A Night You Won't Forget, chapter 4
"He's just playing around," Tre said. "I know this guy. He does it a lot."
"Yeah he's probably just trying to have a little fun while we're here. That's just like him to do that." Billie encouraged the five teenagers sitting in front of them.
They were all huddled in one room on the second level. Megan and Kelley were sitting on one bed while Adam and Holly were crawled up together on the floor. Andrew was standing next to the bed Megan and Kelley were on.
"We'll look for him if it gets too late and he doesn't pull the prank by then," Billie assured them.
"What if something actually did happen to him?" Megan asked. "How would we know he was in trouble? This place is so big."
"You'll never find him by yourselves. We should take turns looking. Shifts maybe," Holly added.
"Whatever will help you sleep," Tre said.
As they had said before, Billie and Tre took the first shift and set out to look for Mike. Andrew sat down on the bed right next to the one Megan and Kelley was sitting on.
"I'm sure everything is fine," Andrew said. "You guys should get some sleep."
"Andrew and I will sleep in the room right across the hall." Adam said. He kissed Holly on the forehead before standing up. "I'll be in the room," he said to Andrew.
"I want to see your room too," Holly said. She got up with Adam and walked out of the room. Kelley stood up from the bed.
"Where are you going?" Megan asked her.
"I've got to use the bathroom," Kelley answered her. She gave Megan a little wink before exiting the room, leaving Megan and Andrew alone.
"Something tells me she doesn't have to use the bathroom," Andrew said.
"Now why would you say that?" Megan smiled at him.
"She used it not five minutes ago before Billie and Tre noticed Mike was gone," Andrew said. A silence fell between them when the topic of Mike came up.
"I wonder what happened to him," Megan said.
"Again, I'm sure he's fine," Andrew assured her. Andrew got up from his bed and sat down next to Megan on hers. The two sat there in silence for a split second. Megan's heart began to race. She wanted to tell Andrew what has been on her mind for weeks now. But there was also something else on her mind that was more important at the time.
"There's something wrong with this house," she said to him. Andrew looked her in the eyes.
"What do you mean?" Andrew asked.
"I don't know. Just the second I walked in this place it felt... wrong. Like something was wrong here or something wrong is about to happen here." She started to explain. "I can't shake the feeling that we're all in danger."
The two of them looked each other in the eyes. Megan slowly leaned in towards Andrew while Andrew leaned in towards her.
"Don't worry," he said softly as he was leaning towards her. "I won't let anything happen to you." The two were so close, an inch further and they would have made contact. Megan blushed, this was the moment she had been looking forward to for a long time.
"Hey you guys!" a voice broke the silence. Andrew pulled his face away from Megan. Megan stayed in her exact position, still waiting for the interruption to end and for her kiss to begin.
"Yes, what?" Andrew asked nervously. The interruption had come from Billie who had loudly opened the door. He has a smile on is face.
"What's going on in here?" he asked laughing. The red on Megan's face grew. Andrew got up off the bed, Megan knew the moment was over.
"Nothing," Andrew answered. He walked past Billie and started to walk out into the hallway. "What do you want?"
"Tre and I looked all over down stairs and we can't find him," Billie answered.
"Alright well I'll help you." Andrew said. He looked back over to Megan.
"I'm gonna just stay here, try to sleep," she said. Megan folded her arms on her chest at an attempt to ease the embarrassment.
"Okay, we'll just be done stairs around and about," Billie said. Both he and Andrew left the room. Megan remained alone in the room.
Billie and Andrew made their way down the stair case leading to the first floor of the house. "He's got to be around here," Billie said. "We would have seen him go up the stairs."
"Yeah you got a point there," Andrew said.
Billie and Andrew split up in order to cover more area. They searched every room on the main floor including the hallway Mike had been talking to Billie about earlier. Before long the two met up in the kitchen.
"He'll give up sooner or later on his little joke and join us upstairs," Billie said. He pulled open one of the cupboards and took out a glass. He walked over to the sink and filled the glass. "So what were you and Megan doing in there?"
"Nothing," Andrew answered blushing. He plopped down in a chair near the corner of the room. "Nothing at all."
"I'm sure. I wasn't born yesterday you know," Billie said. He took a sip of his drink before setting it down on the counter. "I could tell you liked her."
"What are you talking about?"
"Well the way you protected her on the bus, back when Tre attacked her," Billie explained.
"I was being nice."
"You were being protective."
Andrew shrugged his shoulders and turned his head. He didn't want to continue this conversation with someone he didn't even know that well. Billie finished his drink, set the glass in the sink, and then walked out of the kitchen. Andrew got up from his chair and followed.
"We might as well just try and get some sleep," Billie concluded. "He'll come back soon enough."
The two walked back up the stairs together. Once they reached the second floor Billie went off into his own room as Andrew went to check in on Megan. When he reached her room the door was shut.
"She's asleep," Kelley said from behind him. Andrew spun around.
"Is she upset?" Andrew asked.
"She's fine. She just needs sleep. Too much excitement," Kelley said with a wink. She walked into the room and closed the door behind her. Andrew gave out a sigh and returned to his own room. When he opened his door he saw both Holly and Adam had gone.
"They must be out looking for Mike," Andrew said to himself. "Oh well." He laid down on the bed, resting his head on the pillow. He tried to forget the move he made on Megan and Billie interrupting it. Soon he was fast asleep.
