newspaper. I smiled at her secretly then ran upstairs and reached for the phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey Billie, its Alice." I swivelled the telephone chord around my finger when I heard his voice.
"Uh...hi. Umm...how did you get my number?"
"School Directory. Look Billie I really appreciate you taking me home last night...well this morning."
"Oh yeah. No don't worry about it. I just wanted to make sure you got home okay. You all right now?"
"Yeah. I'm fine thanks."
"Great..."
"Do you wanna go down to the lake this afternoon. Just me and you...and no weed," I laughed.
"Umm...actually I'm kinda busy."
"Oh. Okay. What about tomorrow afternoon?"
"Well same there actually. I've got band practice."
I frowned.
"Okay...what about after band practice?"
"Look Alice. I'm sorry but I can't. Maybe some other time."
"But..."
"Bye Alice."
He hung up the phone before I was able to say anything. I frowned in confusion then slammed the phone down. What the hell was his problem? As I suddenly realized, I rubbed my hands over my face then walked downstairs angrily.
"Mum, what did you say to him?" I asked her calmly. Although I could feel the anger build up inside again.
"Hmm?" She looked up from the dishes she was doing.
"I said what did you say to him?!" I said it a little bit louder through my gritted teeth.
"Who?"
"To Billie." She knew bloody well what I was going on about.
"Well, I told him I never wanted him to communicate with you in any way or I would call the police." She smiled. My anger flooded the kitchen as I burst into tears.
"You fucking bitch!" I screamed at her. "How could you? Just as things started to get better!" I grabbed the glass she was in the middle of washing up and threw it hard against the wall. She was just stood there in shock staring at me with her eyes glistening from the water welling up in them. "I fucking hate you! Do you know that? You always think about yourself! It's always about you. How you're so upset about Pete's death. How you're so upset that dad left. How you're so upset about everything and anything that evolves around you! Well I have news: you're not the only one with problems! So how dare you go and ruin the only thing I've got?"
Tears were running down her face like she was the one who was supposed to be upset. I made up my mind when she put her hand on my cheek, smiled sympathetically and said,
"My dear Alice. You have so much to learn."
I screamed and pushed her away with force causing her to fall onto the floor.
"I hate you," I whispered to her then turned on my heel and stormed upstairs into my room. I grabbed anything worth taking with me and stuffed it into my backpack. Then I put my hair into a messy bun and walked through the kitchen where my mum was sat with her knees pressed against her chest shaking. I looked at her for hopefully the last time then stormed out of the house and made my way to the lake.
