J.A.R., chapter 9
After sitting Mike down and questioning his 'odd' behavior Jason was able to make sense of the situation. He thought it was best to keep Mike with him that night and he would take him to school tomorrow.
Jason got up from the living room, shoulders slumped, and snached the phone that was rested on the cradle. Dialing the memorised numbers, Jason brought the ringing device to his ear. "Hello, Rod's Hickory Pit, watcha need friend?"
Jason laughed a bit, "Yes, do you know if you could get Ollie on the phone? Tell her it's Jason."
The phone staticed for a bit as a muffled call echoed through Jason's side of the phone, "Hello?"
Smiling he answered, "Hey Ollie, it's Jason."
There was a silence, "Shouldn't you be in school?" Jason sighed and explained the dilema at hand.
Ollie didn't like the idea of Mike staying with Jason, "I think he should be home, I don't know what's going on but just skipping around to different houses ain't gonna help him." Jason inhaled, "Trust me on this, I just need to figure out what's going on in his head." It was obvious that Ollie wasn't too happy about the situation that rolled out in front of her but she eventually caved in, on one condition, Mike was coming home tomorrow.
Jason eventually got off the phone and went into the living room where he found Mike and Rocky, Jason's lab, playing on the floor. It made Jason really happy seeing Mike smiling. "Hey buddy, what do you want for dinner?" Mike looked up only to se that Jason was coming down so that he could sit beside him. A simple shrug was all that was given.
"What's really going on? Honest truth, I just need to know."
Mike looked up, still gripping the chew toy that him and Rocky were fighting over, "I... I... I wasn't lying when I asked for help."
Mike turned his attention back on Rocky so he wouldn't end up staring at Jason, "You mean the part where you wanted to ah, find ah, your real parents?"
Mike nodded, still avoiding eye contact. Jason snapped Mike out of his trance and made him look at him, "I'm sorry that I did what I did to you that night, I didn't know what to say, I was shocked. I'll help you but I don't want things to change. If you do end up finding them I don't want you to move or have everything different.... I want it all to stay." Mike had no idea what to possibly say, Jason was just spilling all his deep thoughts and reflections and he had no clue how to make Jason feel better.
After much hesitation, Mike leaned forward and embraced Jason, Jason in turn wrapped his arms around Mike and they hugged for about thirty seconds. After all the "mushy" stuff was over Jason got up and went to go order pizza.
About an hour later you could find Mike and Jason sat in the kitchen, talking about music and eating pizza. Looking up, Mike realised it was these little moments that brought them both together. Through thick and thin Jason would be there, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
