Best. Year. EVER!, chapter 2
"You know when our cousin Elise came to visit for the summer, she would not stop talking about how small the roads were, how many fields there were and how flat and rural it was. She's from New Jersey." I told Nicole as my dad was driving us to our first day of school together. It had actually started a few weeks ago.
"Uh...yeah. It is sort of flat, and field ridden and...yeah...."
"Meh," I mumbled.
We drove for a bit more, "So I bet you're nervous aren't you, Nicole?" my dad said.
"Um...yeah. I'm only going to an entirely different school in a different state with different people and Im having a feud with my family...."
"Yeah...oi," I said, "Well I assure you that my school is cool and my friends will love you."
Nicole just gave me a look.
"Okay. So who's your homeroom?"
"Waters."
"Me too but I have to go down to Orchestra. Want me to take you to Ms. Waters room?"
"Um...sure."
I walked with Nicole to Ms. Waters room. Some people looked at us for a bit noticing Nicole was new. "Hey. Ms Waters?"
"Oh. Hello, Morgan. And this would be your friend Nicole?" short, pudgy Ms. Waters said.
"Yeah. She's new this year and I have to go down to Orchestra but if you can help her out a bit."
"No problem."
"Okay. Good luck Nicole."
She had a scared look on her face as I rushed down the stairs before the warning bell.
"So is Nicole here?" Zoe asked me as I was tuning my violin.
"Yeah. She's up in Ms. Waters' room for homeroom."
"Oh yeah. That's so cool. I wonder if she has any classes with us."
"Uh...I don't know." I said halting while rosining up my bow before Mrs. Mathers had us start.
Okay. It seems I might be having little notes from myself within this story. It gets very interesting so don't die on me now. But, my English teacher Mr. Lantz has been getting on me about descriptions and all so you might want me to let you know what my friends so far look like or something. And he hates it when I start sentences with conjunctions. (Take that, Mr. Lantz!)
Okay, well...Zoe is rather tall and skinny, has medium length, really pretty, light brown hair and brown eyes. Other friends I'll be including...Emily S: very curly, bushy, blonde hair, blue eyes Not quite as tall as me. Emily W: crazily, curly, brown hair and brown eyes and rather short but very spunky. Alisa: naturally wavy but she straightens her long brown hair, and pretty cool brown, hazelly eyes. Nancy: straight, grayish/brown hair. You know the color I'm talking about, right? Well you better. And, thin-rimmed silver glasses she hardly ever wears.
The rest...maybe I'll describe them in the story...'til then...the story.
"Nicole! How was it?"
"It was okay."
"Great! What class do you have next?"
"Science."
"Hmm. So do I. Now that I think of it, I think you have everything besides Orchestra with me."
"Yeah...who's the science teacher?"
"Mr. Lock. You can go put your books up and meet me by my locker. Second from the very beginning."
"Wow...lockers," she said in awe, looking around like they were the most amazing thing ever. I laughed at her.
We walked into Mr. Lock's room and I helped Nicole find her seat and then sat down myself. Something seemed different. Wait. I haven't seen Mr. Lock at all today. I think there was a sub. I thought I heard someone say he was real cool. Who could it be?
I looked up at the board. The name said Mr. Cool. Yeah right. There was a man near the back of the room looking at something on a table. He was an odd dresser. Checkered shoes, red pants and a sort of checkered/diamond shirt...wait. I've seen that shirt before. But where? And that back looked familiar. Too familiar. Then he turned around.
"HOLY...TRE COOL!!" I screamed. Of course! It was the shirt he wore in that one part of Bullet In A Bible!
Nicole looked at me and then at who I was looking at. She gasped and her face went a bit red. Tre had his eyes real big and gasped, "Holy shit a student! I mean...of course." he straightened out the folder he had in his hand, smoothed his hair, straightened his tie and strode to the front of the room to lean casually on the board, "Students." he said smoothly.
Then there was a screech from the doorway and someone dropped their books all over the floor. It was Emily W and she looked like she had seen a ghost, "Buh buh buh...cuh cuh cuh..Tr-Tr-" came the noises from her mouth.
I looked from her to Tre raising his eyebrow at her...cooly mind you. Then I stood up. "Wait...I'm not dreaming, am I? Holy shit....Tre Cool?? Tre Cool is standing in front of the room? Tre Cool is teaching our class?! TRE COOL?!"
He stopped leaning on the wall now, "Hello. I am Tre Cool. That is I. I am standing in front of the room and I am going to be teaching this class."
The bell rang for class to start and everyone else in the room was still staring from Emily and her mess as they walked in, to me standing and swearing nonstop, to Nicole just sitting there with her mouth wide open, to Tre standing in front of the class sniffing a marker.
Tre then put his marker down while I sat down slowly. This has to be a dream right? Tre Cool just doesn't suddenly show up teaching your classes, "Girls, please calm down and sit down. And any more swearing Miss May and you will be sent to the principal's."
I gaped at him, Emily was still standing there making incoherent rumblings...then she just ran out of the room screaming. She can be a bit over-reactive but what would you do if Tre Cool was in your science class? What now? "Oh who the fuck am I kidding." he said throwing another marker in the air. "Oh, shit! Students! Uh...hi." He waved to the kids sitting there now gaping at this weird, teacher that seemed to not mind cursing. They were almost as shocked as I was.
Emily D slowly raised her hand. "Yes?" Tre said, twirling markers like he would his drumsticks now.
"W-Where's Mr. Lock?"
"Good question." he put his markers down yet again, went and picked up Emily's things from the floor, and put them in the trash. Then, he walked back to the front of the room and smiled.
We all sat there for a bit, then Nicole started crying. Tre looked at her, "What's her name?" he asked Cale. He shook his head no, still a look of freaked-ness on his face.
"N-Nicole. She's new," I found myself saying.
"Oh yeah. You're one of the winners." he said to the back of her head. He poked her and she looked up, "What's wrong?"
Her eyes got big again and she wailed, "NO!!!" and then put her head back down on the desk sobbing.
Tre looked at me. I walked over to Nicole, "Nicole? It's okay. What's wrong?"
Her muffled voice said, "I've gone mad!"
I shook my head, "No, you haven't it's just another one of my weird...wait..." I gasped and turned around poking Tre hard in the stomach, "I KNOW WHAT THIS IS! WE WON!!"
Nicole looked up slowly, her eyes red. "Wh-what? Won what?"
"Oh remember that stupid thing where they asked for our schools or whatever and how they'd substitute a day or whatever? We didn't think we'd win but we did!"remember this is fiction people, had to think of something
Her eyes got big, remembering and she laughed, "OH MY GOD!"
Tre smiled and patted us both on the head and laughed as he went back to the front of the room. I just sat back down by Nicole. I wasn't dreaming...we had won some stupid contest!
"Okay, am I missing something here? Who the hell are you?" Christian said.
"Yeah...." Shiyanna added and the whole class mumbled in confusion.
Tre coughed, "I am Tre Cool."
Half the class snorted. Some slightly smarter people started putting two and two together. "Wait...Tre Cool? The drummer for Green Day?" Christian asked.
He looked over at me. In fact...the whole class did. I suppose my Green Day obsession is well known. I smiled. "Why yes. Yes, he is."
"So...why the hell are you here?" Sydny said.
"I am the hell here because they won the fucking contest, okay?"
"Wait...you're kidding me, right?" Wesley asked again, "You expect me to believe that you're the drummer of Green Day?"
"Yeah. Because I am. Now, enough about me. Let's do some science!" he rubbed his hands together.
I raised my hand, "Are you sure I'm not dreaming?"
"Yes...Now let's get cracking." Tre walked over to me and leaned on my desk. He looked at my bracelet, looked back up, looked back down, then said, "Yoink." and walked off to the back of the room with it.
"Hey! That's mine!"
"Yes, and hey! That's me on it!" He said pointing at it.
"Um...yes."
"So I have a right to take it."
"Um...okay?"
He smiled, "Excellent." and put it on his wrist, "Billie never let me get one because he thought it was weird."
"Well so do I."
He sighed and went over to one of the lab tables, "Okay everyone look back here." he waved his hand...with my bracelet on. "We're going to be doing a lab."
"Yay," some of the kids said.
"Lovely," I mumbled. Nicole was still sitting there silent and puffy eyed.
"We'll be finding the density of Morgan's head."
"HEY!"
"Yes. Sorry. That would break the scales."
Everyone laughed but me.
"No. Just kidding. We're just doing some boring liquids." Everyone sighed. "Aw, cheer up, mates. It's just some water, vegetable oil and vinegar. Now everybody pair up and come to a scale."
The class did so, slowly. I dragged Nicole up and she just kept staring at Tre. "Nicole? Nicole? Hello?" I waved my hand in her face.
"Wh-What? Where am I?"
"Science class with Tre Cool."
"WHERE?" she shouted looking around.
"Right there." Tre was helping some girls measure the right amount of vegetable oil. "Are you okay, Nicole?"
She nodded slowly. "I think I'll adjust."
I pouted, "He stole my bracelet."
We went through with our lab. Measuring liquids density. How exciting. Tre was looking through some cabinets at all the chemicals and junk Mr. Lock had. Michael sort of had a panic when he was messing with one near the vinegar. "No! NO! You'll kill us all!"
Tre turned to him as he was tilting it over the vinegar, "What?"
Too late. Whatever it was poured into the vinegar and it started to foam. "RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!" Michael screamed running for the door. Everyone looked up in confusion and screamed as the foam got bigger and bigger.
Tre pushed his way outside the door and closed it so we were trapped inside. We banged on the door as the blob behind us started making hissing noises. He finally opened it and let us out and the whole place exploded just as he was closing the door. Some foam fell from the window of the door and we looked inside at the damage. Everything was covered in the foam.
"Good going Tre," I said.
"My books!" some girls screamed.
"Awesome!" other boys laughed.
"Oops," Tre said as he opened the door back up. "Someone go get a janitor," he said running his hand through his hair. "Aw shit."
"Eww..." I said picking up my soaked paper.
"Well uh...no homework then. We'll have to work on it tomorrow," Tre said as the bell rang and the janitor came in laughing.
