Dawn to Dusk: A New Beginning, chapter 2
There was silence throughout the empty, dark house. The television set was giving off a luminous glow, not too bright. The sound was turned down low so Gerard could get some sleep. The only sound you could possibly hear was that of a mouse scurrying across the floor or that of neighbors fighting amongst themselves in the next house over.
Just then, there was a boom at the door. A knock so terrifyingly loud that it made Gerard jump of the couch and land on the floor. It was pure shock.
Gerard got up, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes and walked towards the door. He yawned, his eyes squinted, and put his hand to his mouth, then stretched. He went for the doorknob and opened it.
"Yeah,"He said, opening the door, still half asleep.
There was no one there. Just perhaps maybe the breeze that was standing in the doorway with him that was possibly keeping him company. Other than that, he was alone, standing there, door open. He slammed the door shut and walked to the kitchen to get something to eat. He opened the refridgerator and peered inside.
A window was left open, in came fresh air, whoosing in at a constant speed.
Gerard was still trying to find something to eat inside the fridge, but found nothing. He slammed it shut.
"Nothing to eat! UGH! In this fucking house, nothing! Goddamnit!"He picked up an apple that sat on the counter, took a bite out of it, then threw it across the room. Gerard then walked back into the other room where he was before he was awaken.
The apple rolled across the floor, slowly, a ways when it was stopped by a foot. The foot's owner leaned down and picked up the fruit and got back up. They, or, she, bit into it. There was an intruder in the house and Gerard had no idea as he lay on the couch in the other room. The person walked to the doorway that separated the lounge to the hall and stay there, leaning against it.
Gerard sit, flicking the channel every other second."Damn it!! There's nothing on T.V.!! What the hell am I supposed to do, I can't go outside!! UGH! Damn it!"
"Yeah, there's nothing ever on T.V., I agree,"the intruider repied to Gerard.
"I know, there's nothing ever on!!! It sucks!.......Wait, what?"Gerard had a confused look on his face and looked to the doorway and saw the same girl he saw last night standing there.
"Wo, what the fuck are you doing here?!"He exclaimed.
"Relax, I'm unarmed. God, men. Can't figure them out."She started."Sure you don't want this apple, it's really good."
"That's alright, I'm fine. That's not the point! Why are you in my house?!"
"Oh yeah, thanks. Oh, you look well too. What a lovely house."She took another bite into the apple, juice running down her face.
Gerard stood up, shocked at how someone could manage to enter his house."I want you to get out right now. Go, scram."
"You really think I'm just going to leave once you've treated me like a dog? Well, woof, woof."
"I'll call the police. Get out now."He turned and reached towards the phone.
"They'll just send CVI."
The phone now in his hand, he put it back on the hook.
"The name's Jara."She extended her hand.
Gerard just brushed her off and sat back down on the couch. He combed his fingers through his hair.
"Nice to meet you Jara. My name is Gerard, now let's get down and dirty."Jara said sarcastically shaking her hand in the air.
"You are one creepy girl. I can guess you're single."He said to her.
"That's alright, I don't mind. Most men are like you so it makes it hard to be with someone."
"Why are you here? Why did you point a gun at me last night? Why are you eating my apple?"Gerard asked.
"Oh, the apple's delicious. It's a Granny Smith. Hmmmm...I always have loved Granny Smith apples. My favorite. I mean the flavor and......"She was cut off.
"Okay! Okay! Answer my other questions! God!"
"I told you. I don't work for CVI. I could never work for a company who kills the half living. I work alone. I'm here because last night you got away. Last night I was looking for you cause I wanted to talk, like we are now."
"About what?"he questioned.
"CVI."
