2000 Light Years Away, chapter 4
Half way there, my cell phone started ringing. Without thinking, I asked Amelia to answer if for me as I was driving.
"Hello?" She said. After a few seconds, her face turned into a sour scowl and she slammed the phone back down.
"Careful!" I cried, "Who was it?"
"Wrong number," She mumbled. I pulled up at Lauren's and she got out of the car. "Bye." She scowled.
"What's up with her?" I said to myself, driving away.
I collected the jeans from work and drove home. I went up to my bedroom, said 'hi' to my bro, Aaron, and shut the door behind me. I sat down at my computer and started surfing the net when my cell phone rang again.
"For the love of God!" I sighed picking it up.
"Hello?" I sighed.
"Adrienne?" A familiar voice said brightly.
"Oh my God! Billie!" I said.
"Yeah, that's me!" He laughed.
"Oh my God, how are you? Where are you? Are you okay?" I fired questions at him.
"Woah, woah, calm down!" He said. "I'm fine, actually I'm great. I'm just about to board the plane back to Oakland with Mike. It won't take too long, hopefully. Mike says hi! Oh yeah, and how are you?"
"I'm fine thanks, that's great! You're okay!"
"Yeah. But there is one thing."
"Yeah? What's up?"
"Oh - you don't know?" Billie said.
"Erm....no?"
"Oh, okay, well a few minutes ago I called you and Amelia answered. When I realized it was her I tried to put on a different voice, but she knew it was me. She hung up right after I asked for you," Billie explained. I gasped.
"She told me if what some wrong number. No wonder she was all moody and annoyed."
"Yeah," Billie said.
"What are we gonna do? I mean we can't just say 'sorry Amelia - but we love each other -" I broke off.
"What?" Billie said quickly. I gasped again.
"Oh - oh - no - nothing," I stuttered.
"You, you said we loved each other. You did, I heard you."
"Oh, Billie, it was an accident! I didn't mean to."
"Well, you should of meant it," Billie said blankly.
"Huh?"
"You should of meant what you said."
"Why?"
"Oh, Adrienne! Don't you see?" Billie cried, "I love you! I always have!"
"Billie!" I cried too, "I love you too! As soon as I saw you - I fell in love straight away!"
"Me too, me too!"
We were in silence afterwards, until Billie spoke.
"...Yeah, so we can't just say that."
"No, no....we'll just say something else."
"No we won't," Billie said firmly. I was confused.
"Okay, Billie, you're really starting to confuse me now!"
"Look, it's her fault. She started this big sisterly rival you've got going on. Why should you say anything. She doesn't deserve an apology until she says sorry to you first. Even if she starts screaming at you - hitting you - whatever! I want you to act like you couldn't give a damn. Please."
"Okay, I'll try....but Billie -"
"Babe," He said softly, I tingled. "Do it for me, please, I have to go. I love you. Bye."
Before I could say 'bye' back, he'd hung up.
I carried on typing on the computer when a massive roar errupted from behind me.
"IS THIS SOME SORT OF SICK REVENGE!" Someone cried. I spun round, there, standing fuming in my doorway was Amelia. There she was, in her knee high pink boots, black mini skirt, tight red top, mascara and lipstick smudged all round her face and a blonde mop on top of her head. 'What a mess!' I thought - but this wasn't the time for insults.
"So?!" She screamed. "Is it?!" I was just about to start saying sorry and that lot, but I remembered what Billie said to me. Instead, I rolled my eyes and turned back round to my computer. Amelia breathed in hard and stormed off, slamming her bedroom door so hard it made the house shake.
Sisters - who'd have 'em?
