The Poetry Teacher, chapter 8

Billie and I sat quietly on the couch, easily not knowing what to do next. I felt really embarrased about my mom, her making a seriously bad impression on Billie. Billie was just silent, he had no idea what to say or do.

Suddenly I said, "I'm so sorry about my mom, Billie. I wanted her to know, but not in this way."

Billie replied, "It's 'kay, parents always turn out to be complete snobs, sorry I called your mom a snob."

I replied with a smile, "It's okay sweety, you're right though. You know I love you, right?"

He nodded and said, "I know you do, that is why I want to spend the rest of my life with you."

I stared into his bright green eyes and said, "Really?"

He replied with a spark in his eyes, "Really, I got something for you, hope you like it." There, he digged into his pocket for a small burgandy casquet.

I opened my eyes widely at the sight of it and said shakingly, "You're not going to propose are you?"

He rolled his eyes with a smile and said, "Oh Sandy, you can be so predictable sometimes."

I smiled widely, with some small tears coming out of my eyes. I never thought this could actually happen to me at 16. He opened the casquet carefully and took out the precious ring.

He started to say the right words, "Sandy, you've always been there for me no matter what. Whenever we started to have some problems, you never stopped loving me. You gave me great memories to remember whenever I feel like I had nothing to offer. You give me a great purpose for life, and there are a million more reasons that I know why I should be with you through thick and thin. I love Sandy, with all my heart and all I've got to offer. Would you marry me sweetyplums?"

My eyes watered just as I imagined they would, I've never felt so happy in my life. I replied, "Yes sweetyplums, I'll marry you." He smiled widely and kissed me really passionately. I kissed him back with all I had and he lifted me up from the couch and twirled me around. We were going to get married!

He said, "Sandy, since we can't make it official right away, I want you to keep this ring with you, and don't lose it."

I nodded my head and said, "I would never lose it, when do you think we could get married?"

He replied, "When you turn 18, which won't take long, so we are gonna be fiancees for at least two more years."

I nodded my head and said, "That sounds perfect, so that means I can't wear my ring right now?"

He grinned and said, "You can only wear it in the house." I made a frown and he gave me a peck, apologizing. I gave him a "no hard feelings" look and we headed to Billie's room. We laid down on the comfy bed and slept silently. Once I opened my eyes, it was dark out, so I closed my eyes once again. Billie had his arms around me, not letting me go even once. I didn't mind, because I felt comfortable and safe. I was so happy and really excited to turn 18, just cuz I was going to be a married adult and I was going to spend the rest of my life with my sweetyplums.
