The Out Girl, chapter 2

Don't you hate it when you wake up and you realize something big is going to happen that day? Or you forget that that something is going to happen in twenty minutes and you have no time to get ready? Yeah, that's how I felt when I got up twenty minutes before Joey was supposed to show up that morning to show me around. Hilda had left early to go to church, like she always does.

I bolted out of bed and into the bathroom to get in the shower. Speeding through my morning business and getting my hair dried and stuff, I remembered that I still didn't know what to wear for today. I ran into my bedroom to see that the sun was shining and there were no clouds in view. Smiling to myself, I pulled out a pair of shorts, a tank top, and some flip flops. By the time I was done, it was a minute before Joey was supposed to come. I watched the clock closely, but time seemed to slow down and want to kill me.

Suddenly, I heard the doorbell ring. I checked the mirror for anything wrong with my outfit or my hair and went downstairs in a hurry. Slowing down to an even walk, I opened the door and smiled at him. Today he was dressed in boarder shorts, a white All American Rejects t-shirt, and flip flops. His chocolate brown eyes shown brightly in the morning sun and his hair seemed a little wilder than yesterday.

"Morning," he said as I grabbed my house keys.

"Morning," I replied, shutting the door behind me as I followed him out of the house. "So...where's the first stop?"

"My house," he said, pointing across the street. "My little brother wanted to come with us so he could meet his friends at the beach." I smiled and nodded as we crossed the street towards his big white house. He opened the door for me and I stepped inside, immediately feeling at home in the big, homey place.

"Wow, this is really nice," I said, looking at the pictures on the wall. One really caught my eye. It was of a little boy with big brown eyes and messy hair in his eyes standing next to a man with black messy hair, bright green eyes rimmed with eyeliner, and dressed all in black. "Is that one of your brother's?"

"I'm glad you think I'm that young," a voice rang out behind me. I turned and saw the man from the picture. He had a few little laugh lines near his emerald eyes, but other than that, he seemed the same from the picture.

"Jessie, this is my dad, Billie Joe," Joey said, gesturing to the man in front of me.

"Are you familiar with a punk band called Green Day," Billie Joe asked me.

"I've heard OF them, but I've never seen pictures or seen them on TV," I said. "I don't watch much TV these days."

"Oh, well, I'm Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day," he said, smiling. "Yeah, I'm a little older than I used to be, but hey, that's what happens, you know?" I nodded, taking in this information.

"Okay," I said, smiling. "I can deal with that."

"Cool, so Joey, where are you taking this lovely girlfriend of yours," Billie Joe asked, looking at Joey.

"We're not together," I said at the same that Joey said, "She's not my girlfriend." Billie Joe smiled slyly and shook his head.

"Joey's going to be showing me around," I said. "I just moved here and I don't know where anything is, so..."

"Billie-boy, we're here," I heard another voice say from the doorway. A man with a blondish-brown faux hawk, blue eyes, and a wide grin came into my view with four other people. "Oh hey, I didn't know you had company already. I would have brought my-"

"Don't," Joey said, glaring at the man.

"Ah, well, I'm Tre'," the man said, holding out his hand. "And you are-"

"Jessie," I said, smiling at him as I shook his hand. "I just moved here...just across the street."

"Cool," Tre' said, nodding. "Tre' Cool." I laughed and looked at the other four people in the room. "Oh, Jessie, this is my daughter, Ramona, and my son Frankito. And that lanky man there is Mike Dirnt and his daughter, Estelle."

"Hi," I said, shaking Mike's hand.

"So are you and Joey going out," Mike asked.

"No, he's just showing me around town," I said, shaking my head.

"What high school are you going to go to," Billie Joe asked.

"John Swett," I said, rolling my eyes. "Who would want to go to a place with the word sweat in it?"

"I used to go there," Billie Joe said. "In fact, Mike and I went there."

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you or anything," I said quickly, blushing madly.

"Don't worry," Billie Joe laughed. "We hated it there. I never paid attention in class. I was usually stoned in the courtyard anyways, so you can say anything you want about it."

"Okay, but I'm still sorry," I said. He nodded and then it became silent before we heard footsteps coming down the staircase.

"JOEY, LET'S GO ALREADY," a boy who looked slightly younger than Joey yelled, coming down the stairs. He stopped when he saw me and his jaw went slack. I smiled and stepped forward to shake his hand.

"I'm Jessie," I said. "I'm your new neighbor. You must be Jakob. Joey told me about you yesterday."

"What did you say," Jakob said, glaring at Joey.

"Nothing bad," I said quickly, giggling. "He just told me that you were his little brother and that he loved you." Jakob blushed and I laughed. "Joey, are we ready to go then?"

"Yeah," Joey said, holding out his arm. I linked arms with him and we started to walk before Estelle called us back.

"Hey, can we come too," Estelle asked. "We're bored."

"Sure," Joey muttered, rolling his eyes. I looked back and I don't know if it was my imagination, or if it was reality, but I thought I saw the two girls smirking evilly...
