Who's that girl?, chapter 4
Next Day
"Mom! Mom!! Are you even listening to me?!" yelled Jess.
Not again she thought. [/i] This always happens when she gets the day off, she gets drunk. It always happens.[/i]
"What hunny?! What did you say? Oh come here and give your mother
a kiss, I love you hunny." Then Regina looked up into her daughters eyes and whispered, "You have it all, you are the only thing stable in my life..."
After she said that she fell against Jessica and started to whimper.
This is pathetic thought Jess, looking down at her poor, helpless mother.
"Mom, lets get you to bed okay."
Regina didn't say a word as her daughter lifted her up and carried her to her bed.
After Jess had laid her mother down she just couldn't stop looking at the poor creature she had became.
What happend to you mom? You were so healthy...
She couldn't understand what happend to her. How could this strong woman become so weak. So weak that her 16 year old daughter had to help her
to bed. It was sad.
After laying her mother to bed Jess went in her room and laid down on her bed to think.
What does she mean I'm the only stable thing in her life? Look at me, I'm not stable! I'm anything BUT stable!
Looking at her room, everything in it, she hated it at that moment. She couldn't be in her room anymore. It sickened her. So she walked out the door and went to her favorite place to think, her roof.
Jess climbed onto her roof and laid down on her back.
"Ah finally, relaxation," Jess said out loud.
Not long after she had said that she saw police lights flashing in the distance.
Jess stood on top of her roof to look at the lights that were drawing nearer.
"What the hell..."
Soon the police car drove into Jessica's drive way and an officer got out.
"Excuse me mam'n but we got a call about a disturbance in this house...mind if we go inside?"
Right before Jess could say anything her mother ran out there like a crazy person.
"That's her officer! My daughter is going crazy! She slapped me and tried to lock me in my own room! Please take her away!"
Jessica looked at her mother in complete shock.
"Mom what the hell are you talking about!?"
"Please officer take her away! She's going to kill me!"
"Mother shut your trap! I didn't do anything to you except take your dunken ass to bed!"
"Shes lying officers! I tell you she's lying!"
The officer looked at the two women and then went over to Jess. He looked down at her small figure and asked silently, "Young lady, is your mother really drunk?"
Jess gave the officer, who's name was Mark, a scaristic look and said, "What do you think?"
"Okay, I'm not going to let you stay here with your mother in this condition. I'm gonna take you downtown to the police station, after you grab some clothes and we'll keep you there for the night. Now I'm only doing this because I know you dont have any family here in town." He paused and looked at Jess's mother. "It's a shame what happend to her, I wish I could help you Jess but all I can do is take you in tonight so that she thinks I'm actually taking you to 'jail'. Is that okay with you?"
Jess looked over at her mother who was talking to the other officer. She shook her head and nodded at Mark.
Mark gave her a smile and lead her to the police car to get in the back.
"Wow not like I haven't been in the back of one of these before," Jess said while getting in.
Mark smiled and went over to Jess's mother to explain that Jess was being taken over night.
Regina, still drunk out of her mind, hugged Mark and said, "Thank you! I thought she would have killed me! Thank the Lord!"
Mark pulled away and said, "You're welcome mam'n, now get back inside."
Both Mark and the other officer climbed in the car and drove away from the hell hole that Jess lived in.
After a while of slience Mark looked in his review mirrow and saw Jess looking out the window with a distant look.
"You 'okay' Jessica?"
Jess smiled a faint unhappy smile and said, "No, but I guess I should be use to it by now. Usually Clay comes with you, why isn't he here?"
Background check
Clay is a friend of Jess's family. He's also a police officer. And when Jessica's mother gets like this Clay usually comes down and takes her in.
"Oh he had the night off."
Jess smiled and looked at the rainy night sky.
When they finally got downtown to the police station Mark went and got Jess a blanket to wear because she had forgotten to get more clothes and her ones she was wearing got wet from the rain.
Jess snuggled in the blanket as she laid down on a cot in a jail cell. She no longer felt alone when she laid on that cot. The first time she stayed at the police station she was so scared and alone. But soon because of Clay she had made friends and they all cared about her.
As she layed there Mark came by and said, "Hey Jess, Jodiee called for you earler, I guess she's one of your old friends. But I told her you were tired and needed rest. So forget school tomorrow. But she sends her love and that you must call her back."
Jess turned to look at Mark and smiled. "Yep she's an old friend. Hey, I don't have to go to school tomorrow?!"
Mark smiled and said, "How can you, all your stuff is at your house. And I don't know about you but I don't want to go back there tonight."
Jessica laughed again and nodded.
"Well kid get some sleep okay. Night."
"Night Mark, thank you."
Mark smiled and walked back to his desk. "Poor girl," He said to himself.
Jessica turned to lay on her back again and stared up at the ceiling.
This can't be all of life, surely there must be something more to this. There must be someone out there who will take care of me, and who will love me...
"Mom! Mom!! Are you even listening to me?!" yelled Jess.
