A Night You Won't Forget, chapter 3
Andrew first helped Megan out of the room before leading the others out of the bus. The three band members passed by their dead bus driver before exiting the bus. After they were out side the bus Andrew pointed out the mustang behind the bus.
"Our friends are in there," Andrew said.
"Is that car useable?" Billie asked.
"No, it's totaled." Megan answered him. She stayed near Andrew, making sure there was enough distance between her and the band members.
The five of them walked over to the mustang. Holly had finished patching up Adam's forehead using bandages out of the safety kit in the back when she looked up to see Andrew and Megan walking towards the car with three people she could not believe was with them.
"Megan? Andrew? Is that... " Holly asked as she got out of the car.
"Yeah, it's Green Day," Andrew answered. They reached the car and wait for the others to get out. Kelley got out from the left side as Adam climbed out after Holly on the right.
"Now what?" Adam asked.
"Wait, there's a house up ahead." Tre chimed in.
"What?" Andrew asked.
"Are you sure?" Kelley asked. Tre nodded his head yes.
"That's what we saw before we crashed. Or at least that's what the driver was yelling back at us," Mike stated.
"What happened then?" Megan asked.
"I have no idea, I think we hit something or whatever," Mike answered.
"It doesn't matter any more, we have to head to that house," Billie said. Everyone agreed. Billie led them in the direction where the house was.
The eight of them were walking not but ten minutes when the outline of a house came into view. The spirits of the group lifted as the reached the house. There was an iron gate blocking them from their only source of help.
"This place looks really old," Holly stated.
"I don't think anyone lives here," Andrew said.
"You guys. The gate isn't locked," Adam cried out. He opened the gate with ease and watched as the others walked in looking embarrassed.
"Okay whatever let's just check this place out," Tre said impatiently.
The walk to the front porch of the house was a strange one. The yard surrounding the yard looked as if it were a set in a horror movie. The only thing it was missing was the cemetery. There was barely any grass and if there were any patches of grass it was brown and dry. It looked as if no one had lived here for years.
"I honestly think there is no one here," Kelley stated.
The eight of them reached the front porch. They all stopped just short of the door, no one moved.
"Well?" Megan asked.
"Well what?" Billie asked.
"Are we going in?"
"Should we knock?" Holly asked.
"We might as well just go in, I don't think any one lives here anymore. Who keeps their yard like this?" Adam responded.
No one moved an inch.
"Oh give me a break." Megan sighed as she opened the door. The door slowly creaked open as everyone glanced inside.
The inside of the house was just as bad as the outside. It too looked as if no one had lived there for years. There was dust on the walls, shelves and floors of the house. The windows were dusted over, the furniture looked as if the second you sat on them you would fall through. Even the staircase leading up to the second floor looked untrustworthy. The house was rundown and yet welcoming at the same time. At least the gang knew there was no one there to kick them out.
"Should we even bother looking for a phone? Who says it would even work?" Andrew asked sarcastically. "Just look for anything that we could use."
The eight wandered the first floor. Andrew, Megan and Kelley went and looked around in the kitchen while Adam, Holly and Billie looked around in the large living room. Across the hallway Mike and Tre were gazing around the Dining Room.
"How big was this family?" Tre asked. The two of them gazed at the large table before them. "This thing could fit fifteen people."
Meanwhile back in the kitchen Andrew had finally found what they were looking for.
"There's a phone," Andrew said. He walked over to the phone on the wall, he did not however pick it up. "Should we try it?"
"Why not?" Megan sighed.
Andrew picked up the receiver and held it to his ear. Megan and Kelley watched hopefully to hear good news. But were disappointed. The phone was dead.
"Nothing," Andrew said.
"Damn it." Kelley swore.
"Well if there's no working phone and no one here, why stay?" Megan asked.
"We might as well use this place as a shelter before the night passes so we don't go out wandering around in the dark," Andrew answered. The three of them walked across the floor and into the living room.
"We found a phone, but it's dead," Megan told the others.
"So what are we going to do?" Holly asked.
"I say we stay here for the night. I'm assuming there are beds upstairs. And by the look of this place there have to be enough for everyone. Or at least for some of us to double bunk," Andrew said.
"Alright I'll go tell Mike and Tre," Billie said as he exited the room.
"Tre check this out!" Mike cried out from the opposite side of the dining room. Tre left his interest in the plates set on the table and followed his friend to the other side of the room.
"What is it?" Tre asked.
"I don't know," Mike said.
The two were looking at a tiny hole in the wall. The hole was large enough to see though yet small enough to miss if one was just looking at the wall.
"Do you think these people were peeping toms?" Tre said with a laugh.
"Tre. In a dining room?" Mike asked with a serious look on his face.
"Yeah you're right," Tre said, feeling stupid.
The two suddenly heard a noise out in the hallway. Mike looked at Tre and Tre looked at Mike. It sounded like footsteps coming towards the dining room.
"It's probably Billie or one of those kids who found us," Tre explained. There was a worried tone to his voice Mike did not enjoy.
"They're in the opposite direction," Mike said.
The two stared at the door leading out of the room. There were two doors in the room they were standing in. The one they came in through, and the one the sound came in through. Mike slowly started for the door. His hand reached out for the door knob slowly.
"Guys!" Billie shouted. Both Mike and Tre jumped. Billie let out a laugh at his friend's expense. "They found a phone but it was dead. We're staying here for the night. What were you doing?"
"We thought we heard a noise from behind this door," Mike answered. "We're staying here? In this house?"
"Why are you scared?" Billie asked with a smile on his face.
"No, of course not. It's just creepy that's all," Tre answered for both him and Mike.
"Come on, we should probably get some sleep before we head out tomorrow morning," Billie said. The three of them left the room. As Mike was leaving he gave one last glance behind him to see the door they were just standing by begin to open. Mike stopped dead in his place. Billie and Tre continued to leave, not noticing their friend was not with them anymore.
Curiosity got the best of Mike. He started to make his way back towards the now open door. Once he reached the door he grabbed it and started to swing it back and forth, testing the strength of the door. He then popped his head out into the darkened hallway he thought was the same hallway his friends were in. He soon found out it wasn't.
Out of no where two hands reach out of the darkness, grab held of Mike's shoulders, and pulled him into the blackness. Mike didn't even have enough time to scream out for help. He was already lost to the dark.
His friends didn't even know he was missing.
"Our friends are in there," Andrew said.
