Dawn to Dusk: A New Beginning, chapter 1
The requochet of a bullet bounced back straight towards Gerard's face, just missing him by an eighth of an inch. He knelt down on his knee, then quickly got up and ran, trying to escape being chased by a dangerous man with a gun. Another bullet fired, again, just missing him. His face was drenched in a cold sweat that continuously poured down his face. He finally lost sight of the tall thin man who was chasing him and stopped behind a large brick fireplace coming out of the rooftop. He stood there, breathing in and out, in and out, eyes closed tightly, shut, clenched, no light able to enter. There was silence. Gerard breathed a heavy sigh and wiped his face free from sweat and dirt. He escaped. Then, when all was quiet, there was the pitter patter of foot-steps against the concrete.
"Huh, they never seem to learn,"Gerard said to himself, rolling his eyes.
The lanky man with bleached hair ontop and black hair on the bottom turned the corner where Gerard had stood. Nothing. There was no one. No one at all there. He man looked around, left, right, left, right. His gun was firmly in his hand, all aimed and still ready to fire. The man looked up. Still nothing. He turned around. There, in the darkness, the man saw the light of a flame ignite, then flicker out.
"Why don't you guys ever seem to learn?! Oh, wait. Ahh...now I see,"the figure started,"They.....never did tell you, did they?"
"Who....who are you!"the man said, panicky with his gun ready to shoot.
The cigarette went to his lips,"Hehe, they didn't. Goddamn, the world today. They never told you what I am or why we're here."
"You, come out so I can see you!"the man stammered.
Out of the black came Gerard, fag in his mouth. He put his hands up."I wish I could give up, you know. I really wish. Hehe, but you know I can't. Not without a fight."
Gerard kicked the gun out of the man's grasp and pushed him near the side of the building. He took out his knife that hid in his back pocket and brought it to his neck.
"Please! Please don't kill me! Please!"The man begged. "Please, I want to live, not die!"He put his hands in the air."I'll do anything! Just tell me what I can do, you name it, just don't kill me, please!"
"Hehe, if they told you I, you'd never have taken the job. It's not my fault."
"Please! Don't kill me!"the man was crying, salty seas flowing down his cheeks.
"I'm sorry, you won't be happy with my decision, but you'll have neither."With that, Gerard bit the neck of the man, draining the blood from his veins. When he was finished, he dropped the man down and slid the knife back into his pocket.
He strode back to his abode before the luminous sun was to shine. He was walking down an empty sidewalk just along 54th Street when he heard the noise of someone behind him. After sighing another heavy sigh, he turned around. There, he saw a slender, dark haired girl looking at him.
"Now I have to fight a chick!? God, what is the world coming to today!?"Gerard rolls his eyes.
"Are you Gerard......"She looked at the palm of her hand where there was writing,"...........Way?"
"I'm guessing you work for CIV."
"No, actually,"She pulled a gun from a holder attached to her belt."I work for no one."She aimed straight at Gerard, both hands holding it tight, gripping the trigger.
"Wo, wo, wo! Hold up. Here, let's just put the gun down, okay?"Gerard coaxed.
"Take one step, and your brain is on the floor,"the woman said in a sarcastic happy voice and smile.
"Okay, okay. Well, if you look closely, you'll see that you left the safety on."he said, arms raised, with his chin looking semi towards the sky.
The girl looked at the gun, and then began, "The safety isn't on, dumbass!"She looked up from the gun and noticed Gerard had escaped her clutches."Damn it!!!"
At home, Gerard sat on the couch, asleep. . .
