Dawn to Dusk: A New Beginning, chapter 6
Jara took a deep breath, It's okay, she told herself. "Yeah, well,"She rubbed up and down her neck,"how much did you see or hear of.....that?"
"Most of it."
"I see,"she replied, her face looking down to her feet.
"Yeah, well, I'm curious too. What was all that about? The thing between you and, ahh....the one person."
She looked down and a tear slid down her cheek. She sniffled then started,"I told you, remember, that I had a boyfriend, right?"
He was silent.
"Well,"she sniffled again,"He was my boyfriend, until, well..."she broke into a river overflowing with tears."He..."she stopped.
"What? He what?" He shifted in his seat, anxious for what Jara had to say.
"I know I just met you and I've intruded your space time and time again in the past days, but I feel I can trust you. He, well, hurt me badly while he was drunk." She bowed her head in shame.
Gerard quickly got up and went over and sat on the couch with Jara. He hugged her trying to comfort her. He tried not to cry, but he couldn't help it.
"How long were you together?"Gerard asked, his voice shakey.
"Me and Frank were together for 2 years. We were perfect for each other. We had the right chemistry. I loved the frosting on Oreos and Frank loved the cookie part. We were meant to be. I really thought it would last. Then, when he did that to me, I lost all the trust and respect I once had for him. He blew it. He even engaged to me and I threw the ring back to him and left."Just talking about it made her break into a waterfall of tears.
Gerard didn't know what to say to make Jara feel any better. He didn't want to screw it up and make her feel any worse, so he just avoided saying anything at all.
"The thing I don't get is why he'd do such a thing. He never drank, not unless he was ashamed or had something to hide. Like the time I found him with drugs in his jacket. He said over and over, 'I love you', but I guess he never meant it. You don't do something like that to someone you love. It's-it's just not fair." Her face was all red now."I really loved him too!"
"I'm so sorry, I really really am,"Gerard said, still holding Jara in his arms.
She looked up at him and he looked down at her. They stared into one another's eyes. She closed her eyes and Gerard planted his hand behind her head and brought her face closer. They closed lips and kissed.
