2000 Light Years Away, chapter 1

It was midnight in my home in Minnesota, 1990. Once again I heard my sister, Amelia, stumble in from a concert. The latch on the door clicked behind her. But this time, it wasn't just Amelia's drunk hiccups and giggles that echoed through the hall, but a guy's voice as well.
"Would you like a drink?" She asked, tottering across the hall floor to the kitchen.
"No, thanks," The guy groaned. "I think I've drunk enough tonight."

I could tell by his voice instantly. "He's a rockstar," I whispered to myself. I didn't even know the guy, all I had heard was him say a few words but already I felt a pang of jealousy. Amelia always gets the guys. Last year, I had the 'perfect' boyfriend. His name was Mitch and I loved him so much until the day I walked in on them kissing. I was so upset I hit them both! I threw Mitch out of the house and banned Amelia from seeing him because I was so mad at them both. I've never forgiven Amelia for that and I don't think I ever will. I mean, I still love her, she's my sister. But I don't think I like her! Maybe this was my chance to get my revenge.
"Do you want to meet my family?" Amelia asked.
"Erm, maybe in the morning," the guy said, yawning, "I mean, it is a bit late to be waking everyone up."
"Oh, okay," She said, sounding a little disappointed. "But you can meet my sister, Adrienne, she won't mind."

"Yes I do!" I thought to myself. This was it, from what I can imagine, this gorgeous guy my sister brought home and him seeing me in my nightdress with my make-up smudged and my hair in a mess! No thanks! I bet Amelia was doing it on purpose, why else would she just pick on me? I've always had problems with my sister. Never with my brothers - I love my brothers to bits, but maybe it's because I'm just a few years older than her, which means we always have trouble trying to out-do each other.

I started to hear Amelia's stilettos walk up the stairs. I tried to wipe the sticky black eyeliner off from my face and tried to do something with my hair and dreadlocks so they wouldn't look too bad.
"This is my sister's room," I could hear a hint of disgust in her voice as she turned the handle on my door and pushed it open. I pretended to be asleep.
"Adrienne! Adie!" she snapped "Wake up! I want you to meet someone!"
My eyes opened. "Adrienne, this is Billie Joe. Billie Joe, this is Adrienne."

My eyes met the most beautiful man standing at the foot of my bed. He was wearing black converse allstars and black leather pants, with a black hoodie. He had blonde hair and the most gorgeous green eyes ever.
He held out his hand for me to shake.
"Erm...um...hi," I stuttered like a idiot.
"Hi," Billie Joe said, sounding a little nervous himself.
"Sorry about this," I said, shaking his hand, "I mean, I don't usually look too great at midnight."

I smiled sarcastically at my sister and let go of Billie's hand. Amelia chose to ignore me and carried on talking.
"Billie's from California," She said. "From, Oakland, California. AREN'T you Billie?!" She boasted loudly. "AND he's the lead singer and guitarist of the band I saw!"
"Wicked!" I said. I was sounding pleased for Billie, not Amelia. "How's the band going?" I asked Billie.
"Well-" Billie started to talk but Amelia interrupted.
"They've just made their first album!" She said.
"I asked Billie!" I snapped back. "Anyway, I need my beauty sleep!" I laughed "So I'll see you too in the morning, yeh?"
"Yeah," Billie replied.

By this time, Amelia had already stormed out of my room. When Billie had shut the door behind him with a smile, I flopped back on my bed, madly in love.
