2000 Light Years Away, chapter 10
I woke up the next morning - trying to remember what happened the night before. My eyes scanned the room until they met Billie. He was lying on his side, just staring at me.
"Hey." He said softly.
"Hey." I replied. Billie had a huge grin on his face. So did I. I knew exactly what he was grinning about.
We finally got up and got dressed. We came out from the bedroom and went into the lounge. John and Tre were drawing all over Mike, who was still fast asleep.
"Dammit!" Tre whispered. "They're awake!"
Billie laughed.
"Yeah, we were gonna draw on you next!"
"So... .What happened?!" John laughed. "And don't lie to me - I can tell by Billie's hair!"
I knew exactly what they were talking about and we both went red and shuffled into the kitchen for something to eat. Billie shoved some bread into the toaster and flicked it on.
"So....what are we up to today then?" I asked, jumping up and sitting on the kitchen side.
"I dunno." Billie said. "We could, y'know, go somewhere?" I grinned.
"Hmm...that would be good!" I said, a hint of sarcasm in my voice.
"I'll ask Mike," Billie said. He walked out of the kitchen and back into the lounge. I could hear him answering. A little while later, Billie came back in.
"Well...." He said, "Mike wants to stay in and practice this new song, 2000 Light Years Away, Tre wants to...well...I won't say and John doesn't mind." I thought about it.
"To be honest, I don't mind either. Mike's idea sounds good and knowing what Tre's mind is like, I don't really wanna do what he's suggesting!" Billie laughed.
"Okay. You and John can help us practice this new song. Maybe you could do a duet with me!"
My eyebrows shot up.
"Believe me, Billie, you don't want me croning away on your song. It'll totally ruin it and I'll never want to listen to it again!"
Billie looked like he didn't believe me but I was being deadly serious. I can't sing to save my life.
After we'd had breakfast we all set up the stuff for the song. John dragged the drum kit over for Tre and Billie and Mike set up the microphones. When everything was ready Billie stood at the front with his guitar, trying to pick the right tune. When he had, he started to play and sing along. Mike joined in with the bass and then Tre picked the right beat on the drums. After about five minutes, they already had to chorus done. John and Me clapped along like idiots which made Mike crack up laughing and they had to stop.
"Sorry!" I said.
"Me too!" Mike said through laughter. Billie rolled his eyes and smiled. They carried on. This time after the chorus, Billie carried on playing and juts improvised. Straight away he'd come up with a verse.
"Oh my God! How do you do that?" I asked, amazed.
"I'm not that good!" Billie laughed, "I was thinking about it all last night and I managed to come up with the first verse."
"Oh." I said, smiling.
They carried on and finally Billie dragged me up to sing with him. It went okay - I was just singing really quietly so you could only really hear Billie!
