Welcome to Paradise, chapter 2
I sat in the bank waiting room with the children all asleep, and looked at the women in her cheap, black shoes and shiny, red lipstick, smiling and giving leaflets out on how to get free internet if you pay an extra £30 a month on tax, or something how daft is that it's cheaper without the deal.
Oh well, it's not my concern I thought, and then she turned my way and walked towards me.
"Halo ma'am, can I help you?" I told her; I wanted to put some money in a bank account, but I would have to open one today as I had never opened one previously
"Oh, that is not possible, I am afraid it will take a week at least." She carried on blabbering, but I just ignored her and decided to leave
"Never mind," I said and got up to leave, nudging Abby and Jacob gently; they opened their eyes slowly, and I could see the women stare at me in concern. I knew she meant well, but it still made me angry.
I finally managed to get out in the open, and I sat Abby on top of the pram, and I told Jacob to hold on to the side. I pushed my way past happy teenagers giggling with boys and punks smoking in the corner of a chip shop. I finally found a phone box and called a taxi to take us to the Leeds Bradford airport.
Once there, I got everyone in and walked up to the desk.
"Excuse me, but are there any planes leaving for California today?"
"Actually, there is one leaving in about 4 hours, but it will be very expensive to pay at last minute."
"How much?"
"Well, for the babies it will be free, but it will be £600 for you."
"How about luxury?"
"Well, ma'am that is very expensive." She looked at me as though I was scum.
"Look, lady, just tell me!"
"Ok, again it is free for the babies, but for you it will be £975."
"Ok, that's fine, I will pay by cash."
She looked confused but nodded and took the money from me and booked the tickets
"Ok, here are your tickets, go to left and you will see some steps, go up the steps and on the right past McDonalds you will see some more steps, then on your right is a small café, it is just there."
"Thanks," I said.
